I have been on Lyrica for 2 1/2 years. It works so much better than Neurontin. I have a spinal cord injury at C5/6 and severe degeneration due to arthritis on the right side of C4/5. The Lyrica does cause weight gain, but having my pain reduced is worth it. I just have to work harder at eating healthier, which is not a bad thing. :) Neurontin made me gain 13 pounds in 10 days!! No change in healthy eating habits.?? Neurontin also caused extreme swelling in my feet and ankles. I say do what works for you!!! For me, it is Lyrica.

I was prescribed Lyrica for Neurolgia in my teeth, caused from nerve endings in my gums, it never helped, but I also have prolapsed discs in my lower spine and while on Lyrica it never helped my back pain, I use Butrans Patches for that and find they do help.

18 years ago, I had 2 ruptured discs which were removed. 4 years later, I had to have another removed. I have severe ciatica, because I have reinjured my back last week. Yesterday, my doctor started me on Lyrica. I didn't even check the side effects as I am in so much pain that I can not even function. Just 24 hrs on this medication, and I am doing better! I am apprehensive about the side effects that you are saying could happen, but I am going to take the positive side and tell myself that I will NOT let it cause me to eat more, like many of you, I cannot afford to gain anymore weight. Hoping being positive works, and I hope you all do well!!

I was prescribed Lyrica, after I had surgery on my cervical spine, I started having what seemed to me to be like panic attacks, only at night when trying to rest, I get dizzy, and feel faint sometimes, this all comes on me at night when I try to rest. Anyway, I was prescribed Lyrica 50mg 2 x day and after a week that stopped. I now am having problems with the 2 last discs in my spine, and have started having the problems at night again. They have decided to increase my dose of Lyrica and see if that helps. The only thing that bothers me is that I have been through MRI brain scans, heart Doctor and neurologist, and they can't seem to figure out WHY I have these attacks at night. I hope the increase in Lyrica helps.

I also was prescribed LYRICA For a spinal disorder----C-2 thru C-7 & other stuff. LYRICA has had no effect on my pain, but I have gained 15lbs! BUMMER! I constantly feel hungry--even right after eating! I'm taking myself off of it.

I see a awesome pain control doctor and yes it is for nerve pain as well. Tell your pharmist to call the doctor before he starts telling you wrong info. I took it and it worked beautifully but I did have side effects and I was unable to continue the medication and now the nerve pain from my back is worst so yes it does work, just watch for the side effects. I have been on Lycria for about 2 weeks. 50 mg twice dailey. I have had nerve pain of the neck back and shoulder. It has worked very well. My doctor did not mention anything about stopping my other meds, however, I don't seem to need most of them. I'm still on anti-depressents. I was hurt trying to stop a dog from attacking my dog. I have a torn rotator cuff and there may be a tiny piece of bone touching my spinal cord. I also have fibromyalgia and ostio arthritis. I will just have to see if this will continue to work. My problem is that most of the ain meds either don't work at all or only work for awhile then slowly stop working.

I just today began taking Lyrica 50mg twice daily for severe low back, leg, hip and knee pain - ruptured discs, severe nerve damage. As unbelievable as it sounds, I already seem to be somewhat more mobile, having been extremely inactive due to intensive pain. I hope this continues. My orthopedist prescribed taking this dosage for 4 days and then calling him to furnish input re effective/ineffective. I certainly hope it does not cause weight gain, tho. Can't afford that with already being very sedentary. Have been unable to work for past 4 yrs. after 28 yrs. in the legal field. For approx. 6 yrs., I was taking Neurontin 800 mg. 2/3 times daily for pain as well as for my bipolar condition. I was also taking extremely strong pain meds back then. Now am only on hydrocodone 7.5 1/2 three times daily. I will follow-up after my 4-day period. Best of luck to all who indures chronic pain on a daily basis. Hang tough, and let's continue to exchange info to one another. In that respect, we may all benefit.

Hello,
I am taking Lyrica for peripheral Neuropathy (two fingers are numb) due to hernated disc. I have been on the therapeutic dose for about 5 days. I am still numb so it has not worked as of yet. I will keep trying though. NOt sure about the other medication you mentioned.
