Hello, Pete! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.

If you require controlled substances for the long-term ongoing treatment of pain, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. Due to the new regulations that were put in place, a general practice physician won't be able to prescribe them for you.

There is also no listing of doctors according to what they will or will not prescribe that I can refer to for you.

Do you currently have a PCP that you see regular that might be able to refer you to someone? If so, that might be the quickest and easiest way to find the help you need.

Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?

I am also in the Charlotte, N C area. Are you new to the area or have you been here a while? I am in a dilemma myself & it is hard to find answers b/c you have so many chronic pain sufferers seeking answers but they continue to get treated like drug seekers. These stereotype jerks need to walk in the shoes of a chronic pain patient at least two weeks, if not longer, feeling the same level of pain some of our worsts pain patients feel with the pain level being anywhere from a 7 to a 10 on a scale of 0-10. Also, they all need to go thru this pain w/ no help getting any pain meds. from anyone just like the pain patients have to deal with today. I would not budge or blink an eye when being asked for pain meds. I know it sounds cruel but take a good
look around you. Ppl get discharged from pain clincs everyday for practically doing nothing wrong. It is always some sick misunderstanding that leaves the patient out in the cold to figure it all out on their own. Do you have any medical records? Pls let me know by posting me back & maybe we can help each other. Folks could help each other better that way if a person lives close by since someone in PA or CO can't help me when it comes to finding a somewhat local pain Dr. who is not a horse's ass. I have always heard it said "you have to sort thru a lot of B.S. to find any substance in life! Pls touch base w/ me when you can especially if you have found someone decent....I could sure use the help!

Sadly, my medical & pain issues are part the reason for my marital problems. My opinion of my spouse right now is very low for various reasons. He is a self-proclaimed bastard who only cares about what he has gone through in life never mind what anyone else has gone through in life even children who only just started in life. I thank God everyday that I NEVER had children by him. He is incredibly selfish & does not know how to treat his own wife let alone children! Chronic Pain affects families & couples in so many ways... I already have planned on filing for D-I-V-O-R-C-E b/c he had counseling B4 my pain got to this level. One pastor of a church, where volunteered to do computer work a while back, told him to his face in front of me that "he was wearing me down". Guess what? He is still wearing me down years later. When there is a lot of stress & commotion w/ someone raising their voice, like it's the only way he knows how to talk, the nerves in my back start burning like crazy just like a knee jerk reaction. We were at a sleep Dr.'s appt. hoping to get sumthin like Ambien for sleep even though my lack of sleep is due to pain & anxiety. She was in the same office as my Neurologist & I was hoping she would take over my care for the Klonopin, pain care until I found a pain or back specialist, & sleep. This woman was so useless. I wish I could get my co-pay back! She didn't believe in giving out either drug I was on. Could get nurse have called & told me so I could save the time & $? What made it worse was my loser husband spoke up & said "all this was affecting our marriage & he is ready to walk"! If I had not been in such shock & pissed at her at the same time, I should have gotten up then told him to start walking. That was low. Pls text me from Charlotte, NC. Anyone w/in 2 hours, pls bring on some suggestions for pain Dr.'s! Thank you! I get worn out talking about that jerk! "In sickness & health went down the tubes years ago"!?

I am in the Richmond VA area. I am looking for a pain doctor who will write prescriptions... And DO NOT accept health insurance.
There are doctors that treat pain and prescribe pain meds that only accept cash payments. The first initial appointment is a certain amount and then there is a set fee paid monthly thereafter.
I appreciate anyone who can help me in my search.
