Lotrel 5/20 Vs Amlodipine 5mg/ Benazepril 20mg
UpdatedHave been taking lotrel 5/20 for high blood pressure for some years now. My pharmacist said i could save a lot of money by switching to amlodipine 5mg and benazepril 20 mg. Is there a difference between lotrel 5/20 and the cheaper individual purchase I have specified above. There is a considerable amount of difference between the two. Aren't they the same, just differing in price?

After further researching Lotrel 5/20 and the two active ingredients listed, I would agree that your pharmacist is right, and there really is no difference between Lotrel and the cheaper individual purchase. I found Lotrel 5/20 to be a precise combination of Amlodipine 5 mg + Benazepril 20 mg. The 5/20 stands for 5 mg of Amlodipine, and 20 mg of Benazepril. Each one is proven to help suppress hypertension. Separately taken however, is questionable to be as effective, based on each drugs bioavailability.

my doctor switched me from lotrel 5 20 to benazepril 20 and verapamil 120. my bp is running higher than normal, could it be the meds?
Talk to your doctor. The inactive ingredients in the pills will differ so there could be small differences in absorption but it should not be a major difference,

is lotrel a satisfactory alternative fo hyzaar/? what about the diuretic included in hyzaar?
Does lotrel-5/20 have a diuretic in it? Or will it act as a diuretic in combination with other meds?
I was on lotrel (generic) for 20+ years, new insurance made me switch to two separate medicines - know I have developed a dry cough - 6 weeks now. Is it possible the medicines act differently when separated?
