I take wellbutrin, but that made me get the crying jags, so they put me on Citalopam hbr 20mg along with the wellbutrin and I'm feeling great. I'm a little tired, but not bad.

I don't know. I stopped taking it after a couple of days. I know the doctor says you can't tell without taking medicine for 2 weeks but I did. I went back to my Wellbutrin. It just made me feel spaced. I didn't like it at all.

I had been taking Burprpion Xl 300mg for about 5 yrs. and I have been feeling I need a change in my medication. The doctor prscribed Celexa 20mg and I take my first pill tomorrow...Should I take this at night and does anyone have problems with their sex life? I took Paxil before and I could never reach an orgasm and I quit taking it. That is when I started the Burpropion.

A doctor explained to me years ago when I went on to Lexapro that it was the same med as Celexa except that Lexapro mirrors itself chemically which has less side effects that Celexa. I originally started taking Lexapro because of depression, but found the best benefit was that it reduced my migraines from multiple monthly to rarely now. I did try Celexa but did not have the same benefits and as most have described in the many messages had the major side effects from Celexa.

I have found that as with all anti-depressants (have been on many over the years) that those developed in the same classes, but have slightly different chemical make up are not the same as their other counterparts. This is true for Lexapro and Celexa. Celexa is actually stronger in strength than Lexapro (given the mirror chemical composition), thus Celexa will have more of the side effects.

I understand the need to save money verses the desired results of medication but insurance companies are interested in saving money more than the results. The most difficult part of the whole scenario is that it takes many years and much experimentation with doctors to find the meds that work. The other part is getting the doctors to listen. (many don't explain with the SSRI's you can suffer from getting too much serotonin for serotonin syndrome).

My advice is to do your research and ask for a list of the medications that are possible to use or search drugs for bipolar (no this does not mean you have bipolar) but they have the best explanation of medications and their benefits, as many of the medications prescribed for bipolar are also those used for depression/anxiety/ptsd/other mental health issues. National Institute of Mental Health is a great resource for personal research.

My brother in law was on effexor for years. The one thing he found is that he had withdrawls when he had to go off it and his entire body felt like it was having electrical shocks. True about less weight gain, but be careful to go off gradually to avoid the side effects.

Well, I have been on Citalppram hbr 20mg now for 19 days and the initial strange feeling I had on the first day isn't there any longer. I changed the time I take it. Instead of at noon I have switched to 5pm which works much better.
Along with Temazepam around 7 or 8pm so I can get enough sleep not to be groggy in the morning. I found that by taking both of these together I had to find the right times to take them. Another very cool thing is that my symptoms of menopause have subsided. I'm 56, and feel better without the depression, anxiety temper issues, and not being able to focus due to ADD.
This is the first time in life that I've ever taken these types of medications....wish I had done this years ago.
I was hesitant about taking "psyche" medications because of all the stigmas associated. Find the one that is best for you....and...give it some to get in your system because most of the very groggy feeling from Citalopram
goes away and I just feel calmer and more focused taking it at 5pm rather than too late or too early.

I've noticed how so many people are saying how bad the Citalopram is making them feel, Have you tried taking it at bedtime? I take mine about 30 minutes before I go to sleep, and have had no problems with it at all. When I wake up, all of (if I have them) the side effects have had time to work through my system. Give it a try!

I have always been small and now I need to be on a depressant. Pray this will help me loose some and still help me with my depression. If you think it will please comment on this. Considering going off Citalopram HBR after taking 40mg for the last 9 months. Zoloft worked very well about 8 years ago and I went off that after 3 years due to a very low libido hoping to see some change (menopause was the culpert) Several years later needed something and tried Wellbutrin that was short lived due to the "zombie" state and stayed off everything and prayed/counseled. Now I have felt great with Citalopram and the rough waters have calmed and the weight has packed on (15 pounds). Summers here and I want the weight gone! Do have the dry mouth and sweats more too.

I have been taking Citalopram 20mg for 4 days now. I have a high stress job and found that when I'm home I get depressed and have anxiety attacks. I'm also ADD, with a smidgen of OCD thrown in. argh
I also now take 2 Temazepam 15mg to sleep. Even though the Citralopram mellows me out and I "feel" tired I cannot sleep with just that. I had been taking Ambien but that stopped working for me.
I have been sober from drugs and alcohol for 14.5 years now and have just recently had these bouts with depression, anxiety and insomnia.
I drive fine and run a fleet of 185 vehicles, trucks and over see 20 people, teach 4 groups a week at night and have found that I'm much more focused now.
Yes, it's only been 4 days....so hopefully this will continue to work for me.
These medications may not be for everyone...but they sure as heck work for me. I'm grateful to finally be able to not have my mind all over the place and land in a dark zone.

I have been taking Citalopram for a year now and feel great! I went off of them about a month ago to see if I could go without them, That was a BAD mistake. I went back to the doctor and have started back on them. I am on my 5th day and feeling better already. Depression runs in our family and I have had to take several meds to get the right one for me and this med is the key for me.

Sarah, I'm so glad you brought this up, as I didn't associate the meds to my problems. I will bring this up at my next Dr. appointment. My symptoms have been passed off as arthritis, but now you have me really thinking. I've told people my fingers hurt so bad, that even my finger nails hurt. I totally know what you are going through. I'd like to suggest some possible help for you. The only thing that will help heal the cracks/bleeding is to seal the wound & the only way to do that is with grease/oil. You need to stop the elements from getting to your open sores. I found that "bag balm" works best for me. Put the oil/grease on a bed time (can't over do it) & put on some white cotton gloves. This is not an over night fix, but you should see some improvement & feel some relief before long. If you can get the sores down to a small opening then you could use "new skin" like bowlers use for their finger tip sores. DO NOT try "new skin" now, it would burn like Heck. Please give it a try & I hope you find some relief & keep me updated, if this has helped.

Anxiety & depression are very similar, so the Citalopram & Lexapro work for treating both; but I'm with you..........Lexapro definately worked much better than Citalopram. Medco called & asked my Dr to change me from Lexapro to Citalopram (to save me money) & he agreed. Would have been nice if I had been asked IF I wanted to save money or stay w/medicine I was sure of. I'm much more drug out w/Citalopram. Before taking either med I was very short fused & ready to cry at a drop of the hat or take some ones head off for the smallest thing. Bottom line, Lexapro works better (for me) & I would rather pay the extra money for some thing that works, instead of paying less & being less than I could be.

google a pill identifier on the internet and you will see that "Celexa" has different looks. I'm not sure but I think it just depends on what company is making the drug. The letters after the drug refer to the type of salt used in the drug. You can google that too as in "what does HBR mean after citalopram." I asked this same question after getting my first script from a pharmacy and then switching to a mail order pharmacy. The pill was a different size and had the HBR after the name. As far as I could research, its all about the same. You can also ask your pharmacist.

the reson you all feel sick from switching is because you became addicted to the meds you were originally taking and now you are having withdrawls it will go away
