Doctors Who Will Prescribe Pain Medication
UpdatedI have chronic disc, bone, nerve damage have many other nerve, bone and tendon damage. Had injections, surgery and nothing helps. Going to a pain clinic in Rhode Island and love my doctor but wait is extremely long. Don't know how to find another doctor in area who will continue to prescribe Meds on and need to cope and quality of life. My doctor understands and can't find any doctor in area who will prescribe: oxycontin, oxycodone, Xanax and Valium. Are there any doctors in RI who will prescribe same and manage pain and increase when needed?how do I find ? HELP
HI, Leopold! Sorry about the problems that you're having and I do understand…
But, with all the issues that have been going on over on the east coast with new laws, prescribing restrictions, issues getting meds, limits on what doctors can prescribe and for how long….the best thing you can probably do is just stick it out right where you are. Compared to a long wait to get in for an appointment, you could end up faced with not having your medications prescribed, at all, or not being able to find a pharmacy that will fill them from a new doctor.
Things have really been crazy due to the very high rates of theft, diversion and etc. on the east coast, so the crackdowns have been occurring left and right.
Why are you on both Xanax and Valium? That's essentially doubling up on the same medication.
Hello
I am in the same boat, I have many of the same Health Issues as you have, I have had no luck since my primary MD, said that he could no longer prescribe 2 medications for me, I was wondering which pain clininc you go to, I do not take anything that strong, just Fiorocet and Fioranal W Codeine for when the pain is intollerable.
I would really appreciate it, if you could let me know where you go, I tried one place, but they would not even give me injections, which have not helped in the past, because they said that I needed surgery for the 4 disks in my back, this is not an option for me at this time, as my daughter is not able to get around yet on her own.
I look forward to hearing from you
Hey, I need Help. I was taking 10/525 Mg tabbs everyday and a lil oxy whenever I could get my hands on it. I was taking pills for about 8 yrs off and on I've been thru it all. I'm24 yrs old. I want a nnormal life. I finally went to the Methadone clinic. I was taking up to 60mg of Mthadone everyday, that was the highest I went. I finally wanted to detox around my 8 th month in going to the clinic. I couldn't afford it any longer. Now I'm 8 days clean and I can't sleep.. my legs hurt. I feel weird. I want to sleep better.
hi, Is there any way u could give me the name of the pain clinic in RI? I am desperate! Thanks
I live in RI and can help if you want... Email me at {edited for privacy}.
Could you recommend a pain clinic in RI I have chronic pain and no one wants to manage it
I really hate the leg pain issue. I know everytime i detox from oxymorphones (opana 10 mg) and oxycodone (30mg), no matter how small the amount, I wont feel right, I'll be drained no matter how much i sleep, but the worst of all is the aches in my legs that wont go away no matter what i do, i feel your pain brother. to avoid this, make sure you have a few pills to ween yourself off, even if its just one for the morning, and one at night..this wont help feed your need to feel high, but it will help rid you of the leg pain mostly. Good luck to you, Opiates are a pain. Doomed if you dont, doomed if you do. Ive definitely seen the dark side and have witnessed how bad things can get. No one really understands no matter how much they preach unless theyve been there. Good luck to you
hey could you let me know who the pain doctor is in RI I need some for my knee have a dislocated disc in my knee s*** sucks and they won't give me any meds please help
I was looking for a dr also in RI.
I have disc problems myself and there is no pain in this life that compares to that methadone withdrawal. I am also looking for a considerate doctor but there is no way to get any information online, you have to go by word of mouth. some pharmacists will give you a heads up since they know whos doing what.

There are many Doctors who label their patients unfairly, demean these patients and degrade them because they are victims of chronic life long pain. This is archaic medicine and does more harm than one can imagine. Physicans are afraid to treat patients who are victims of pain. The DEA targets them and instills fear in how they choose to treat their patients and what they prescribe. More and more, Doctors are refusing to treat their patients who have chronic pain. Patients are far too often considered "Malingering" or "Doctor Shopping".
Doctors far too often refuse to even communicate with these sufferers and label them as a LTDU ( Long Term Drug User) This is unfair, harmful medicine, and and causes llife long damage, both physically and mentally. It has effects on family, friends, co-workers and often causes the sufferer to withdraw from society. Through no fault of the patient, they withdraw from daily activities with their spouses, family and friends.
Much like the Abortion issue, you force these victims of pain into back door alleyways, store front pain clinics and worse. They receive no counseling on how to take their medication and often don't know what they are taking. Like in the past, by treating victims of pain this way, you force them into seeking help and relief outside of the Law. It is one issue to target illegal clinics but another issue entirely to target Physicians who should be allowed and should be treating their patients who have pain. Instead, Physicians are forced, out of fear of prescribing pain medication, to send their patients off to some "Unknown" pain clinic where they suffer yet more humiliating labels and discrimination. Pharmacists often feel the need to "interfere" and embarass the patient when they pick up their medications. They are treated like second or third class human beings.
Why is it that Doctors are no longer treating the 'Whole Patient?" Not addressing the underlying causes of chronic pain? There are many instances when there is NO clear cause for pain but that is not to say it doesn't exist. Pain receptors malfunction. Injuries can cause pain years later. Elderly patients who suffer every remaining day of their lives are told by their Doctors' that "They are concerned about a possible addiction". What happened to the quality of their life? Their right to live their life to live without debilitating pain? Their only option may be to consider suicide? The damage caused is a horror. Elderly commit suicide rather than live with this pain. Physicians are taught (since the very beginning of medical school) that any patient requesting pain medication is to be Scrutinized" and to be "Wary" of them especially if they tell you they can't take anti-inflammatory drugs, that is a sure "SIGN" of addiction. I was told this by my own Doctor. "What to watch out for when a patient requests help with their pain." They actually have a class for new Doctors on how NOT to treat patients.
Hello I am 41 yr old who has fibroymalgia and degenerative disc disease w L4L5S1 herniated .i live in Albany NY.... I've been being treated since 2002 w every 4wk dr visit I go through prolotherapy Injections and I've been treated w 6 80mg OxyContin a day and 1 30mg oxycodone IR Xanax .5mg 3 a day and flexeril neurontin synthroid and many others ..my dr who has been treating me is retiring in December and is not able to refer any of his patients to another dr who can treat us and give us our medications...I'm looking for a dr in the Albany NY upstate area who is willing to continue my treatments..no pain specialist will give pain medications only injections if needed... Anyone who knows and believes in fibromyalgia knows there's no one spot to treat with injections it is wide spread all over body pain...help who can I go to that will help me with medication to continue a betters quality of life instead of never leaving the house ...All I want is to live life instead of just existing,.... Please help thank you
Andrea, the only thing you can do is go and talk to a dr and be sure and take your medical records from your previous dr with you. A dr has to get to know you and then they have their own way of prescribing meds. If you're calling and asking about the Pain Management drs just writting rxs, all of them will say they only do injections to try and cut down on the number of drug seekers as new patients.
Has anyone found a legit pharmacy where we can get narcotics? I can't find a doctor to give them to me since my PCP cut me off. He was giving me Percocet for 1 year and decided to cut me off. He wants me to go to a pain doctor which I did. You can't find a pain doctor to prescribe narcotics for fibromyalgia. I am so angry at my PCP for putting me in this situation. I suffer daily from fibromyalgia. Anyone who has been successful getting oxycodone, please post how to do this

You are not going to find a doctor that will help you like before. Want change ? Change the law! Sign the above petition and share. Maybe Medicare will listen because they have been paying a lot more for all the injections, test, etc.
Hi Leopold I have to say that you should stick with that Pain Management MD, their is no-one and I mean no-one that will prescibe all that, I am looking for someone myself, the last PHP that I went to was giving me one pain pill a day, and cut it to 1 everyother day. Would you please let me know who your pain management MD is. Ihave 3 herniated disks, extreme pain in my left hip, you can actually see all the bone loss, migraines and well I guess I don't need to go on. I did get the name of someone, but I don't know how he is going to be, I have an appointment in 2 weeks, so I really have to suffer until than and it wears me out. I want to clean my apartment, vacumne, clean the floor, all I can manage to do is sweep it and the pain is so bad I am in tears and have to lay down. I would really appreciate if you could tell me who your Pain Management MD is, and I can let you know how I make out with this doctor.
Look forward to hearing from you
Has anyone heard of or used "fedxmeds"? Just wondering if it's legit? Thank you
Hi Bobby, can I get that name of doctor who will prescribe pain meds? My doctor had his license suspended and isn't helping with referrals. I am recuperating from neck surgery and really need them (hydrocodone).
Neck (cervical fx 5-6). Post pain from auto head-on years ago. My primary ditched me as more trouble than his profit margins allow. Have new pain specialist appt. in 8 weeks. Drinking helps but is stupid when safer stuff exists. I live in Portsmouth, RI but will travel up to 50 mi. for help. Need: Fentanyl or MS, or MS extended release 30mg q12 hours.
I too truly understand however after 13 yes of regularly dosing I decided to quit cold turkey. 3 weeks later I suffered two massive seizures and a yr later am still not right n stay n agony 24 7

The suicide hotline is busy, much of the time. The drs. are taking away good cheap pain meds, and anxiety meds, that work well, and add to a patient's quality of life. Many are thinking about suicide because they feel hopeless and helpless. Being abused and bullied in drs. office by a professional dr, seems to be acceptable. The pain drs. want to bully patients into expensive tests and procedures that have failed, and the proof of it is in their past medical records. They trash talked my drs. The pain dr. seemed uneducated and i felt like i was in a mental ward... They want your $$ and they don't seem to care about the patient. They are driving patients to suicide, with bulling. I'm leaving Arizona State. It is a mean drs. playground. Bullying should be unacceptable behavior. I have no tolerance for paying $$$ to a professional to be emotionally abused...
I have moved from Western Washington recently. I am on oxycodone, xanax and cymbalta... I have been on xanax and oxycodone for 10 yrs. Meds were written by one dr. No problems or bad side effects. Now i have moved to Phoenix Arizona. I have been bullied and treated horribly by so-called professionals, here. Whether they are pain drs, or primary care drs. They pass the buck, and bully patients. I am truly shocked. They seem to want people to commit suicide by their actions. They demean patients. I heard patients in other rooms being bullied. Arizona pain specialist, in Glendale AZ, avoid... Most of all of this seems to be about greed $$. I contacted my drs back home. I'm moving back to receive decent medical care. I have heard others here in Arizona talk about their medical care. I'm leaving this horrible place soon...The drs want to prescribe more expensive meds here in AZ. All meds have side effects.
I was told that Valium is good for back and leg pain. Xanax is for anxiety and suffer with panic attacks. My panic attacks b4 I started with Xanax I had full blown panic attacks. They are scary and I have so many I was put into a ambulances and taking to ER. Only to be told I have full blown panic attacks. You really feel as if your dying. Dr. Put me on Xanax and now, I very rarely get them, when I do I put one under my tongue. Melts into body faster. Now I have no rides to the ER. They are so damn scary.
Taking Xanax and Valium and all that pain medication. I take Xanax for anxiety and pain medication. People like you are screwing People Like Us who are really in pain because you wouldn't be asking for so much Xanax and Valium, Oxycontin and Oxycodone. I'm sorry to say it, you need to go into a detox.
Thank you for sharing.
It's interesting the Gabapentin would not work, then the Lyrica did? As I have taken lyrica with very little results. And like Codeine is to Morphine. Meaning the Lyrica has to convert to Gabapentin to work.
Maybe it was the dose? I do find Gabapentin to work. And Topamax to work even better for nerve pain. And I am a 6 foot male, I started at 190 and after 4 months of Topamax went down to 155. The Doctor started talking to me about eating more. The truth is I might have reduced my food intake by 10%. But that's it. The only side effect other than weight loss was that it made Perrier (club soda) taste like I would imagine tin to taste.
But it did help nerve pain more than the Lyrica or Gabapentin. Topamax is the Brand name. Ask your DR if you like. It's not controlled, you don't get any weird looks. It's at the lowest level of risk. Same Doctors just prescribe it along with Anti depressants. Because they know that they all make you gain weight outside of Wellbutrin.
I am really just asking if anyone that know's of a Doctor that is fine with continuing a low dose of Morphine?
The drugs like Gabapentin and other nerve meds like lyrica are so needed in conjunction with any opiate or you end up using too much and eventually will be labelled an addict and end up on methadone or Rehab or Dead.
That is why I am so upset with the Dr's that just Prescribe Benzo's, Soma's, and Opiates. Like any pill mill. They should be charged with 2nd degree murder.
I know this is an old post from 2014, but I wanted to share my experience with you.
I'm so sorry you have this pain. But ther is hope!
I, too, had crippling leg pain from nerve damage. Every day by 4:00pm, I couldn't walk without a walker and still the pain was intolerable.
I was prescribed a massive dose of gabapentin for the nerve pain and it did nothing.
I asked for a prescription of Lyrica and the result has been AMAZING! Some Doctors are afraid to prescribe it in conjunction with mophine but beg if you have to. It helps with all the other nerve pain that results from damaged nerves you aren't aware are there.
It has been my saving grace and I am so grateful I have a compassionate doctor who gets mad at how timid physicians are to treat chronic pain patients like human beings.
I hope this helps.
Hi
Any help would be so great. 8 years now. My DR retired. I was using 60mg of Morphine. Not a huge amount, especially for 8 years straight. And valium 5mg TID.
Thank you so much. Hope you are still on the board.
RI also: If you would let me know name, it would be helpful 5 years of pain for me. Good luck ((hugs)) from Mpathia U cannot put email up but perhaps you could describe where office is located and if it is a pain clinic. I forgot but I think you said it was... Your the first Rhode Islander I've encountered
Hi. I am just weaning off meds and know I'm just about to go into excruciating pain and not be able to function. I have fibromyalgia, 6 bulging discs, a few pinched nerves, spinal stinosis and a few more things wrong that I didn't understand on my mri. I live on Long Island ny. I really could use a dr that prescribes pain meds. Soon I'll be bed ridden. I don't have the money to keep wasting my time going to drs who will only give epidurals, which I'm totally against and the other injections have caused me more pain than normal. Of course you can't ask on the phone if they prescribe.I need to know for sure a dr prescribes. Please if anyone knows of any drs in NY. Queens, long Island, Manhattan or Brooklyn I would be forever in your debt. Not much of a life. Soon I won't even be able to get out of bed.
Thanks Linny I was able to get through, I guess their phones were down when I tried, their was no machine to leave a message or answering service. Thanks so much for your response I really appreciate it.
Diane
