Fludrocortisone is a synthetic corticosteroid with moderate glucocorticoid potency and much greater mineralocorticoid potency.
It is used primarily to replace the missing hormone aldosterone in various forms of adrenal insufficiency such as Addison's disease and the classic salt wasting (21-hydroxylase deficiency) form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

I am being given fludrocort for slow heart beat. Is this a proper medicine for this problem.
They have given me this exact same drug: reasons as follows~my heart rate is beating extra beats, and I cannot take beta blockers at this time, due to my bp being too low therefore, enter the drug~fludrocort. It is intended to aid in my def of salt thus helping raise my bp, so that we can further proceed with necessecary steps needed to get my heart slowed to proper beats.
I have been diagnosed with Orthostatic Hypotension. Fludrocort 0.1MG has been prescribed. I take Bisoprol Fum 5MG for blood pressure. I also take Meclizine 25MG. How do these 3 medications interact?
My husband was diagnosed with PSVT and would take spells where his heart rate would sky rocket. His blood pressure, however, would run low (usually 100/60). He was prescribed a combination of Toprol (to lower his heart rate) and Florinef (to keep his blood pressure up). The combination seems to be working for him so far. He still has spells, but not nearly as often.
My husband has renal failure and congestive heart failure. He has been hospitalised for very low blood pressure recently. He is taking Midodrine, 5mg every six hrs which works if he is not moving around a lot. Today the Dr added Fludrocort, 0.1mg once a day. Can anyone tell me of their experiance with the 2 drugs together? Did it help, any side effects, etc... Thanks!
I take fludrocort for an irregular heart beat. I was told my heart beats almost twice as fast as it should and it has no rhythm. I also have iron deficiency anemia. My heart rate is usually around 110 and my blood pressure is usually close to 160/115. I used to randomly get really weak and dizzy and black out before the fludrocort. Now that I'm taking it I dont black out anymore but I still get weak and shaky and my heart rate and blood pressure haven't changed. I'm also tired all the time and have pretty much no energy, both before and after. Any suggestions?....
I'm taking fludrocort..sometimes it helps, sometimes not..since taking this, I crave foods I do not normally eat.. will this also make me gain weight?
It sounds like it could be adrenal insufficiency, which is what I have. I'm on fludrocort and hydrocortisone for it. Have your doctor check your cortisol levels.
