How Long Does It Take Gabapentin To Get Out Of Your System (Page 5)

I was taking 300 mg neurontin. 1 in am, 1 at noon and 2 at bedtime. I was prescribed the med in May of 2013. Increased later when not helping with foot numbness. It has been almost 2 weeks since i tapered myself off of the drug and i still feel nausea in the am which affects my eating. Please advise how long it will take this med to be out of my system? Thank you.

I stopped taking this med when I got a very bad cold and started taking other cold medicines and didn't want to have interactions. Within days I started to feel awful anxiety and didn't understand why. I couldn't sleep and I just wanted to die. I then came on this blog and understood what was happening to me! I've being off the meds now for 2 weeks and after reading all the comments will not be taking it again. Thank you all for sharing and helping me understand

This med gaba. Is truly living hell. Was taking 2-3 tablets at night for months sleeper good at night and taking prednisone during the day I would go from high to low side effects ranged anxiety. Crying obsessive bizarre anger thoughts depression wanted to be alone hated those closest to me doc says to wean off of it but I can't take. The hell stopped cold turkey. Cold sweats tremors weakness brain. Zaps and all sorts. Of weird side effects from when I was on it to also coming off of it. been 7-8 days off it and I still don't feel normal yet. I hope it doesn't take months. I just want to be normal again. someone called this drug Demonic and Hell which is exactly right. if this drug helps your nerve pain and ya don't have side effects then God bless. I will never take this drug again. My doc increased pain meds and hope the insurance will approve my steroids shots. If doc prescribe gaba don't even try it. It's hell just want to fell normal again!!!

I have an unusual question about gabapentin. I was given the 800mg pills to take, 2 pills 3 times per day. Well, I got confused and started taking 2 extra pills every day which meant I was up to 6400mgs/day. My doctor told me to taper down to get back to the original dose which was 4800mgs/day. It was AWFUL, I felt so anxious all the time, but I FINALLY made it back to the 4800mgs/day (which is 1200mgs more than the recommended dose!) My question is, it seems like I cannot get out of bed in the morning. I've slept through appointments with my therapist, meeting up with old (or new) friends - I've NEVER been like this! Well a friend of mine who is a psychiatric nurse said it could be caused by the reduction in gabapentin. I have paradoxical reactions to many drugs - and I really like gaba because now that I'm back on the "recommended" dose for ME, I feel much better except for this darn sleeping thing. She said my circadian rhythm has reversed meaning I'd rather be up all night, if I could just wake up by 2 or 3 in the afternoon, but there is no alarm clock made that can guarantee to wake me up! Has anyone else had this problem? Do you know how long it will last? HELP!!!

You're clearly not prescribed this many. You're taking them to feel high. You're clearly an addict and shouldn't be judging anyone here. Seek medical and mental health treatment!

I was prescribed Gabapentin for nuropathy pain. Started with 100mg X 3 per day. Noticed very stuffy nose, hacking cough, blurred vision. It was upped to 300mg X 3 per day and the side effects increase X 3. Congestion, cough, blurred vision became ridiculous, adding anxiety and insomnia. PC doctor treated effects like allergies, and tapered back to 100mg X 3 weaning to 0 per. Neuropathy went WAY UP! After 4 days began to see decrease in side effects but they were never completely gone even after several weeks! The Gabapentin helped but the side effects out weighted any benefit! Time for something new!

Hi there I felt the same too coming off Gaba . I was on 1400mg four times a day and over time went down to 300 x 3 a day then the same as you 100 down and then off . It has now been 8 days and I feel terrible . Sweating and coughing and my chest feels ratterly and nausea too. I thought I was going to feel great but I don't . Hopefully soon I will.
Good luck to everyone who's coming off or come of these meds or any meds . Let us hope for a pain free world.

I've been weaning my way off this neurontin since 2/2015. I feel better but I still feel like a stranger in my own head, just does not feel right. Just always know it's gonna get better. It took a while for us to get like this and it's gonna take a while for us to feel like our self. One guy said it took him a year to get back right, so we are going to have to be patient on this trip ride.

I agree. I was given this medication for my back pain. I was taking it at bedtime for about a month. I also had to stop taking it. I've had terrible headaches and my head just doesn't feel right. I can't wait for this to clear out of my system. Only been a few days since I stopped taking it and I'm still feeling the effects. I can't wait to feel normal again.

Diana, I hope you are doing as well as possible. yes I'm still tapering off this med, I'm also taking lexapro it really helps a lot with all of the withdrawal systems that comes with neurontin, now I have to withdraw from this drug, that should be fun too. I'm gonna stay on the 600mg a day of neurontin til December and then go down to 550 I'm gonna go very slow because this is a very angry drug. I'm not jerking as much, the crying went a way thanks to the lexapro so that's cool,,but I'm still walking around in this fog, hope it's not the norm now. I'm also Vegan and that helps a lot. I'm really looking forward to that day when we are free from these meds. I'm back in the Gym and that's helps a lot. If the antidepressants starts to help a little bit, start moving your body as soon as you start feeling better, and start sweating the meds out and then take a magnesium bath it seems to help with these crazy withdrawals. What a ride and I can't wait to get off never felt like this, but just know it will get better just gonna take a while that's all. It's war and you have to fight. Hope this helped a little. I'm really going to be praying for you Diana. Hey God, Please remove these spirits of sickness from our bodies, put them some place else. Lets stay in contact.

MomzOr, How could you start On 50mg. They only come in 100 mg cap. Are you sure your talking about the same medication?

Yikes, you cannot start on a dose of 800mg! You should start on 50mg. No wonder you are so out of it. The dose should be increased very gradually. I used to feel a bit out of it on 75mg, but now take 150mg in the morning and 150mg at night, and I am fine. It is the ONLY thing that helps for my diabetic pain.

Hi Diana and thanks, I'm really sorry you're going through this. God bless you. No Im still on this drug I've been tapering off it since 2/2015. My doc put me on lexapro to help with the depression and those crazy crying spells now I have 2 drugs to withdraw from. Im only taking 1200mg of neurontin a day now but I'm still walking around in this crazy fog, and sometime I don't know what is real. It is mind blowing. I'm still taking magnesium bath, that helps. I heard it take some people 1 year to begin to feel better from this very evil drug, so I'm going to just be patient and try not to fight this process because darkness has an ending. Thanks for sharing, it was helpful. And may God keep you here with us and lets stay in touch

Allen ~ I assume your off GABA by now!! Maybe this will help someone else.
Yes, I had crying, major mood spikes, major irritability, can't sleep, feel manic, nausea..... I was taking for MS. 12 years on Neurotin. They started me on 3000mg daily!!!! Yup you heard right!!
I've since been told it should never be prescribed over 4000mg daily. I am a small frame person.
I became suicidal. That's all I thought about 24-7!!
After several months I finally got into a MS clinic at a major University in my area. The new Neuro lowered the dose!!! So I went down to 1200mg daily for 9-1/2 years. I am now on 600mg daily. It has stopped having any effect for me. I actually started today July 13, 2015 going off of it.
DO NOT go off cold turkey. Tapper the dose slowly. Your doctor can help with that!!! It helps with the sides effects not being as bad, plus you can have seizures.
I will admit the med was helping after taking the lower amount for sensory issues with the MS and some with the Fibromyalgia. Stats show it only helps around 10% of people with Fibro. I wouldn't try it with those low odds!! This is a older drug, and has its place for "some" people. Go on very slow dose to start, and as low amount as possible if anyone decides to use it. Remember everyone reacts differently to drugs etc.... With 2-diseases with no cure in site I feel like a genie pig and a some doc's love throwing drugs at people!!
Blessings to all ~ whatever path you may be traveling!

Sounds like you may be having symptoms of anxiety. A side affect that can happen when you stop taking gabapentin suddenly. I would consult your dr. About a possible short term antianxiety med as you get used to being off the drug

Wow,I feel so stupid for thinking that Gabapenten was not a strong medication. I take 20mg Celexa and have been work working my way down slowly to 15mg then 10mg but,had been
Also taking Gabapenten 600mg twice a day, then went down to 300mg twice daily. In the meantime I've been adding in a quality Vitamin D,L-Tryptophan& easily digestible Magnesium,Vitamin C &Co-Q10&Tumeric. I'm really having even more Depression&Mood swings than usual. Like many I suffer from
Fibro,Lupus and Chronic Fatigue syndrome. I'm frustrated with all the side effects from taking the meds and trying to wean off them as well. Any suggestions would be great. It's sad to me that drs are reluctant to prescribe Soma anymore as they really worked for my muscle spasms&I only took them a 2-3 times a week

If u have restless leg syndrome go to walgreens. They sell leg cramp pills. It is for baby's for growing pains, no side effects. They work. I keep a bottle of them. Sometime I wake up because my legs hurt. I call them crazy legs. They just want to run away and I take two to four and twenty minutes later I'm back to sleep with no side effects.

Maybe you were taking too much of it? What kind of effects was it having because you said you would never take it again? It saved me. I had pinched nerves or something and it worked miracles for me.
