Effects From Metal Poisoning Ie Recalled Hip
(Newest replies first)
Updated
My metal Hip replacement is on the recall list for Smith & Nephew for loosening & leeching metal / metal poisoning. The hip was recalled in 2012 but my health provider (Kaiser) Never notified me. I am now experiencing severe swelling & redness around my ankles & my feet & really all lower legs are painful & numb at the same time. Also getting sharp cramp like pain in front of upper legs. Are these symptoms of metal poisoning from Titanium? If not what causes this dibilataing type of pain. Kaiser keeps telling me my back is causing my symptoms but I do not agree. Sciatica always gets the back of my legs & my pain is in the front of my upper leg & all around swelling st the ankle. Is there a good test for titanium in the system? What about Chromium and/or Cobalt

I understand. I have not personally had a hip replacement, and I can only hope that I am fortunate enough to never need one. In the event that you need any additional information please let me know, best wishes to you and I hope everything works out well.
Thank you Kevin:
I do have some of the other symptoms u mention. I did not list everything Im experiencing. I’m hoping to get a response or two from people who have had hips go bad so I can get an “.eye witness acount”. I appreciate your time & information Kevin.
Hello Geo,
According to the U.S food and drug administration there are multiple symptoms of metallosis which do include severe pain, but if there was metal in your blood you would be experiencing quite a bit more than just pain in your legs. According to their information these are the symptoms associated with metallosis caused by metal hip implants.
- cardiomyopathy (heart problems), including heart failure
- depression, anxiety and other mental problems
- visual impairment that may lead to blindness
- cognitive impairment
- nerve problems
- thyroid problems
- auditory impairment that may lead to deafness
- skin rashes
- noise coming from the hip
- infection
- implant loosening
- hip pain
- tissue necrosis
- pseudotumors
- vertigo
- deafness
- tremors
- goiter
- abnormal blood pressure
- depression
- weakness
To know if you are experiencing metallosis your doctor can take a blood sample and see how much metal you have in you blood. The blood test checks levels of all the types of metal in your blood will give the doctor a better understanding of how badly your hip replacement is breaking down and entering your blood stream.
I hope this information helps.
