I just started them so not sure if they will work or not. I called my pharmacy and they have the green ones made by. I can't remember the name it was in the bog Ocean something anyway it was one of the good ones. So they have them in stock. I am going to see if I can get them. I am so glad I read this because I had a terrible problem with a generic Lorazepam. I took the LOrazepam for 4 years made by Sandoz never had a problem never had to change my dose. Sandoz just discontinued and I was given another generic made by Activis, horrible I was having withdrawal symptoms. So now I am forced to buy the brand which is costing a fortune until I can figure out another generic that will work. I made my feelings known to Activis. That is why I am trouble with my IBS now because of the anxiety of what happened with the Lorzepam. I do not need another bad generic drug. I cannot believe this is allowed in th US. Thanks for responding.

The River's Edge pills are yellow. I am glad you are not having a problem with these. My experience is that after some time on the yellow pills my original symptoms started returning. If you have access to the green pills I would get them if you can. You may be okay for a while on the yellow but I would not want to trust them for too long especially from the experiences listed here! How long were you taking the yellow pills? I hope you find the information here helpful, I know I did. Thanks for joining the discussion!

Years ago I was on the green ones. This time I got yellow ones but I don't seem to have a problem with them but I called the pharmacy and they said the ones they have now are green. So I guess I will get those.

Pinkcat, I am sorry to hear that you're finding yourself faced with new health issues. It's never fun adjusting to a new diagnosis or medication, although if the RA was causing you pain then I am glad they have caught it. I had never heard anything about a correlation between RA and IBS before, but that's interesting. I have a friend who has a lot of stomach issues as well as RA; she was never officially diagnosed with IBS but I would not be surprised if it was an oversight and she does have it. At any rate I hope they come up with a treatment plan that's easy to adjust to and keeps you from suffering too much as I know RA can be painful when not properly managed. Best of luck to you with it all!!!

I also was hoping I would adjust a little better to the Oceanside version but ultimately I can't really complain when I stop to compare it to the River's Edge version. I still shudder to think about the nightmare that was for me.

I stumbled across this article recently "Brand Name vs. Generic Drugs: Are They Really the Same?" and it kind of helped me understand why I haven't found another brand that works as well for me as Breckenridge did. I think it would be a very interesting read for anyone who stumbles through this forum, wondering why the yellow pill doesn't work for them.

Lmac, I hope your reaction to this medicine is not getting any worse! How frustrating to find medicine that works and then be allergic to it. The Oceanside seems to be working well and hopefully will continue.
Hmm, I had hoped that after sometime on the Oceanside it would work better for you but I guess at least it is better then the yellow one!
I was just diagnosed with RA(Rheumatoid Arthritis) and was curious if anyone else that is taking this medicine has it? In doing some research it shows that IBS and RA are common together. I have not yet been given any meds but go back to dr next week to see what I need to do next. Right now it is mostly in my hands, wrists and ankles. I look forward to more updates on how everything is working out for everyone.

Lmac, wow that is a very interesting development. I was quite curious how your switch to Oceanside was going so it's nice to hear an update. I would definitely contact your doctor/pharmacist about the possibility of any kind of allergic reaction developing, it affecting your mouth/tongue seems a little frightening. Hopefully it's unrelated, since it took so long to present but itself, but it's not worth messing around with. Especially since it could be something as simple as the capsule, which would mean switching to yet another manufacturer (aside from River's Edge, obviously) could keep your problem under control without any unnecessary risk to your health. It's really a shame how crazy things have gotten with this drug lately, it was my miracle cure. I am adjusting but can't help being disappointed that I have to take more pills now than I ever had to on Breckenridge's.

Hmm, I'm sorry to hear the Oceanside isn't working well for you. I have to say its like a miracle for me. Within 20 minutes all pain is gone. I've never had another brand work this well. However, I may possibly have either a never heard of side effect or am developing an allergy to it. The tip of my tongue gets numb when I take it. It's very weird. Last time I got a hive on my forehead along with it. I could live with this if I knew for sure it wasn't leading up to some really bad allergic reaction, but meanwhile I'm quite concerned. And incredibly annoyed that I may have to give up my miracle pill if this gets worse.

Ugh, I am so sorry for you. To be exposed to that yellow pill while you are supposed to be on a vacation is just horrible. I honestly wish they would just take it off the market; it's a bit ironic that the pill that worked miracles for everyone is the one that went out of production. Oceanside still doesn't work nearly as well for me as Breckenridge did, but anything is better than the yellow pill. You should contact your pharmacy and explain the situation, especially if you were not warned that the switch in manufacturers could change your reaction to the medication. They might be able to give you a refund and/or special order you a different brand. It's best to get yourself back on any other generic, as soon possible, so that you can hopefully avoid your condition getting any worse.

I left for vac. 1 week ago and had been taking the green pill for 5 years with no problems,before I left I got a refill and was given the yellow pill, I have been unable to eat anything without getting sick ! The yellow pill doesn't work!

Good news, I hope. I confirmed that both the brand name Librax from Valeant and the generic from Oceanside are manufactured by Legacy Pharmaceuticals in Puerto Rico. It makes no sense for one company to produce the same med differently for two brands both owned by the same company, other than perhaps the outward appearance to differentiate. I could be wrong, often am haha but my guess is it's the same thing. These are the ingredients from the package inserts for both products, and are identical:

Each (Librax) (Chlordiazepoxide HCl/Clidinium Bromide capsule contains) 5 mg chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride and 2.5 mg clidinium bromide. Each capsule also contains corn starch, lactose and talc. Gelatin capsule shells may contain methyl and propyl parabens and potassium sorbate, with the following dye systems: D&C Yellow No. 10 and either FD&C Blue No. 1 or FD&C Green No. 3.

The only difference is brand claims to be a green capsule while generic claims to be a light green opaque capsule. Take a look if you'd like.

The pharmacist said she'd give me a package insert from the River's Edge one to check out ingredients and manufacturer if I want. Meanwhile, I had them order the Oceanside for me and it will be in tomorrow afternoon. Whew, it shouldn't be this difficult to feel better! It's no joke when the say you have to be your own health advocate.

Hmm, I was on the yellow pill on and off over the last year and a half. I was getting it filled from the Walgreen Mail Order program on my insurance. At first I got green ones then I would get a supply of yellow, then back to green and then yellow again. Most recent I was on it almost 3 mos. As soon as I found out they could not fill the prescription I had to get it filled locally and discovered this forum I started taking the Oceanside as soon as I got them and threw the rest of the yellow ones away. The Oceanside brand has been a true blessing! I got it from my Hy-Vee Pharmacy.
LMac, I hope you have success getting the right brand that will work for you. Your experience with the FDA is quite interesting and eye opening! You would like to think there is more control over the drugs, how sad:(

lol, I had to laugh at the mention of owning a drug company in your next life~ This experience certainly is a great example of what a profitable endeavor that could be. ^^;

I am so sorry that you've been exposed to this drug. Knowing that you already have issues with anxiety and a fear of pills I can only imagine how you must feel reading all this. Although prior to all this I didn't really have an intense fear of pills, I now know well how crippling anxiety mixed with a fear of drugs can be. This really has been a horrible and frightening experience. I am just so glad that you were smart enough to research this.

I really do not believe that Watson has anything to do with this drug. Even without checking I am positive that River's Edge was the only manufacturer listed, but since I took pictures of the insert and bottle when this happened I can confirm that the only company named is River's Edge. Also, if you search the NDC number on Google a HIPPA page will show up; it lists River's Edge as the manufacturer. Why the FDA would claim another company is behind it baffles me, as does Watson being unable to give a firm answer as to if they do or don't produce the drug anymore, but prior to reading your post this morning I had never heard of Watson. Since you've basically confirmed that the same company that produces Librax also produces the Oceanside generic I could almost be convinced that Watson/River's Edge is in a similar situation, but something doesn't feel right about that. Unless Watson is aware that River's Edge is trouble there would be no reason for them to avoid the question the way they did.

I am really glad to hear that your pharmacy is willing to exchange the medicine for you. I hope that you get that taken care of in a timely fashion since skipping many doses would likely result in the same thing I experienced while taking the yellow pill. Although it seems ridiculous, I've also come across the same confusion about stores randomly insisting (and then denying) that River's Edge is the only brand they'll be carrying. My pharmacy has to special order the Oceanside pill for me, but after explaining my situation they kindly added a note into my file that my script should only be filled using Oceanside, so now I don't have to get into too many confusing details when trying to refill.

I honestly didn't think my malaise about this whole thing could get much worse, but the run around you have been getting -directly from the FDA no less- is extremely unnerving. I had no idea that prescription drugs were this out of control.

My goodness, this has been so traumatic for you. It's so scary, I know, being someone who takes drugs as a last resort. I'm terrified of side effects...and I already suffer from panic disorder...so I surely couldn't deal with that happening. I have a probably abnormal fear of all drugs now after suddenly going into anaphylactic shock from amoxicillin after taking it my whole life when needed, so I totally understand your fear.

I've not heard from River's Edge yet...surprise, surprise. I called my pharmacy and they are willing to let me return the drugs and give my script back or order the Oceanside. Ironically, this is a grocery store chain pharmacy and the store I usually use said it can no longer get the River's Edge...it's off their list for reordering...but can get the Oceanside and that's what they'll carry from now on when their current supply runs out. A second store, where I got this latest script filled (since I was already there, why drive across town, right?) said the exact opposite, that they'll only carry River's Edge, which is the preferred brand for this chain, but the Oceanside could be special ordered. I asked if the chain of stores are uniform in their manufacturers and they said yes, so clearly one is wrong and I'm not sure which one. Even among the same chain, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing

I also called Watson, since this yellow pill doesn't appear on their website's list of drugs, so waiting to hear back on if they really do make this pill or not. I've been on the phone all day lol....I called Oceanside too, and guess who answered the phone? Valeant, who makes the brand name Librax. I asked why do I get you when I call Oceanside, she says they acquired them. Since someone mentioned previously that the markings were the same as the brand name, I'm thinking it's oh so possible it's a remarket of the brand. My pharmacist said companies do this, they put out a generic of their brand and remarket it, therefore double-dipping on the profits from both brand and generic. I'm owning a drug company in my next life, I swear!

Ok, Watson just called while I was writing this and he cannot confirm they make this drug, even after giving him the NDC number, and told me to try to get my hands on the product insert which will state the manufacturer. He said they did at one time make it, but he's not sure about now. Hello...I just got it filled 4 days ago, the FDA says you make it, you work there, how can you not know? This is exasperating and scary!

Pinkcat, I am glad that we can help all each other to understand what's going on a little bit better. I'm especially relieved to know that I am not the only one who is on this largely because it treats two problems at once. Nothing I tried specifically for my stomach did anything at all, but this medicine has (until recently) been nothing short of a miracle.

I am really glad to hear that you are doing better now that you're on the Oceanside pill and that you're quickly recovering from your brush with River's Edge. I am curious, how long were you on the yellow pill?? I am still pretty lost as to why my reaction was so severe but I'm glad that it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem. The amount of people it seems to not work for is unacceptable enough without the effects being as severe as my experience was. I honestly hate to think of what could happen to people who never piece this nightmare together.

As for the name brand of this drug, I'm torn about if I'd go after it. On the positive side it's been around for so long it's not likely to be discontinued, but trusting that you will always be able to have it covered by insurance seems like a very risky bet. I'd be really scared to go from "the real thing" to a generic, though honestly at this point I'm scared to go between any brands.

Hmm, Thanks for your honest and open description of your symptoms. It is comforting to know that others have similar symptoms that I have had over the years. Alot of your symptoms were ones that I was having before I was put on the medicine in the beginning. I was only about 20 when I started having horrible panic attacks with my heart racing and feeling like I was going to pass out. I was in and out of hospital with heart monitors and got to the point I didn't want to drive or go anywhere. It took several months to find the right doctor that had the solution which was the Librax due to a spastic colon (now known as IBS). This is the only medicine I have found to be effective for the panic attacks as well as the stomach issues. At times throughout the past 25 years I have had times where the panic attacks returned but now as I reflect it was when I had to take various generic forms. I am fortunate to not have had as severe reactions as you to the yellow pill but it definitely was the worst generic to date. I had not put it all together until I read your last post but have been having trouble with the panic attacks and depression but since taking the Oceanside these symptoms are almost gone! I have been taking the Oceanside now for about a week and it seems to be working very well.
LMac, I don't want to tell you not to take the yellow pill but if you can find a better generic I would. If you can get the namebrand that would be good news for you! It worked the best for me but the insurance I have currently won't cover it but am finding the Oceanside generic is working well. Hope it works out well for you and look forward to updates. I agree this forum has been very helpful & comforting.

LMac, I am glad that you were smart enough to do your research on the pill rather than just taking it without a second thought, as I did. I think you're right that the effects of the pill vary heavily between people, so I linger somewhere between feeling guilty for frightening you out of trying it and relieved that you were smart enough to look into this before they caused you any trouble.

I have yet to see anyone have as negative of a reaction as I did, and hope I never do, but since my experience traumatized so much that I still haven't managed to shake free of the terror it's a little difficult to say I recommend giving the pill a chance. It seems to me that the pill itself doesn't cause problems (at least until taken long enough to develop dependence) it just doesn't do anything to help them, which can cause a recurrence of symptoms or, if you should be as unlucky as I was, withdrawal symptoms from the benzodiazepine in the medication.

I filed a complaint with the FDA (online) against River's Edge after all this happened and received a reply about a month ago. I had checked a box saying I didn't want my contact information given to River's Edge, so the FDA contacted me to tell me that River's Edge was interested in getting more information and a sample of the pill from me. They gave me the contact information for River's Edge and I wrote then immediately, explaining that I was willing to cooperate any way I could to stop this from happening to anyone else. They never wrote me back. There is nothing that can make me ever trust this company.

That said I am very glad that you shared the things you found out via the FDA and would be curious how/if Rivers Edge responds to you. To me it seemed like there were an awful lot of complaints and lawsuits against River's Edge in comparison to other companies. It does make sense to me that it's not rare for companies to have to deal with the FDA, but the complaints filed against River's Edge all appeared of a very similar nature; sub-par and irregular production. I suppose your update might warrant some investigation into Watson as well, but my experience alone was enough to make me avoid River's Edge for life.

I am not sure if your pharmacy would be willing to work with you if you decided to return the medicine. Under normal circumstances I don't think they would but I think it's worth a shot. If your pharmacy did not inform you that the manufacturer had been changed prior to giving you the pills then you have a good chance of being able to return them. They are supposed to warn you of changes like that since people can have different reactions to different formulations. Walgreen's had not warned me and upon understanding the severity of my reaction were very quick to refund my money to avoid any legal action on my part.

It's been over 3 months and I'm still not fully back to normal. My doctor had warned me that over time I would develop a tolerance to the medicine so, being aware (or so I thought) of the dangers of benzodiazepines, I went out of my way to take as small a dose as possible. For my first year on the pill (the entire time prior to switching to River's Edge) I only took 1 a day and it had an incredible impact on my health; I went from 87 pounds back up to a healthy human weight. When I started noticing that my stomach was acting up again (while I was on the yellow pill) I tried increasing my dose, thinking that perhaps the ratio of the medicine that helped was different and taking more might fix things, but it never did. I just got worse no matter how much of the yellow pill I took. Because the medicine has a long half life the reaction to switching got worse as time went on and when I finally made the switch back to Breckenridge it wasn't an instant cure. It took a few days to build back up, but I didn't understand that and again was trying to take more to compensate. As a result I was taking 3 a day (my prescribed dosage) but still didn't quite feel right. For a long time I was convinced I was suffering withdrawal from the yellow pill, but I can't be sure of that. It's now been over 3 months and I'm still trying to ween myself back down to even just 2 a day. This has been hard and may just not be possible. Depression, panic attacks and severe stomach cramps still linger to this day, but are nothing compared to what I went through in the time I was taking the yellow pill.

The entire thing is honestly still surreal to me and the fact that no one else seems to have had as intense of a reaction makes me feel insane, but I am still horrified to think what may have happened to me if I hadn't found this forum.

The yellow pill may work for you, although the suggestion that you had such a strong reaction to the Qualitest version (which I've never tried myself) makes me think that you're also quite sensitive to the benzo portion of this drug. Since the benzodiazepine is, without a doubt, the core of every problem I've had this year I would be very careful if I were you.

Ultimately I think you've done the best thing you could by educating yourself online and contacting the FDA. If you end up unable to get the medication filled by a more reliable company, and find the River's Edge pill your only option for the time being, then you should probably take it, rather than skipping doses, but monitor your reaction VERY closely. If you start having the problems that you were prescribed the pill for again, any unusual difficulty breathing, panic attacks, abnormal depression or anything else that strikes you as out of the ordinary don't wait for it to get worse.

My first symptom was that it felt "cold" when I would breathe, which I initially dismissed as me coming down with a cold. When my stomach problems came back I didn't even consider that it might be related to the cold air. (Would anyone?) Then I started having trouble sleeping, so I started taking benadryl/simply sleep to help. I noticed, when I did that, that the "cold air" feeling would go away, but as soon as it wore off it was worse than ever. That eventually led to severe panic attacks that made it almost impossible to breathe. I felt depressed, but under the circumstances I still didn't feel like everything was connected. Panic attacks seemed like a reasonable trigger for depression. I continued to try and fight it on my own with the benadryl, but I could never sleep which left me in a constant loop of terror.

Finally one Sunday morning I realized I couldn't keep fighting it on my own, but I didn't want to frighten my family or go to ER so I wanted to try and wait until Monday to get in to see my normal doctor. My terror was at it's peak and I tried to search (online) for a way to stop myself from hyperventilating. I stumbled across some yoga breathing techniques that, to my shock, actually helped, but much like the benadryl they only worked as long as I kept them up. I started searching online for what might be causing the "cold air" problem, which was still the main problem to me. In my mind if I could breathe without it being cold then I wouldn't be having panic attacks so severe that I couldn't breathe. I thought perhaps I had pneumonia. I was completely clueless. After a long string of panic laced searching I found this forum and instantly everything clicked. I was still so terrified, I'm not sure I'll ever forget that feeling, but I was so relieved to finally understand.

I apologize for the extremely detailed account of my situation, part of me just needs to try and tell the story to get it out of my system and another part is desperate to make sure no one else mistakes their symptoms for something trivial. In my last 24 hours of not understanding what was happening to me I started having muscle spasms in areas I'd never experienced them before, strange body parts feeling tingly -like when your foot falls asleep-, began vomiting and sweating like crazy and was dizzy even when laying down. I think it's very likely that I would have had a seizure if I'd tried to control it on my own any longer than I did. It goes without saying that it was one of the most frightening experiences I've ever had. Clearly I handled the whole thing foolishly, I should have gone to the doctor as soon as things started to go wrong, but since I had absolutely no idea that generics were not all identical I honestly didn't know how to present the situation. It's very possible that even if I had gone to the ER I would have been misdiagnosed, because I would not have thought to mention the pill.

Again, the whole thing honestly remains petrifying to me, but I do not know of anyone else who went through this and have to assume that the yellow pill works for some people. The only advice I can make to you or anyone else reading this is to be very aware of your health, mental and physical, when switching to a new manufacturer of this drug; especially if that pill is manufactured by River's Edge.

I hope going in to all of this informed will offer you some insight I didn't have. I look forward to hearing how the situation resolves for you. I will be wishing you all the best, good luck!!!

I have to jump in here because I just picked up a new bottle of generic Librax to find yellow pills. I was surprised, which caused me to do a search to make sure they were the correct pills (late at night, nobody to call). After reading the posts here, I was afraid to take the pills...not to mention the multitude of lawsuits that come up on a search of the company. This morning, I called River's Edge to ask about this bio-equivalence disclaimer mentioned here, since their website is under construction so I can't see it myself, and someone is supposed to call me back.

Meanwhile, I called the FDA and after giving the numbers on the bottle was told that indeed River's Edge is just a distributor and these yellow pills are made by Watson Pharmaceuticals. I was assured by the FDA that River's Edge is fully inspected and licensed, all drug companies have warning letters which means the FDA is doing their job, etc. I also asked about Oceanside being the only authorized generic of Librax and was told that isn't true. None of this negates the negative effects some of you have had from the yellow pills, so I guess it's a ymmv on generics.

Big sigh...now I don't know what to do or what to take, but you all put the fear of God in me to take the River's Edge one lol so I just sit and wait. The last generic I had was Qualitest and I had to dump half the capsule out before taking it or I got so dizzy and loopy I couldn't function. CVS does have the Oceanside fyi but I'm not sure if my pharmacy will take these back and give my script back to me. Another pharmacy said they can order one from Boca (sp) or similar sounding name. I'm thinking try to get a pre-auth for the name brand and call it a day.

I'll let you know if River's Edge calls and has anything interesting to say.

The price jump might explain Wal-Mart no longer carrying it and the unusual reactions I was getting from Kroger. I am extremely curious how you will react to the Ascend version, I can not say that I have tried it but am so fearful of any future changes that I really would love any kind of information you might be able to share.
Have you been having any trouble with the Oceanside version?

Pinkcat, everything you have been through with this medicine sounds horrifying, but makes sense as even though I've been on it only a year I've seen some strange reactions from doctors in regards to being prescribed it. I've also tried Levisin and several other medications that were entirely ineffective. Though I can't deny my fear of this medicine after my last few months, I still can't forget how much my life has improved since I was started on it. I am glad to know what you have been through and sincerely hopes that you find good luck with the Oceanside generic. It sounds hopeful based on Barbie's update!

I have only been taking the Oceanside for a couple of days but think it is much better then the yellow pill. Hmm, the original Librax works the best and I had it for quite a while before the generic came out. The first generic (I don't know what brand, at that time I was clueless that they were different brands!) was a night mare and I told the doctor and he wrote the RX with the note to not sub the generic. That was great until the insurance company said I had to try at least 3 other drugs before they would continue to pay for the name brand. At that time I was seeing a different doctor then the one who originally prescribed it and tried me on different meds, one I know was Levisin, that was a joke. I had to gradually taper off the Librax and was a mess the entire time I was off it. She finally agreed to put me back on the Librax with the name brand. But then you know when the company you work for changes insurance companys you have to start all over again! I had a worthless doctor for a while that thought I was crazy for needing the name brand so was forced back to the generic which then didn't seem as bad as the first time. Both times they were the green capsules. Just in the last couple of years did I start to see the yellow ones and they don't work well at all! So I am so happy to find green ones again and hope they keep making them. Barbie, I hope the new ones will work for you! You wonder how these all get on the market when they are not approved by FDA, scary! Thanks for the updates and wish you all well.
