Research I have gathered shows that Citalopram can have a number of adverse effects. In clinical trials, over 10% of patients reported one or more of the following side effects:
Fatigue, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased sweating (hyperhidrosis), trembling, headache, dizziness, excessive yawning, sleep disturbances, insomnia, cardiac arrhythmia, bruxism, hallucinations, blood pressure changes, nausea and/or vomiting, diarrhea, heightened anorgasmia in females, impotence and ejaculatory problems in males.

i wear a pacemaker are there any side effects with this.
I felt really really odd for the first two weeks. I felt really robotic, nauseous, dizzy, disoriented, dry mouth... although I rarely have anxiety attacks and I feel "normal" now. I took the medication because I had bad mood swings, anxiety and depression and I never have mood swings, rare anxiety and I don't feel depressed. Although I had all of those feelings when I first took the medication, I don't feel those symptoms anymore.
It is now 2012 and I see you posted in 2010 so no doubt you have either taken it or not.
My experience has been magic. I took 20 mg once a day for 12 months and although they say you dont feel the effects for about 2 weeks I felt them in 1 day !! I feel calmer, more alert, better tempered, and all the good things.
I ran out in March and felt no more need to take it.
Within 5 months I could not get to the doctors fast enough to go back on it. I am 74 so who cares about side effect in 20 years, I say take it, start with 20mg and after a few months see if you can manage on 10mg. Find out side effects and if you experience too many too much then go back and get something else. Good luck. .
I took citalopram for 10 years. 60 mg. a day. my psych took me off it because of a study done by MGH in Boston that showed it caused a permanent heart defect. I have bi-polar depression which does not have a specific drug for it. I am coming off of lithium of 600 a day for 30 years and between them both I have dropped into a significant depression. I am very leery of the meds out there and what they do to the body and the brainso I am in a place that is not good. I do have a good therapist but do not like my new psyche. she is a drug pusher.
I am on day 5 of taking 10mg cilift and I have insomnia. Please tell me this goes away, I need some encouragement. I am taking it for anxiety.
