Multaq Anyone Else Take It (Page 4)

Okay I will start off by saying this drug scares me because it has not been out for very long. I have Afrial Fib which is not behaving I can be 70 beats one min and regular and the next I will be at 190 and in atrial fib and flutter. this is my last chance at a med I have tried all the others I usually end up in the ER two or three times a week. I have had one ablation so far. If anyone else takes it please let me know what it is like. I am starting it on Tuesday.
I'm 32 yrs old and I take multaq and about 10 other medications. Beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, anxiety meds, pain meds etc...My question is if you're taking multaq and you're my age, does it get better? Because it feels like it's never getting better and I've been in the hospital probably 10 tines this month. I've been diagnosed with 15 different things. It seems like it's an unending cycle of drs, meds, appts, no work, stuck in bed. This sucks lol so does it get better?
I have afib and take multaq, doing well cotrols my afib, you have to stay away fr caffein and do not drink cold beverages. Or ice cream coldness shocks the heart. And no alcohol.
Trapper, I noticed your comment about gerd. I had trouble with a full dose of Multaq; less with a 2 part 1/2 dose. When I had gerd I used vinegar tablets instead of the standard remedies. Much better. Seems that older people have too little acid production. May not be good for under sixty or even all of the over sixties.
Well I was two days shy of my six weeks to go off the Multaq when I had an A-fib episode. I cried and cried. Then I called the Medical University of South Carolina and told them about it. They told me this is normal to have an episode or a flutter sensation. I thought they meant shortly after the procedure. Cardiac nurse told me to stay on the Multaq for four more weeks. If nothing happens I can go off the Multaq. So Valentine's Day is the day if all goes well. Yes the radio frequency is done by heat also. So I am playing the waiting game at the moment. Yesterday my husband found out he has prostate cancer. Something else to worry about. The urologist said that he was low risk. So he is scheduled to have radioactive seeds implanted after his birthday next month. Life is never easy. I hope things are going well for you. I just wish everyone good health, happiness and peace of mind.
I used Multaq until my AFIB was joined by flutter. I started Xarelto and returned to a full dose of Multaq and nothing helped. I was so weak that my CPAP almost sufocated me. I was never clearly informed by drs that it was extremely debilitating but it was. First visit to cardiologist he took me off multaq, put me on xxxxxx and it immediately slowed my pulse to normal or slow. Took a month to get the ablation. Had bleeding into leg which caused problems that lingered for months. After 3 months I'm off Xalreto, Multaq, and xxxxxx. Winter makes exercise tricky on bicycle, knee prob makes walking tough. But I get stronger and have no obvious sustained arrhythmia, praise the Lord and modern medicine.
SCMEEMAW,
Sounds great...I hope you stay out of Afib! Only time will tell.
I have been on Amiodarone since May 2014.....it's working, however when exercising my BPM goes wild at times, then I slow down. Is the radio frequency ablation different from what I had...hot tip they used to burn areas where the extra beats was coming from? This was also mapping of heart.

I Have been having low blood sugar now for several weeks and it has gotten worse and blood sugar dropping lower. I did not have this before taking Multaq. I have been taking Multaq for about 4 months. Also now I feel my heart feeling funny after taking Multaq. Did not have any of this when 1st started Multaq but I do now. I think at this point Multaq is making this worse or at least giving me other problems. Yes it has stopped the A Fib so far but I really would like to get off of it. Anybody else have any of these problems ?
Finn girl , I had my radio frequency ablation on Dec. 3rd. I went into AFib as they were getting to take me out of the prep area to go for the procedure. By being in AFib the procedure did not take as long as it normally does. Mine was radio frequency ablation. They went in both sides of groin and my neck. I had more erratic impulses which really surprised the electrophysiologists. He ablated over 45 different areas on both sides of the heart. He gave us a photo of my heart with the mapping sites. Now the waiting game begins, six weeks with out AFib, then I can get off of the Multaq. I surely hope so, that stuff has made me so tired and my mouth is dry all the time. Blessings to you and everyone. I will give an update later in January.
Patty, the Multaq worked for me fine for more than four years. The past six months I have been having more a- fib episodes because the effectiveness of the Multaq is not working as well. Saw my electrophysiologists in May and he is going to do radio frequency heart ablation on me early December. He has a 85 % success rate of it working the first time around. Hopefully I will be one of the lucky ones. I feel as if the A-Fib is controlling my life and am tired of it. I go out of town several times a year and I always must know where the hospitals are just in case I have a bad episode. I also have essential hypertension. May we all get the answers and help we need.
I agree that gerd (acid reflux) has something to do with having an a fib attack. As I have said Multaq so far is working for me. No more A fib but I do know if I eat to much or spicey foods that may come back up in my throat or cause heart burn I start having some problens with my heart rhythm. I also am burping a lot which can be caused by take Multaq. I take zantac for the stomach every night before dinner or going to bed. Also I have elavated the head of by bed a few inches. This has
really helped. Good luck everybody . At least we are all in the same boat.I hope one day they will find a cure for a fib.Untill then keep positive, think good thoughts and above all thank god for the medicines we do have to help us. We will get through this.
CAROLANN,
I took it for 4+ years....the drug was great, but it stopped working. so now I am back on Amiodarone.....that scares me to no end.
I started multaq a month ago and it has been a life saver. I have not had any a fib since I went on it . It sometimes takes a week to build up in your system. But I don't know what I would do with out it. I was going to the hospital once or twice a week. I don't like taking medication but it works for me and that's better for me than a fib and a chance of having a stroke.
Well, it's now been a month and I'm not sure Multaq is the drug for me. I'm having more episodes of Afib than ever before.... Like every few days. I'm thinking I want to go back onto the Sotalol and see if it will work for me... I should have never stopped really. I also take 10mg twice a day of A beta blocker which helps with PACs exept when I'm in Afib. Ugh. Taking 400mg a day of magnesium, prozac, Xanax , and xerelto . This really sucks.
My doc changed me from Propafenone to Multag in Jan. It seems to be doing a good job, I don't go into afib very often and it only lasts a short time. I have medicare and AARP; I was paying a $45 co-pay, last refill I had to pay $192 co-pay; the new rules with what they call the "gap", check it out.........
Has anyone had a reaction that is similar to itching inside your body--not on your skin? That's the best I can describe it. I don't know if it's from this drug or a different one. I have been taking this for about 4 1/2 years with no issues, but lately I have been having these sensations. They seem to subside when I haven't taken any drugs for several hours.
Yes, I am on the meds.....2 ablations....they did not work for me. I am currently on drug called Amidorone. I have had AB/Flutter for the last 12 years. My last ablation fixed the flutter. I had have a cardio version twice this year to convert me back to regular sinus rythem (sp?)
Good luck to you!
Glad it's worked for you, FinnGirl. It seems to work quite well for some people. Gary, a frequent poster, for example, said its been good for him long term without side effects. We all are so different in responses to afib treatments. (I guess to drugs in general, for that matter)
Please use the drug...I was on it for 4 1/2 years until the Multag stopped working.
Best drug that I have taken, no side effects. I have been on all the others. Now I am back on Amiodarone, which has lot of side effects, but I do not have other choice. I hope this helps.
