Epclusa Treatment Hep C Hearing Loss

Im sure epclusa caused hearing problems started with ears ringing then lost hearing in right ear dr prescibed predestone (steroid ) lucky for me hearing came back dr said i was very lucky, liver clinic nurse said epclusa would not cause it i think it did iv never had hearing problems ,id been taking epclusa for 7 days ,its a 3 mth treatment iv done 2 mths dont know if i shud risk doing the last mth im over 60 yrs old ,very hard to get liver clinic to respond or suggest anything. Please any ideas.???

Hello Lou,

I have been looking into epclusa but I haven't been able to find any reliable source that shows any connection between hearing issues and this medicine. While I couldn't find anything regarding a connection between epclusa and hearing I was able to find some studies that show there is a connection between hep c and acute hearing loss. This study from the National Institute of Health shows that there is a known increase to risk of sudden loss of hearing in patients who have the hepatitis virus. Hopefully there is some additional information in here that helps you make a decision on if you want to continue your treatment.

So it could possibly be that the medicine triggered something related to the hep c virus that caused the sudden loss of hearing or it could simply be a result of the virus itself. Either way I'm happy that you were able to recover your hearing and I hope that this problem doesn't happen again.

Have you ever tried to talk to somebody at Gilead about side effects ? I haven't come across too many drs who know anything about epclusa or harvoni except for what Gilead tells them.

Hi Kevin, i've only got 4 days to go. I just hope it worked. my hearing's ok now, thanks. I've had puffy feet for the last few days and dont know if it's from sudden hot weather, tx, or having emphasemia on top of hcv. Anyway, nearly finished. I just hope i go back to feeling myself again. Getting tired so easily is a pain and trying to remember to take meds hopefully will be worth it. I just wished they had checked my blood at least once to see if it was working. I'm geno 3 plus 65yrs old. Fibroscan still F2. Take care and good luck from aust.

Hi Lou here iv recently finished 12 weeks of epclusa ,i have to wait 12 weeks to see if my VL has gone which seems a long time to stress .my local dr gave me a blood test to see how my kidneys were going as my feet an ankles were puffing up ,on test results did not test VL but my alt ,ast were in normal range for first time in many yrs ,when i got home i had closer look at results and noticed my cholestral numbers had risen from 2.4 low to 5.0 ,does anyone know if this is normal ?im65yrs old fibroscore was F2 .

Hi Kevin, thanks for the reply. Since doing the treatment 6mths ago nearly IV had numb fingers anxiety muscle joint pain also nerve damage in vertabraes in neck, great it cured virus so far but I think they should monitor older patients before starting them on treatment, I felt so much better pre treatment. Now I feel my life is finished with nil support from liver clinic, not happy.

Hi Kevin,thanks for info ,it has been 9mths since I finished treatment inow have edema on feet legs numb fingers few toes also, exhausted constantly,,liver clinic no support at all , always same answer "never heard of that happening"I don't think enough study was done on this med especially on older patients ,all they have to do is look on line to see that a lot of people are coming down with gall, pancreas, numbness problems,I know of 7 please who did treatment in the last year already 3 are now seriously ill all were feeling ok pre treatment ,all liver clinic people can say is"oh it must have been from having hcv that caused it, I think the DAA.s damage other organs besides attacking virus,very disappointed with the support poste treatment ,

Thanx Kevin,I'm 3 yrs Poste treatment now things haven't improved now swollen saw numb feet maybe neuropathy sounds like it is connected to hcv apparently very painful,it's just annoying as I basically felt ok pre treatment ,thanks for info.
