My Prescription Was Stolen Now What? (Page 5)

Updated

Me and my wife recently had a birthday party for my son. After the party I went into the bathroom to take one of my suboxone and i noticed the perscription was stolen. I have not reported it to the police or my doctor yet. I am not sure what to do. I dont want to ask my doctor for a replacement script because I dont know if I can get kicked out of the program. This program is the last chance for me to get my life straight and it is working so far but I am scared if I dont replace them that I run a risk of relapsing. My next appointment to get my regular refill is three weeks away. Has anybody ever delt with a situation like this or have any real advise on what to do?

You are the kind of person that I have a huge issue with. If you haven't been there you don't know what you're talking about. Suboxone is a great medicine for those of us who don't want to die shooting up. It is supposed to be a program that eventually tapers you off. But addiction is a lifelong battle and a disease and for a lot of us suboxone is taken for much longer than first intended simply because we use it for pain management or just to no that if we have it in our system we won't be tempted to do dope. The person that's been on them for 10 years could very well have a pain problem and instead of getting hooked on pain meds that will eventually lead to heroin again is using suboxone under his physicians care legally. Some are on it for life for that very reason. So please stop judging and give some credit to those who are not putting a needle in their arm anymore. You don't know how hard that is to do!!!

I so sick of pain docs scared of their shadow now and cutting our meds--I went from 120mg oxy plus fentanyl to now just 40mg oxy! They're trying to kill us! I'm thinking bout going on suboxone..as long as it gives energy, which suboxone has in the past...Ill be okay...

Jackie call your local police department so you can get a police report to take to your doctor. You also might want a copy of it too and a note from your doctor to show the pharmacy.
This day and time you want to dot all i's and cross your t's.

And THAT'S THE TRUTH RIGHT THERE!!! You've traded one vice for another. No excuses or tear jerking stories etc... Get off the s*** and STOP justifying your addiction!

I had told him that I was abusing my oxycodone. So he put me on Suboxone, 3 films a day. 10 days later he went to 4 films a day. I took about 5 days worth then stopped to see what happens, and no withdrawal symptoms at all. It's been a week now and I'm good to go. I've OD'd 4 times and was a sick bastard but I'm clean now.

Actually... (First -have you personally taken suboxone?) Now.. Suboxone in no way "makes you feel high". I personally know this, it just pretty much keeps you from going through withdrawal (and not relapsing). Methadone on the other hand I believe should not be given as a "recovery" medication. Since people still feel high.. And taking suboxone for years actually has its reasons. After someone has taken pain killers of any kind for a time period of being addictive, then talking to your doctor to get help with taking suboxone instead to recover and block the receptors in your brain from thinking they "need" whichever type of narcotic pain killers they were addicted to. After taking any pain killers for a period longer than say after a surgery or injury... Even after switching to suboxone and weaning off of that your body never feels like it did before being addicted to pain killers. Yes there are people out there who put a bad name on pretty much all suboxone patients and it really is not fair to the people who take it correctly and for its purpose and don't even think about taking any pain killers or relapsing in general. I have been taking suboxone for... At least 4 years maybe almost 5, and I have went from taking a quarter (2mg) to taking a full 8mg tablet or film a day, and to taking a half of one ((4mg) while I have been on it. I also have some spine/ back and nerve problems/injuries and because I don't want to be prescribed pain killers I have stayed on suboxone to at least try and cover up some of the daily pain. My doctor knows that's why I am still taking it. I am also sorry to the original writer, I am actually in the stolen prescription issue at the moment... I can't get my refill yet and I don't know if I should go in and wait to see my doctor tomorrow, because I am pretty sure if I just call to try and make an apt with him they won't give me an appt. And my local police station said they can't really help me at all because they get people all the time asking for reports and whatnot to just get another prescription. I just thought if my doctor changed my next refill with the missing amount added onto my normal amount per day/month I could then fill it early. I also thought about talking to my pharmacist to see if he could help me at all with filling my refill 5-6 days early this month... He knows about the person who stole the rest of my prescription, and how I have to hide 2 of my prescriptions all the time because of this person and them being an addict and also stealing from me in the past (couple years ago that was) now its happened again and I thought I was protecting them the best way I could by holding onto my purse all the time and them in a small make up bag and at night putting the make up bag with them in it literally in my pillow case each night. But this person literally cut a hole in my pillow case to pull the small bag out, take the pills and put the bottles back into the bag and into my pillowcase. I feel like I am living in a nightmare right now. I am just worried to tell my doctor or pharmacist and them possibly think I am lying that this happened. I feel like its crazy even saying or thinking about it honestly. I can't kick the person out yet.. They have 30 days from the eviction notice now. So I am going to check into lock boxes tomorrow but I don't know if those can be easily broken into, or how well they can keep my prescriptions safe. Because I feel like I have done everything I can, plus having to worry that my purse is in my eyesight/same room as me all day every day. Has anyone been where they had like 6 days until they can fill next and what do i do? Or talk to? I am honestly very worried about having a seizure or something like that trying to go 6 days without my prescription. I am a patient who is always honest with my doctor, but I mean I don't know if he knows I am being honest or not or if he will believe me and try and help with a upped prescription amount for this next month so I can fill it tomorrow. I just am panicking, I have never not taken my medications... Let alone for 6 days. I am honestly just really scared.

I'm on Vyvance I take one 30mg in the Morning & 20mg after lunch. I went and got them filled Friday. My friend came over last night and asked if she could stay because she's homeless so I wake up this morning she's gone and so is my medication smfh... I did call the police but he gave me a case number I guess for the police report.. My doctor is only in the office on Fridays. Do I have to wait for my doctor or can my counselor there call and get it done?

Brandi, you may or may not be able to get another prescription for your Vyvance before you are due.

Actually the reason doctors put you on that medication starting off is so you don't die from your body going through withdrawals. It's steps at a time, not get up and get over it. Doesn't work like that.

Im sorry but who are you too judge. You are what's wrong with this nation's beliefs on addiction it has been proven addiction is a disease of the mind so keep your opinions to yourself please

Lee, losing a prescription is not a crime like having one stolen. It is highly doubtful your doctor will write you another one.

Actually methadone and suboxone are far better than abusing pills every day. There's no comparisons really. I've been on methadone 5 years and am a fully functioning adult now. I go to school, work and am healthy. It's impossible to function while taking pills all the time so methadone saved my life. You should really do the research on things before you start judging and shooting off with your completely wrong opinions.

I just happen to have had my pain medications stolen by my own mother so I was trolling the internet looking to see what my options were. After reading your post, I am repulsed. There are people out there who suffer from addiction and it is a sickness. Not everyone recovers at the same pace and that every program works the same for every individual but for an addict, taking the pharmaceutical alternative versus street drugs is much safer and it takes a strong person to admit that they have a problem.
How the hell do you think you are to pass judgement on people who suffer from this horrible disease?
You never know what someone else has been through or what baggage they carry, fortunately you have obviously never struggled with this & I hope you never do but I have lost family members to this disease and I praise anyone who admits openly that they need help and are willing to put their pride aside to live a normal life.
You really are a special kind of stupid to be making statements like that.
I was struck by a motor vehicle as a pedestrian about a year ago and have had back surgery as a result. I have tried every alternative to narcotic pain medication to relieve my pain but medication seems to be working along with physical therapy.
In the process my body has become dependent and I fear the day that I try to take myself off of these medications.
I am grateful that there are plans out there the help aid with withdrawals.

In regard to a reply from Jane fr 2012?. Replacing suboxone is NOT trading one addiction for the other. That is plain ignorance. As far as a script being stolen I've been through that several times over the years from my kids stealing my subs. I ended up having to keep them on me.My Dr and I have a great relationship . I've always just been honest.. Honesty is the best policy. For me.

This is such an old post but anyone reading it..... it seems a fairly easy answer to me...
#1- file police report
#2- show to doctor and ask his/her advice
Assuming you've done nothing wrong

I have had this happen to my oxycotin! I just refilled my script and my daughter came to visit me, I never thought a thing about it. Well, when it was time for my next dose, I released that she had taken the whole bottle. My OWN daughter! So the next day I went to my doctor and told him what had happened and he said he would refill but ONLY that time! Never again, (he had been my doctor for years also) but I had no way to pay for the script so my landlord paid for it and I paid him back a little at a time. Thank goodness. So, yes, file a police report and stay strong but honest. I hope this helps some!
