It can take up to six days for the medication to completely leave your system...but the rate at which it decays out of your body depends on many factors. Everyone is different. This is a long acting benzo, unlike it's cousin Xanax, which is short acting and leaves the body much faster. I'm a chemist and everyone is always asking me how to pass a drug test...what can they do...on and on. The only thing I can tell them is DON'T TAKE THE DRUGS!!! GC/Mass Spec can detect ppt. That's parts per trillion. What does that mean in terms the average person can understand? Imagine an apple floating in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and THAT'S that ppt is. Bottom line is that if they use this detection method they WILL find it. I used to take Xanax then asked to be switched to clonazepam because it's side effects are much less dramatic. Xanax made me feel like I was having an out-of-body experience and I always felt like I was in a fog. Xanax is a really bad med which has been way over prescribed. Those are the reasons why I decided to switch. I was taking 0.5 mg 2X/day of clonazepam. I had an appointment with my doctor to talk about getting off the drug and, of course, it was cancelled due to an "emergency". So, I got mad, went home, flushed my meds down the commode and quit cold turkey. I also quit Ambien, at the same time...also cold turkey. Withdrawal is not pleasant and I had a very rough go of it. However, I'm doing just fine now and wonder why I was even taking those meds to begin with. I don't recommend what I did to anyone who's on a higher dose of clonazepam. You can have seizures, strokes and many other horrible things happen to your body...up to and including death. Talk to your doctor in order to titrate off the medication safely. And as a final note...PLEASE DON'T START TAKING THESE MEDS if you don't have to. They're nasty, addictive and cause harm to your body. If you do need them for a short time, that's one thing...but I do NOT recommend long term use. Good luck.

Hello, I have been taking klonopin for only the last 2 months...my doctor told me to go off of it a month ago Bc I am currently on Xanax and he felt that being on the two was dangerous but I was scared that I'd withdrawal from it and just a few days ago I finally stopped it altogether. I have a drug test with that Doctor who prescribes me the Xanax on August 3rd, 2016 and the klonopin had been prescribed by another doctor and he just didn't want me on it anymore...he only wants me on my Xanax in which he prescribes, not the other doctor who had me on the klonopin....will from now till the 3rd be enough time for the klonopin to leave my system Bc he does not want to see it in there? Scared I will test positive for it anyway...

Well this doctor needs to be reported! You should NEVER quit any kind of medication cold turkey, EVER. I know a lot about medications for I have worked in a pharmacy for 15 years. Do not ever let a doctor tell you that you can get off of a medication cold turkey, you should always taper off a medication whether it be a depression pill or anxiety pill. Always taper!

thank you to those of you who verified me feeling as I should, which is to report this Dr and find a the pychiatrist. I am going to the hospital soon because even after a week, the xanax has not stopped my heart rate from being between 100 - 130 bpm. i knew a dr could not in his rightful mind tell me everything would be just fine after dropping me clompetely from seven years of a very addictive medicine (needed or not). i should have been TAPERED.

and i hope the best for all the rest of you...and that your dr's had the good sense to do it the right way!

Maybe try 1.75 instead of cutting it by .5 That way its not as drastic of a change

Hey there, actually if you look up the info on klonopin you will read about the withdrawal symptoms and I had them all including seizures. I have severe generalized and social anxiety disorder so yes I too am always in a state of high anxiety without meds. I did years of therapy and they tried me on all sorts of drugs eight years ago. I hated xanax, it just didn't work with my body, klonopin was the only thing that made me feel "normal" and able to function in everyday life, drive, work, talk to people. I wish I'd never developed it but it runs in the family on my mothers side and all the females have some sort and severity of it. But once it got triggered it never went away and they told me the only real cure was therapy, but that didn't even work for me. I'll be on meds fit the rest of my life and I hate it.

if you are a chronic smoker meaning you get high at least once daily. It can take anywhere from 30 days to 2 months. depending on your body weight. thc stores itself in fat cells. if you only smoked once and your adverage weight, it should be gone in about 18-23 days. keep hydrated w/water. don't buy that crap from the head shops that claim to take it out of your urine, they really dont always work. i know from experience. they worked about 70% of the time

wow. I'm very surprised that you have not had worse withdrawal symptoms being off it for five days. I was on 6mg for seven years and they hit me hardcore the day after I was taken off them. I understand that they are dangerous for an unborn baby, and doctors do not like to have you on those meds but my doctor told me that in rare cases they have to do a stress risk vs meds risk or something like that to see if you have to continue taking them because stress can become just as harmful for the baby AND you during pregnancy.

On a side note, I have still been going through withdrawals to date after weeks and still on the xanax. I also had two seizures two days ago and ended up in the ER. First time in my life and the dr told me that it was def due to my dr dropping me straight off my klonopins and that he should in no way have done that and tapered me. I have one week until i go to the dr to get back on my klonopin and I am not letting someone do that to me again. My son found me convulsing. He thought I was dying. I, of course, remember nothing of it until I awoke in the hospital, but I cannot imagine the absolute terror that my fifteen year who i have raised all his life alone must have been feeling and going through. Once back on my meds and able to leave my house, drive and such, as I haven't been able to this entire time, I am looking into reporting him and maybe even going so far as to find an attorney.

Good luck to you and if your symptoms get any worse you should definitely insist that your doctor talk with you about it more and if they are severe GO TO THE ER. you do not want to end up there unkowningly. And seizures are extremely dangerous. They can be fatal. If you are not around someone, no one finds you, you do make it to a doctor, etc....you don't know what will happen. Good luck to you and keep a record of your symptoms and try to write a detailed log of your days so that you have it for your doctor. Best wishes!

I too was on klonopin 2mg. 3 times a day for severe anxiety and panic disorder for over 10 years and my dr. took me off cold turkey. Now I have epilepsy due to the severe withdrawals that came with it. So now I have to take Depakote and Topomax for the rest of my life and I still have Grand Mal seizures due to all of his poor medical practice!! I am only 40 yrs. old and I have been going through this since 2004!!

I just got off of a 25-45mg a day habit after 4 years on the drug, 2 1/2 at the high end. I'm back down to 2mg per day. It took almost a full two weeks of not taking them, cold turkey, for them not to show up on a home, urine test. If you're young like me, under say 200lbs, and took 5 mg per day for 5 days, by the end of the third day, 90% chance it will be gone. Fluid intake, body fat %, amount taken and time taken can effect it. I can give you a solid answer if you give those details. Hope its not too late!

I started clonazepam (2mgs) on Jan 12. It took it for 2 days. Then I dropped to 1mg per day for a week, then .5 per day for a week then .375 per day. I am on my way to stopping this nasty stuff. I took it because of a very very bad panic and anxiety attack that lasted a month. How long after stoping this meds will it finally be out of my system?
