I need a psychiatrist in ROSWELL/ALPHARETTA area that will prescribe Ativan or Xanax. I cannot take with drawl symptoms
Dave, I also live in Roswell and am looking for a dr.
What kind of pain do you have to get that many meds? What state do you live in? I wish I could find a doctor that had that much compassion.
I don't know the laws in the USA in regards to Xanax and pain medication or if any government agency monitors these types of prescribed medications. Here in Australia a Dr has to ring a government agency to get an authority number to prescribe Alprazolam (Xanax) and the Dr must state for how many and the number of repeats, depending on an individuals dose this agency monitors the authority numbers, by that I mean for example if you are prescribed Xanax 3 times a day it is averaged out and if you go back for more before this "averaged" time expires you don't get another authority, I have heard they do give you X amount of days grace period. If this does happen then they know the medication is being abused or even sold on the street and you no longer have regular access to the Xanax, it is only authorized for perhaps each script rather than 3 - 6 months worth, if that makes any sense to you.
As for pain relief I don't know much about them even though I am on endone. Dr's can prescribe that without any authority numbers from the relevant authority. There are prescribing guidelines in place and the endone that I am on, once again dose depending it is monitored and if something is suspected the pharmacist will refuse to fill the script and ask you to see you GP, the reason a pharmacist will refuse to fill your script is because of the information they have on file of your last script and the number of days it took you use the pain relief. Doctors here a pretty well on the ball in who is abusing the drug or the system as well and that's when they will refer you onto someone else.
Doctors here where I am, the older doctors will prescribe endone but the newer generation of doctors will not, apparently they are being taught at med school to veer away from any addictive pain medications, there are some young doctors that will prescribe pain relief because they are or have been made aware of your condition(s). I had to get a second opinion on a couple of matters and this doctor asked me if my GP was young I replied with the answer "Yes" he then shook his head and said I wish they would leave medications that are working alone, if everything is working then it shouldn't be fiddled around with, this doctor is now my GP. Does the USA have this sort of set up where the doctor has to call a government agency (medical) for authority numbers? I realize our medical systems are different and we have government assisted schemes for medications, in this case it's the government that says "NO" not insurance companies for those who are lucky enough to be in private health down here.
I believe at this point each state has set up its own laws on who can prescribe opiates and anti anxiety medications. And it matters the amount too. Here in Tennessee a general doctor can give you pain meds if you break your leg or have soke kind of accident but after a couple months at most they refer you to a pain clinic. The new FDA report does warn doctors about prescribing opiates and benzos together and so the doctors themselves here are changing the way the do things. PCPs are making patients go to psychiatrists to deal with it. Tennessee has set up a database of all patients on opiates which can be accessed by any physician you see or pharmacy you fill at. They know what you get where you get it and from whom. This database was set up last year. I think all the states are going to get to a similar point because of these reports coming out from government agencies. It is just some states implemented the crappy changes quicker. Tennessee is a red state big time and in the Bible belt I expected them to get crazy on us fast!
I lmoved near Alpharetta GA recently and can't find a doc that will prescribe pain meds either. Amy help?
Hi, I would like the name of the doctor that prescribes xanax. I do suffer from panic attacks heavily and have seen a few psychiatrists and all they have prescribed is buspar and selexa and those DO NOT work for me. If you could share with me the name of the doctor that does prescribe xanax I would greatly appreciate it. My number is {edited for privacy}.
I'm in chronic pain. I suffer. I struggle with Anxiety, muscle spasms, ADHD. I take 2 mg zanex 100, soma 100, Norco 180, Adderall 20 mg. I can't get out of bed, work, or have a quality life now bc my MD is retiring
What do I do
How do I find a doctor in my area like yours? I live in the conyers GA area and suffer everyday and night with chronic back pain, my current pain dr says she can only prescribe 90 oxycodone a month, its not doing the trick for sure. Maybe that and diluadid may touch the pain! How do I find a more understanding good bedside behavior dr, do they even exist anymore
Anyway you're still there and can share the name of that doctor david?? I've got degenerated discs and mangled scoliosis. PT just makes it hurt worse! Thank you. {edited for privacy}. If you could contact me that'd be great.
Wow not many docs will readily give out those meds..with whatever your physucal probkems are its good too see that some docs do give a damn..
hi, do you still get these emails or replies? i would like your info on finding the right doctor.
I live in roswell, have pain associated with work and need to find someone who may be willing to prescribe non narcotic such as Tramadol....only thing i take and take and work
David, i have been to specialist but the will not give ongoing more than 6 months. I have issues due to my physical job. anyway looking for a dr. who can help out with pain during my work days. I only need for when i am at work. I can explain more. hard to find a doctor who does care.
What's is the name and /or practice?? I would like to look farther into it as I suffer from both pain due to injury and anxiety from a lot going on.
I have degenerative disk disease among a host of other back problems from a car accident. I also have a problem with my hip being out of alignment which makes it worse. The shots don't help at all and actually have made things worse. I am in Florida. Coming from North Carolina, being on 10mg Percocet, Florida pain management put me on 7.5mg Loratab! They do not help! He does not listen to me and treats me like I'm an addict or something. This has been a 15 year ongoing physical problem. It's not just like I all of a sudden said, oh I have pain, give me drugs! I have plenty of records. My pcp told me to go to a dr in Another state but I dont know one and I dont want to keep changing drs and get accused if dr shopping. Does anyone have any good dr yhey can reccomend in Florida, Alabama, or Georgia?
It may vary from pharmacy to pharmacy but I've filled two separate strong opiate prescriptions for a high number of pills at Walgreens, RiteAid, CVS, and 2 independent local pharmacies. This is over a period of several years since "pharmacy hopping" is not something I like to do. I fill my monthly prescriptions at the same pharmacy. But my usual pharmacy is at a Walmart-type store that isn't national so occasionally, if I'm out of town or out of state and need to fill my prescription for these pills, I have to fill them elsewhere. I have my doctor's understanding and approval if my prescription schedule requires this. The important point here is--ALL OF THESE PRESCRIPTIONS ARE WRITTEN BY MY PCP AND NO PHARMACY HAS EVER SAID THEY WON'T FILL THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT WRITTEN BY A PAIN SPECIALIST.
I have to agree with those who side the GP can prescribe whatever he wants, getting it filled is the hard part. The big chain pharms (CVS, Walgreens) generally will not fill if a GP, only pain management docs. My GP (Florida) has been writing me Xanax 1mg. 2/day for many years and was until recently writing for Norco as well. Since the new laws I can't get Norco's filled anywhere so we switched to Gabapentin and generic Tylenol 4 at 4/day. It's not the same but it helps. When I get insurance I'm going to a pain doc and see if he will prescribe generic oxy's (no tylenol) like my wife gets for her degenerative disc disease. In the meantime my Xanax, Tylenol 4, Soma's will have to do for my herniated discs and arthritis until I can afford insurance. Tough times and the D.E.A. (Drug Eradication Agency) is hurting us as much as our physical symptoms.
They aren't actually regulations, I think that was a bad way of wording. They are actually just directives from the DEA, to try to curb over prescribing and improper prescribing.
Doctors that don't abide by them are going to face a lot more scrutiny, so many don't feel it's worth the risk.
