Nuvigil And Qysmia Together
UpdatedI am taking Nuvigil (250) and Qysmia (75) and have been for about a year off and on. Today our pharmacist questioned my husband about it when he picked up our medicines. Is there a problem? I have fibromyalgia, depression, disc issues, degenerative arthritis in back, shoulders, hands, wrists, knees - have had surgery in each of those places except back. Almost lost leg to infection (from pedicure), gout, diabetes since childbirth of tins at 40, HBP, hyperlipidemia, thyroid issues, hyperparathyroid disorder, kidney disease, sinus problems & surgery, sleep apnea, and am totally disabled. I lost 95 lbs. and am controlling diabetes much better all normal A1C's w/ one 500 mg Metformin a day, lipids best in years, etc. However, the fiber stills keeps me exhausted and among other issues in total chronic pain. I take two to four Hydrocodone a day 10/325's and have for over ten years never increasing dose other than once going from 5/325's to 10/325's. Had inj's. in neck and spine, knees, thumb joints, etc. but primarily the meds. I cannot stomach anti-inflammatories and kidney issues prevent many meds to help the pain. But I am concerned about the two meds the pharmacist asked about - said they were both stimulants. I did not realize they were. The Qysmia helps with weight loss and the Nuvigil gives me energy - I have noticed I have facial muscle jerks, etc. and other involuntary muscle jerks but I also have other neurological issues linked with auto-immune problems, so I never associated them with the meds.

Hello, Flash! How are you? I'm very sorry about all the medical issues you've experienced.
Qsymia contains Topiramate and Phentermine, the latter of which is a stimulant class medication. As to the symptoms you've mentioned, given the medications and your overall health, it's difficult to say which has caused them, it could even be due to a combination of all.
While I understand the pharmacists concern, the main questions are… Are they both prescribed by the same doctor? So the doctor is aware that you're taking both and monitoring you regularly for any signs of problems?
Have you informed the doctor of your symptoms, including the muscle twitches?
IE: While there are some warnings to heed about prescribing them together, they aren't deadly contraindicated, as reported by the FDA, it due to the stimulating effect, so a doctor must take into account if the benefits to you outweigh any possible risks. While it isn't common, there are others with fibromyalgia and narcolepsy that have to take multiple stimulants, as well.
