Is It Doctor Shopping If I Go To One For My Suboxone And Another Prescribed Me Temazepam
UpdatedAny advice on this situation; the doctor that prescribed my suboxone and the other doctor is a family friend that I went to because I told him I was having a lot of trouble sleeping at night so he prescribed me temazepam? Now I am worried this might be considered dr. Shopping

Hello, Frank! How are you?
Doctor shopping is generally considered to be someone's seeing multiple doctors to get multiple prescriptions for the same drugs, say for instance if you were seeing 2 different doctors to get a prescription for the Temazepam from each. It's not generally considered doctor shopping if you see several different doctors for different issues and are prescribed different things.
Seeing different doctors for different things is actually what the DEA has been pushing to have people do, since it helps ensure that people are properly diagnosed and not overly or improperly medicated, as sometimes happens when general practitioners try to handle medical issues that they aren't really well educated about.
The only problem you may run into is if you have an agreement with your Suboxone doctor to not get medications from any other doctors, especially since the Temazepam is a benzodiazepine, these are considered controlled substances, since they can be habit forming and are very commonly abused.

The best thing to do would be to make sure both doctors are informed.
Is there anything else I can help with?
That would be considered "doctor shopping" by every doc and pharmacist I know — but you cpu;d FLLOW THE ETTER OF THE LAW AND TEL DR. A. THAT DR. B PRESCRIBED RESTORIL 3OMG AND YOUV'E BEEN TAKING ONE AT BEDTIME FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS (or taking it two or three times/week). DITTO WITH THE INFO YOU PROVIDE DR B. you follow the LETTER of the law and each doc, Unless you send a fax or a letter, make sure you speak to the doc himself. N big deal!

If you are being prescribed suboxone then it must be for opiate addiction. Temazepam has a high addiction rate and one can become addicted in as little time as one week even taking it as directed. I would advise you to discontinue the Temazepam, you already have one addiction and dont need another even worse one. If you've been on it for any length of time you should only discontinue under a doctors supervision on a tapering schedule.
I am rx'd suboxone for PAIN control, xhronic due to MVA 1999. I do not have an addiction issue BUT I am dependant and tolerant due to having ben on prescription opiod meds for 12 years prior to being placed on suboxone 6 yrs ago.. Subs are a partial antagonist thus very poor analgesics. BC of the current state of opiod policing, I can not find a medical licenced doctor willing to prescribe a pure opiate agonist for my pain issues.
