My Prescription Was Stolen Now What? (Page 3)
UpdatedMe and my wife recently had a birthday party for my son. After the party I went into the bathroom to take one of my suboxone and i noticed the perscription was stolen. I have not reported it to the police or my doctor yet. I am not sure what to do. I dont want to ask my doctor for a replacement script because I dont know if I can get kicked out of the program. This program is the last chance for me to get my life straight and it is working so far but I am scared if I dont replace them that I run a risk of relapsing. My next appointment to get my regular refill is three weeks away. Has anybody ever delt with a situation like this or have any real advise on what to do?
Hi
I am hanging in there. It has been hard. Very difficult. I received a certified letter stating i broke my contract for not having my medicine secured and locked up (even though I a pretty sure it was locked) the Locksmith who came to change my house doors told me that the fire boxes (which is what I think I have) from Wally-World are very easy to pick and get into. Be honest. Do go to the police, they can take the report, and you will need that for your doctor. Do everything you can to secure your home. Next time it might be more than meds. Get a Lock Box and hide it. Its a pain in the butt to have to pull it out everyday but its a small price to pay to stay legit in your program and not get robbed. I went a step further and have started to not take cmpany in my home. I have one or two friends, real friends, that are allowed but other than them, no one is getting in. I am tired of heartless people using me as their personal atm or pharmacy. One bad thing is the clinic policy is not to replace when not all were stolen so I have had to get by on a few that the the kind old thief left behind. It has been very hard on my body and psyche. If you have a separate therapist, tell him or her and she can help with talk therapy as well as possible scripts for clonidine or neurontin or something to calm nerves. Neurontin helps with both anxiety and nerve pain. short term its pretty safe. but speak to your doctor nevertheless. They are your support, so use them
Jane, why are you on this thread? We are people who are trying to get our lives back. Stop being a troll. If you had an inkling of knowledge of suboxone you would not have said anything like that
I'm wanting get to join to try to help peoplr
Who are you telling to shut up?, that's just plain rude!!!
This happened to me. They did not replace the medicine because having it stolen is a violation of the contract I signed at the beginning of my treatment. Yep. If it was that "easy " to steal then I must have A) not had it locked up and B) Told someone I was taking it. Both infringements. Even tho I did not tell anyone but My neighbor was in the same program as me and I believe the person/thief is a friend of hers. and I was not home at the time, they were locked up but the lock was jimmied. Ask yourself if you can get through without too much drama and symptoms. I also think that telling them is was stolen is also a part of the contract so you are probably damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think we are the only population who regularly has to experience this in medical treatment.
This post isn't about rather he should quit altogether or not, it's about his maintenance meds being stolen. Quit being so judgmental and don't bother posting your opinion on someone else's life & their habits, especially if what you're going to post has nothing to do with the op's question(s). I can't stand people who think just because "this" worked for them, they think "this" works for all. It doesn't. EVERY addiction is different because everyone is different.
Congrats on being clean for 6 years. BUT you have to understand everyone is different, every addict is different. You got addicted from a medical condition(wreck) but not all opiate addicts became addicted in this way. Some grew up watching their parents pop pills & didn't realize until they were 13 that not everyone takes pills. Everyone's situation is different. I'm so tired of hearing\reading comments like this. Yall act like y'all know each & every addict on here & what's best for them. smdh
Suboxone has saved so many lives including my own! It's definitely not trading one drug for another. Methadone is very potent. I changed a lot on methadone and it was horrible. Are you an addict?? Sure doesn't sound like it based on your statement.
Yep take this asa lesson RULE #1 don't leave your prescription drugs unlocked (especially during a party in a bathroom) they are gone and you won't be likely able to replace them without a heart to heart with your doctor.
I think the only way to avoid serious WD is to find a black market source of Suboxone. They are a dime by the dozen on line most are for real and depending on where you live they might be available. Not to lecture you but I am not at all surprised and it takes an incident like this to teach most people that pill cabinets might as well be labelled to strangers to say open me up. Sometimes just for kicks like revealing clues about you, others as a source for actually drugs. Chances are the theft is not opiate Naive and has no real threat of ODing because should they kick the bucket (extremely unlikely to impossible scenario you could and be held partly responsibly for their death). These are nasty truths however unlikely that I hope will convince you of the importance of putting all medication behind a lock.
My medicine has been stolen as well. Just sent a message to the doctor. I will be out of everything tomorrow and can't fill until next Monday. My doc trusts me. She even told me I know you don't abuse your meds, u never asked for early refills in 3 years, not once.
I am praying she will give me something to get through. A different medicine and the insurance I'll pay for. Like if I ask for opana. I usually take OxyContin and oxycodone.
Hey jane....sorry but NO NO AND NO...you DON'T feel high from these meds..!!! They only relive the craving for opioid type drugs. ..do some homework next time instead of making ignorant claims in your post....have a GREAT day...HOUSE
What if they think i took or sold them? I have been on this medication for a while and i have never been through this. This is why i carry them on me bc people steal. I am in good standing with my doc.
People get on this blog for advice and encouragement but ignorant people like you love to preach. Get over yourself, everyone's ordeal is different and I can't believe u are so ignorant to judge so many people. Ot is down right sad that u feel the need to get on Your pedestal and judge, preach and criticize so many people. What is wrong with you. Some people ended up loosing a loved one and one of those people was me. Ny making those rude disrespectful comments you only make yourself look like u think u belong in a castle. People like you with your nasty words and judgments disgust me and you have a lot of growing up to do BC words do hurt and many addicts have killed themselves because of the things people like you say. Get a heart and some compassion BC without it u will probably hurt many and end up all alone which is where u deserve until u repent. I'm sick thinking about what a foul person you are and one can only hope you become a decent human, ahit one can dream, should be ashamed of yourself if not embarrassed
Your response in a joke. I take subs and they DO NOT MAKE ME FEEL HIGH. Clearly you don't know what you're talking about. We take then to kill craving, also it's an opiate blocker so prevent us from using. Ppl are dying from opiate overdoses and we would rather take a little strip every day rather than keep ruining our lives with drugs. Why don't you keep your BS opinion out of here. You sound like a complete heartless i****
I know this thread is fairly old now, but if it can help someone who has had this happen recently and is looking for answers, then I suppose it's valid. I sympathize with those who have been through this - having their meds stolen, or losing them, it really does suck. As far as getting them replaced, it really all depends on your Doctor and the relationship you have established with them over time - but every Doc is different - as are state regs.... so what is possible in Ohio may not be by law in New York, etc. We also need to remember that these Doctors can be held accountable by agencies above them, like the DEA and the FDA, not to mention the rules that Pharmacists also have to follow with dispensing controlled substances...so in some cases, it's not even the Doctor's (or Pharmacist's) decision, because they don't want to get into trouble, either.
I would think that filing a police report is probably your best bet, but, there's no guarantee that this will work, either. When I entered the recovery program and was prescribed Bupe, I had to sign a contract where it was stipulated in VERY BOLD TYPE that under no circumstance would the Doctor ever replace lost or stolen medication. Their logic is that it's up to us to insure that the meds we are prescribed are safe - which means, don't ever leave them in a hotel dresser ( are you kidding? That's begging for them to be stolen!) and don't ever carry more with you than you absolutely need. The remaining meds should be in a safe or lock box to which only you have the combination or key to, and it shouldn't be stored in plain sight, either..
The good news with Bupe, as opposed to opiates, is that it has a very long half-life to it, so if you end up being short by just a few days, you're probably going to get thru those couple days just fine ( you may be a bit edgy, but some of this could be psychological too - remember... most of us on this drug are recovering addicts and we know that the mental addiction can be just as tough to deal with), so if you're only 2-3 days short, it's probably not worth "flagging" yourself to your Doctor. But three weeks, yeah, that's a tough one... a police report would be the only thing that I believe that would work - but there's no guarantee that will, either ... again, every Doc is different.
Here's what I wouldn't do... DON'T self medicate with anything OTHER than what you are prescribed... (and I'm not condoning you hitting the street for these... but I understand the feelings you are dealing with, so I'm being realistic). DON'T reach for Benzos or other tranqs or sedatives, because besides being dangerous (and ridiculously addictive) they could come up on a drug panel, and you could get risk kicked out of your program entirely. So, if you only have a few days to get through to your next scheduled appointment, then tough it out. Any more time than that and I'd be calling the Doc - but, understand that it might not go over well. Remember, they've heard every story and excuse in the book, and they are well aware of the extent(s) to what some drug addicts will go through to feel good again. ;)
Yes I am in the same problem I had my xanx filled the 26th of august I counted them and 20 have been taken doctor nor drug store can do nothing so I suppose we will have to suffer.
yes I have had this problem myself, some of my meds. were taken last month and i tdidn't call my doctor either for I know he will not replace them. But mine are totally different med.So maybe and I hope so you may very get your doctor to at least believe you this time.Which I'm not saying yours didn't get stolen. But I know what your meds are and if your doctor don't want you to relaspe which I pray that you want he or she will help you so that you don't good luck.Oh by the way I do know if you have insurance that helps you with getting your meds THEY WILL NOT!!! pay for them until your script is due again.
I was honest and I got taken out of the program; do not at all tell them somebody stole your script, well they stole my whole purse and it was in there!!!! My b**** doctor knows there was an investigation and police report and kicked me out! She said she forgot to make a contract so if somebody dies on them its on her, she looses her job!!! That's bulls***. I am 25 and not once did I know that you were suppose to keep pain killers in a safe or security box bc she never gave me the paper until today when she kicked me out of the program. It was her fault, she should of made me sign the contract a year ago when she put me on norco.
I was honest with my pain management doctor, i told them the rx was stolen. I got kicked out of the program. Good luck.
Very well said Jane NoGroovin! You are so right! Your statement was a fact, the other persons opinion is totally false! They have no idea what they are talking about.
