Inactive Ingredients Alfuzosin (Top voted first)

I was recently switched from Alfuzosin Hydrochloride produced by Sun to one produced by Apotex. The only difference was the inactive ingredients.

After the switch, I experienced two back-to-back episodes of severe dizziness and prolonged headaches after heavy exercise. I never experienced this severity during many years on the Sun product.

I am wondering if there is are any active ingredients in the Apotex product which could have caused this - Dibasic Calcium Phosphate, Polyvinyl acetate phthalate, or Ferric Oxide Yellow. The other ingredients are the same.

One of them could have caused it, if you're sensitive to it. However, you should have this checked out, to be sure of the cause.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, fatigue, dizziness, headache and stomach pain.

It does also warn that exercise and overheating can cause severe dizziness, when taking this medication. Did you increase your workout those days? Was it hotter than usual?

Are you taking any other medications?

The problem is that all Alfuzosin brands have those same potential side effects listed. But I took the Sun product for years and worked out in many different temperatures, exercise intensity levels, etc. and never had significant issues.

I am focused on the inactive ingredients but have not found anything to indicate that any one of the ingredients in the Apotex product would be MORE likely to cause this reaction than those in the Sun product (the active ingredients are the same in all of these Alfuzosin products). If I could find that, I would then try to select another generic that did not have those inactive ingredients. Unfortunately, the Sun product is not available so I cannot go back to that.

I should add that I am not even sure yet that the switch in medicine caused this. It is only a hypothesis. Further complicating things: it was hot, it was during the morning so less hydrated, and it was a hard workout. But the reaction was severe - and scary.

I have since ruled out diabetes, heart problems, and blood pressure issues. So I am down to it being the medicine switch or something even worse than the above options.
