Methadone, Bipolar (Top voted first)
UpdatedHello! Ok so, i was diagnosed with several mood disorders including bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, ocd, and borderline personality disorder. I have been on alot of different medicationsls and quit takong everuthing after i became pregnant. I decided after i started the methadone clinic and got into church that i was misdiagnosed due to drug use and whatnot, becuase my moods were stabilized, my anxiety and paraniodness got better. Now im detoxong out of the clinic, i have about 4 more months to go, and ive read several articles about methadone helping with bipolar. Now im scared that i really coild have this. I mean i do have mood swings and anxiety but its controllable, not lyk before. What do yu think?

Hello Hope! How are you?
I do understand your concern. When I was on pain management years ago, I was diagnosed as having depression and put on an antidepressant, but it all turned out to be due to the affect the narcotics were having on me and once I stopped taking them, things went back to normal in a little over a month and I no longer needed the antidepressant.
In your case, however, the only thing you can really do is wait and see. While this drug can help with Bipolar, it is still a narcotic, which acts as a depressant in the body, so it could also be causing the mood swings and anxiety.
And if it does turn out that you are bipolar, or have other mental health issues, you do need to remember that they are just that, illnesses. They are not something you can control or should be ashamed of and getting help with them, if needed is the best thing to do.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
Just chiming in on this. I've been BiPolar 1 most of my life, wasn't dxd til 2000. I was placed on Gabapentin (for fibro, but people noticed I was immediately more outgoing, etc), as well as Lexapro & Seroquel. Then I ruined several disks in my lower spine & was placed on MS-Contin. My moods were stable, but my PDoc moved. My new one weaned me off of Lexapro, kept the Seroquel, & added Lamictal. I started getting fevers (one went up to 109). It took 4 months for the drs to figure out I had NMS (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome). I tried Lamictal alone & got Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. Now My bipolar is completely unmedicated, as my Pdoc is afraid that any antipsychotic will set off NMS again. (He tried a few "lighter" meds, one pill=instant fever). So, basically, my pain meds ARE helping a lot. My depressions aren't as long-lasting, though I still have difficulties with the mania. I'll go 3-4 days with no sleep. I've given up on valium & sleep aids when I'm manic, as they don't work. 2 months ago I went 8 days with no sleep, and that was on a diet of pain-killers, anti-anxiety meds as well as other maintenance meds. That was pretty much a fluke, though. I can say, narcotic pain meds help my bipolar. I went 2 weeks off morphine & my husband couldn't stand me, I wouldn't shut up! Hope that wasn't too much info, or the wrong kind. Good luck!
