Lasix Side Effects

My doctor raised my lasix from 12.5 to 40 than raised my atenolol to 2 times a day along with my other meds, now my back hurts both sides by my kidneys, stomach and legs hurting, along with a headache. No appetite, just real thirsty. I have chf hpb, neropothy,diabetes

Hi, Tim! Sorry about the problems that you're having.

Those might be symptoms of dehydration, so the higher dosage of the Lasix could be too much for you. It contains the active ingredient Furosemide, which is a loop diuretic that's used to remove excess fluid from the body, but if you aren't taking in enough, or if it is removing too much, dehydration can occur.

How much fluid do you take in each day?

With the CHF, are you on fluid restriction?

Unless your doctor has given you a specific directive to take in less, you should take in at least 64ounces daily, which doesn't include anything caffeinated or alcoholic.

Have you consulted your doctor? They are the only person that can actually let you know if it is due to dehydration, but there's a good chance that it is.

When managing CHF, it's important to keep the fluids in the body under control, but it is a very delicate balancing act.
