Updated

Just had Testopel pellets inserted in my backside. Forgot to ask doctor how long until they take effect. He's out of town.

Justin: To hopefully alleviate your fears, the prostate biopsy isn't all that bad. I had one three (3) years ago and the apprehension of what it 'might' be like was far-r-rrr worse that the procedure itself. You feel a bit of a "pinch" and hear a 'clicking sound' each time a sample is snipped. I had 28 different spots checked/snipped as Doc wanted to make sure that he covered the entire prostate.

Also -- PUH-leeze .............. be careful if you have any prostate infection. I had an ongoing one for over two years and finally pain in my testicle was so bad and debilitating that I had to have my testicle removed. All of this after being on every antibiotic possible over the 2 years with no results. So .................. if you EVER have a prostate infection, do everything possible to make sure you are addressing that problem aggressively as possible. I still have infections, but am hoping we will not have to remove remaining testicle.

Update! It's been just over a month and the pellets are doing alright. Have a semi most of the day which is a relief. A week ago I completely failed in the bedroom. After that you won't believe what triggered my first and stiffest erection in weeks. Marijuana. Yes, marijuana. My wife and I smoked after my stressful failure in bed. Within minutes of inhaling 3 times my lower body parts came back to life. I'm guessing that any large amount of testosterone is no match for my anxiety. I'm afraid to ask for anxiety pills since they kill any sexual desires. You feel a million bucks without sex and that's not what I want. For now I'll keep puffing away when I need it. SMH

Mike, i know you are using injections, and have been on here a while, others too, please comment
After going 2 months without being able to get my testopel, Dr. canceled my early june app, vacation, just got into to see him today. Anyway , I'm going to try the injections, give them myself, weekly. The compounding pharmacy, where I get my Test. cream, to use when I'm waiting for the Dr, by the way, is useless, for me anyway, I dropped down to 186, knew I felt bad, went online and ordered a test.. test.
Anyway, the pharmacy recommended I go to the shots. Said a lot cheaper, and if I give them to myself, weekly, will not experiance the surges and valleys that happen when you try to space the shots out longer.
Dr. says will some have more trouble with elevated red blood count, and was OK with it, but you could tell he wished I would stay on Testopel, more $$$.
So he gave me a shot today, how long for that to kick in? I assume faster than the pellets. He applogized for being unable to see me last month.
For info, I've done great on Testopel, my level was 150, when I first started , in march 2012. started with 10, then went to 12 pellets. Maintained in the 700-800 range. Only will last me about 3 to 3.5 months top. I'm 53, good shape, weight. Lost about 20 pounds, since I started . Gained 6-8 back these last 2 months. But the hassle of having to have 2 appointments, first a consult, then the implant. And the cost, I'm going to try the injections. I have read the posts about the Biote, by ginger.I called and talked to the closet place that does it, 165 miles. It's cheaper than Testopel, and was ready to try it, until I talked to the pharmacist. Still may take my wife there. No Dr's here will use Test therapy on women

James,
Do you mind telling what the pharmacist said that changed your mind about bioTE? And yes, many drs and pharmacists are unsure and hesitant about Testosterone therapy for women, even though their bodies produce it and need it, just not at the levels that men do. Women can start losing their T as early as mid-late 20's. I can look back and know by my symptoms, I had stopped producing T when I was around 34, and just assumed it was the aging process. Women produce T in their adrenals, but mostly at the center of their ovaries, and when a woman's ovaries begin to "die off" they die from the inside out. 165 miles sounds pretty far, but you should only have to have the procedure done twice a year. Your wife may need it up to 3 times though. I swear (although I may not look it), I feel 23 again! Also, keep in mind that we are training around 30-35 new practitioners each month, so hopefully there will eventually be one closer.

She didn't change my mind. I mentioned Biote, she, the pharmacist, had heard about it. Nothing bad to say at all. My decision was based on cost. The injections will cost me about $55.00 a month.
We'll see how it goes. I still plan on taking my wife there

Thx James, and if I can help in any way, let me know. Just be careful about "stacking" the injections...they should help relieve your symptoms and you have a better chance of getting your T to an optimal range. They don't provide the long term benefits that the Bioidentical pellets do, but you will need to weigh that decision out for yourself. And just as an FYI, BioTE provides paperwork for you to file for reimbursement for out of pocket from your insurance (if you have insurance) and some are paying 100% surprisingly....best wishes!

Have your estrogen checked - sounds like your testosterone has been transferred over to estrogen

I do not necessarily notice the 'kick in' anymore. Not sure I ever felt that surge that people talk about. I do 1 ml every 7 days...sometimes 8 if I forget. No issues what so ever. Last week I injected into my thigh for the first time, prior to that I was rotating between butt cheeks. 23gs 1.5" needle is what I normally use but for some reason my CVS cannot seem to get the 1.5" anymore so I am using the 1" needle. Still waiting for the generic T to be available again but for some reason I do not think that is going to happen.

I ran across an interesting post, old one, on another site. The book this guy wrote is worth reading. He was the inventer of Super beta Prostrate, sold it in 2011.
Research Chemist, is his trade. Click here for a link to the book, Testosterone is your Friend. Is on amazon as well.

I did get a big surge. The Dr. office injected 1ml. Probably felt the surge because my levels had dropped back to nothing. I picked up my test. cypionate Monday. But after reading this book, and e-mailing the author, till he told me to stop, that I was taking up all his time. I'm going to use the T I have as he talks about, not inject it. either sublingual, or with DSMO, one drop to the wrists daily. And check my levels, all levels , free t and DHEA as well, and see how I do.

they held up my previous post. Probably because I attached a link. The book I read was , Testosterone is your Friend, by Roger Mason. You can find it free online, or at Amazon, or local library. I'm not endorsing it all, yet, but very interesting read

Are you aware of a bill that is going to vote this week in Congress, S959...you might be interested in checking it out. May adversely affect our access to HRT as well as other compounded meds...

Yes, very important to check to see if T is being converted (a process known as aromatization). Simple blood test will tell. Typically adding a medication known as Arimidex corrects this. (Post from a physician)

Hi Ginger you stated "Yes, it is available at some health food/vitamin stores. Whole Foods carries it. You can also get it online. Just be sure that the DIM you get is micronized" I have just started on Testopel and do not want to experience any shrinkage and like the idea of freeing up additional T by using DIM. How do I determine how much of the DIM to take?

My doctor put me on Arimidex during my last insertion in February and that allowed me to go another 2 months before I needed another insertion. I uasually got refilled every four months but this time I went 6 months taking Arimidex 3-4 times a week. My doctor wanted me to take it daily and I think I will try that after my next insertion next week and see if I can stretch it out to 7 or 8 motnhs before my next refill.

Kyle, a good dose for men for DIM is 300-400mg a day. 300mg, should give you good results! Is your doctor monitoring your estrodial? You may need more than DIM if you are an aromatizer.

Ron, be careful that you don't run your estrogen down to low. High T and no E can lead to something similar to rood rage! It's important that your hormones are balanced, not just jacked up!

Ron, what dosage of Arimidex did your doctor prescribe?
