hi, i am taking suboxone i would like to know if i take codeine with it would i feel the opiate? Also is it possible to go through withdrawals from codeine if on suboxone?

Hi...I take percocet 10-325 and sometimes run out early due to taking a couple extra some days here and there due to extra pain. I've got 2mg sub strips to help if I run out before my monthly apt. I take alprazolam odt 1mg as needed for anxiety disorder and I now have bronchitis...my doc gave me codeine cough syrup... Can I take the cough syrup (I'm not taking to feel high/I'm sick and will follow dosage of 1tsp/4hrs) will it work? And will my alprazolam (generic for xanax) work? Thank you!!

i am on 8mg suboxone, 1mg xanax,4x's daily, celexa 80mg, and now have been prescribed non codeine promethazine...will this cause a drug induced high? i do not want that.

hi. yeah this is wat ive found..it seems to depend on wat you take FIRST..So if i get up ,hav my sub then decide i wanna shot bit later i wont go into withdrawals but i also wont feel my shot BUT IF I hav Shot FIRST THEN hav sub later YOU WILL BE VERY SICK.DONT DO IT..I hav to wait till H Is outta my system..by next morn usually..thats how it works for me anyway..

generally the answer to your question is no... the codeine will not work as suboxone binds like glue to the same receptors that morphine or oxycodone does. Codeine transforms to morphine via your liver in smaller amounts and suboxone closes the door on other opiates getting through. However it is different strokes for different blokes. You can get some affect if you take enough of it, but I wouldn't try it as codeine is generally mixed with paracetamol and too much intake of that will destroy your liver.
When going on suboxone make sure you are in moderate withdrawal from your drug of choice before taking it or you could more than likely end up in precipitated withdrawal and that my friend you want to avoid at all costs as there is nothing you can do but ride it out.
If you have started on suboxone on a regular basis daily you can use other opiates and still take your dose of suboxone the next day because most of the opiate never got through in the first place. You have to be at least 2 days of suboxone to get a high. The best way to make sure its safe to take suboxone is waiting till your in moderate withdrawal and your pupils are dilated enough. Most of the time it's a pretty easy transisition. You do not have to wait until you are in full withdrawal!!.

No. You have to wait until the subs are out of ur system completly b4 any opiatis will work. It takes about 3 days. And If you want to take some opiatis wait until its out of ur system b4 taking ur subs again. If been on subs for 7 mons at 24 mg daily.

I've been taking Xanadu and suboxone for awhile now nothins happened but I'm not abusing either of them so you can take other narcotics while using suboxone just not all of them so don't go crazy my brother died from H and drinking and methadone don't duck around and think your invincible

It doesn't matter as soon as you take sub no codiene will effect you but you don't have to be in withdrawal for it to work. Good luck!

Just to clarify for anyone else seeking similar information:

No, you cannot take other narcotics, while you are actively taking Suboxone, since one of its ingredients is Naloxone, which is intended to neutralize other narcotics to prevent their abuse, while someone is being treated for addiction with Suboxone.

When you want to start Suboxone, or start back on it, you have to be in full withdrawal from all other opiates, or it could put you into dangerous withdrawals.

I am on a daily does of 16mg of subs a day and I ran out so I took some Morphine and some Codeine. The last time I took the Codeine was about six hours ago. How long until I should take my regular dose of suboxone so I don't get precipitated withdrawals?

Also, no ur not gonna feel the opiate no matter what strength. Suboxone blocks u frm getting an effect from any other opiates. If you are off the suboxone for 2-3 days, you will feel effects of the codeine again.

1) what dose are you on, how long have you been taking suboxone?
2) How much codeine we talking about? Are you meaning a dose to make you feel high? Or do you have a headache?!
3) what is your usage history?
If you have been on Suboxone over a few days then dont take codeine as it will have no effect. It wont hurt you but wont do anything either as the suboxone will boot it out your receptors. You say 'would I feel it' which suggests to me you are looking to get high off the codeine. So the answer is 'No' unless you are on a very low dose and take a high codeine dose. I honestly wouldn't, why bother? if you are getting clean, you would be better sticking with it. If you are an ex-codeine addict and want to feel good, consider switching to methadone (No, Dr House, it isn't as dangerous as you make out - certainly not in the minute dose you appeared to be doing! ) or if you are really dumb join the rest of us junkies on the gear. Hope you are rich though!
