Okay I will start off by saying this drug scares me because it has not been out for very long. I have Afrial Fib which is not behaving I can be 70 beats one min and regular and the next I will be at 190 and in atrial fib and flutter. this is my last chance at a med I have tried all the others I usually end up in the ER two or three times a week. I have had one ablation so far. If anyone else takes it please let me know what it is like. I am starting it on Tuesday.

i suffer from acid reflux but not bloating and i have major problems since taking multaq for sickly feelings no vomiting but very sick bloating and painful stomach i stopped the multaq and it all went away but my afib came back and racing heart ive had abalation once and they want me to have again but i dont want it so they put me on this im on loads of other meds as well so i was wandering if anyone had tried 200mg of multaq twice a day incase it might be to much for me i dont know which is worse

I also saw this preacher mention that a docotr had helped him by prescribing something for the afib. A few people in my family have afib and I am one. I forgot what he had said helped and did nothing about it. Recently I heard him mention it again and got some magnesium - it has helped! I could get sttressed about something before and feel my heart going crazy - expected this to happen yesterday when I stressed but my heartbeat stayed steady. I am very excited because I prefer natural to chemical and certainly to all kinds of medical procedures. It cannot harm you - so give it a try if you have afib.

very interested in hearing more...can you give any details? boy, that would be great... were you on multaq and then had ablation? still on multaq?
for those of you on multaq, did you have ablations before or after? i've just begun on this drug, will be on a holter monitor next week with an echo to follow in a few more weeks to see if there is any improvement. doc has talked about ablation but he is not sure it would be successful for me so he is hesitant to put me throught process. any thoughts?

I was on multaq for 3 months and worked great. Doc did an ablation a year and a half ago and besides a little flutter every other day or so I am fine. By the way I had flutter and afib. Doc did the flutter and has kept the afib pretty much in check. Just to let everyone know, I have a doctor friend who specializes in afib. Everyone hold on for 18 more months. Something radical is coming. No pills no ablation!

Hi Bri,

Thanks for your info on the Hospital. I checked on internet and found out that this Dr. Natale had worked at one point for Cleveland Clinic but then Cleveland Clinic did not renew his contract for some reason or the other. He was well liked there and did a lot of good in electrophysiology..

You have lots of things in your favor in this condition of A-Fib - one is you are extremely young and in good physical condition and you had the ablation and it looks like it worked very well for you, you don't smoke, and you lead a relatively quiet life and that I mean you are not one of the partying types who has to go out every night and get polluted.

One of these days you will get married and have a couple of kids and live happily ever after.

I am located in Ohio, and had the ablation done by Dr. Natale at Cleveland Metro Hospital. I have never done any drugs of any kind or even smoked a ciggerette, I did not have my first alcoholic drink until I was in college and while I did have some fun nights on the town, I did not engage in huge amounts of consumption, After graduating I rarely ever have alcohol if so it is just 1-2 with some friends, I guess as someone else said bad things happen to good people all the time an it just hasnt been my year... thanks Tutsi I tell myself that everyday and I am feeling great just slowly working my heart back into condition

My EP said that the trial enrolled patients with permanent afib (meaning that the afib last for a very long time when a patient has an episode). He also said that the results of the trial have not been full released, but there was a higher rissk of cardiovascular events--such as stork, heart attack or death, in these patients taking Multaq.

He said that if a patient has paroxysmal afib, the drug is still relatively safe He also said the FDA still believes the drug is safe.

So I guess I'll stay on it for a while longer. I don't like the alternatives..

Hi Bri,
I would imagine it will take a few months to recuperate from the ablation so be patient. Did you have the pulmonary vein ablation?? After all when these doctors go into the heart and work there that in itself is something foreign to the heart and it takes time to heal. I am glad you are off Multaq - there are whole bunch of other meds that will regulate the heart rate, of which I am sure you are aware of. I have not heard for such a young person as yourself to have A-Fib. Most of the time it's us oldies who get it.
If I may ask what state are you in and where did you have the ablation done.
I wish you all the luck in the world - it's is going to be OK trust me.

I asked my cardiologist about the Multaq warning and he told me that the few problems which have occurred have been associated with simultaneous use of alcohol and tylenol.
As for me, as I've mentioned previously, I've been on 2x400mg/day for over a year and had a few a-fib episodes, the longest of which was 48hr. I've noticed a loss of power when I'm sprinting on my bike and an inability to get my HR above 147, whereas it was previously 167. It also causes constipation which is relieved by a glass of prune juice!!

Thats fine Tutsi, thank you for your reply, as a young very active person dealing with this is a struggle when it comes to social and everyday life, I could do anything I wanted in my first 22 years of my life I have big dreams and physically in great shape, then in the middle of my 23rd year i get diagnosed, its so hard to tell myself I cant do things anymore that I never gave a second thought about, I am sure you also have had issues like this. how do you or anyone else here handle them? I am learning what my body can an cant do now but it is very frustrating at times. Thanks.

Hi Patty,

Yes, I've been taking Multaq for about 5 months now and have not had a single Afib attack since, my heart beats perfectly even under heavy workouts. I have no real noticeable side effects either that some others seem to be having. But then again everyone has a different physiology and effects will definitely vary with different people.

I started having Lone Afib for about 8 months and then my Dr. started me on Multaq (other meds did not work that well) which in my case has worked completely. In my case I fit the exact medical profile for which Multaq was designed for. It kicked in after two weeks and so far I have a normal life again.

When taking multaq, I was 28, to 29. I was having anxiety problems with it. For me it wouldn't work especially when it was hot and humid. It also seemed to me that the free samples worked a lot better than having the prescription. I could be wrong.

Bri, I don't like to divulge my age but I was older.

If you "Google" following: " Atrial Fibrillation" and click on "Wikipedia etc" and "Frequently asked questions" you will get insight of various stages of A-Fib.

Mine is chronic although I am not always in A-Fib and it responds to treatment - medications - and recent radioactive iodine drink, from which I see a huge difference in my pulse rate (my thyroid was overactive for maybe 15 years and that could have originally brought on the A-Fib). Mine became chronic after my 2008 gallbladder surgery, with general anesthesia.

I personally will not take Multaq again - I had so many bad side effects almost immediately, was on it for about a week) let alone what might happen to one's body years from now. There was a warning article on Multaq in Jan. 2011. It is mentioned in this blog - you just have to leaf a few pages back.

Hi Patty-I was diagnosed one year ago with this A-Fib after two trips to the emergency room with very high pulse rate. Multaq prescribed by my cardiologist after many tests, echo, stress, etc. These tests were fine, I also take blood pressure meds. Only side effects are the ones I described earlier, tired, anxiousness. Good luck, and keep posting.
