I have had bad pain in the upper part of my leg and my hip since I got the rocephin shot. My leg got so sore about 2 hours after the shot, that I could barly walk on it. Now it hurts constantly and it catches and shots pain at where I sit down and stand up. I can hardly walk on my leg. I am wondering is this suppose to happen after this shot. I didn't have this before.

I too have a rocephin horror story...Early in june of 2010 my husband took me to the local ER because i was running a fever of 102, at this time i was almost 23, im 25 now. ( i didnt want to go, because i just wanted to sleep i was having trouble with my tonsils at the time, i had already seen my family doctor and was on antibiotics and i had decided to just let it run its course, my parents never rushed us to the ER, i can remember being to the ER once in my childhood for a bee sting.) anyway, so he rushes me in a panic to the local band aid shack....they take a look and basically confirm that it is tonsilitis ( already knew that duh!) they do sugest that i get an appointment with an EN&T dr to get them removed ( which my FD and i had talked about and figured i would have to get sick a few more times before they would take them..but they actually did take them out on june 8th that year) But while i was at the ER they decided to give me a shot of rocephin...i wish they never had.

The nurse that gave me the shot didnt choose the right spot, she actually gave it to me close to my SI joint( in the same line with the si joint but closer to my spine, by my L5-S1 area) as soon as she stuck the needle in i was in the most pain i have ever been in in my life, and as she started pushing the peanutbutter like substance they call rocephin intto my back the pain turned into an intense burning sensation that traveled to my hip joint( the back part of my hip as well on the inside of my hip by my groin) and down the back part of my upper leg and down my calf and to the ball of my foot anf my toes( on my left side) , i IMEDIATELY let them know there was a problem, i have a very high pain tolorance, but this made me cry, i told them about the burning pain that was creaping up my back as well ( this pain was instant and then worse when they started injecting the rocephin it got WAY worse!!) when i told them what i was experiencing they said to just rub it and it will help that it is a very painful shot....well a few months later when my hubby was in the ER i mentioned to them that i was still having problems with the injection ( this was like 6 months later) they told me there was absolutely no way that the rocephin could have caused it...i knew better. I had minor pain in my back and hip before this, as i have a stright spine and probably other countless problems passed down from my family, but NEVER this sever....now almost 2 years later i am still in intense pain, i have started seeing pain managment( and recently got a cortisone injection which made it WORSE than it was) im scheduled for a mri tomorrow, and have had Xrays...I have had to be on pain medication the entire time, because i cant work with the amount of pain it causes( i work as a union Welders helper, and have for about 7 years now, so i do "hard" labor, but know for a fact i didnt hurt myself at work) My pain medication isnt working after almost 2 years with out increased dose( s*** as it is now i might as well not take any) and anti-inflamitories dont help AT ALL, i have recently been put on nurontin as well, but havnt seen any improvement with the 300 mg 3 times a day, besides it makes me twitch and jump( especially when im falling asleep) and gives me "virtigo" like symptoms, and at times makes me very drowsy...maybe i need a higher dose, i know 300 mg 3 times a day is considdered a low dose.....I would LOVE to know if the recephin caused all of this, because this was my origional gut feeling, Im at my wits end....I just dont know what to do anymore, my back/hip/leg( as described above) are a constant level 7 pain....im trying to just deal with it but cant work and handel the pain( gets worse with activity), and i cant just not work, as my husband is now disabled due to a genitic disorder that was misdiegnosed as lyme....and to work i have to fill my perscription of pain medication, which when your 25 people just think that you want them to get high ( thankfully my DR doesnt think that, but there are 2 of his nurses, who have known me since i was like 4 years old, that apparently think that i just use them to get high, and treat me like im a drug addict when i call about my perscriptions....it is absolutely agravating!!!! and EXPENCIVE! I am VERY interested in a class action lawsuit. On May 25th my Dr. said I had double Pneumonia. I was given 6 Rocephin shot over the next 6 days. The shots took care of the Pneumonia but I was left with pain in both legs. The pain got worse each day over the next 4 weeks until I could hardly walk. After I read these posts I new It has to be the Rocephin. Maybe this can help some of you. I set in a hot hot hot bath with Epsom Salt 1 cp. some times I was in there an hour. I took 3 or 4 baths a day sometimes in the middle of the night. Then I would get in bed and my husband would cover my legs with ice packs. I started taking 1000 mg of Magnesium a day and eating foods with potassium. I read both were good for muscles. This last week I am showing great progress. All of the pain in my left leg is gone. My right leg is getting better but is still painful. I hope this keeps working. Maybe some of this will help some of you. I thought I was going to lose my mine.

I got an ceftriaxone injection in the bum, and about 3 days later I developed a cold and felt like my veins had collapsed in my arms! like raynauds disease, my arms are now swollen could it be from an infection or this drug! its been 2 months and my veins are enlarged then shrink

My Good News!

A friend of mine suggested that I try an Indian Spice called Tumeric for my symptoms, and guess what! It worked!! The day before I used it (2/8/15), I was using a cane to walk or walking with a painful limp without the cane. I took 1/4 teaspoon of Tumeric (We previously purchased some for a vegan dish we prepared while on a "Daniel" Fast. The next morning I was able to walk without assistance and with only a slight limp. My hip is still tender, but I am much improved. I took another 1/4 teaspoon this afternoon, and I am praying that I will soon fully recover. For the record, I have been using a heating pad every night, but the relief from this was only temporary. I really believe that it was the Tumeric that did the trick. I hope this helps someone else.

I got a Rocephin shot two days after Mother's Day 2016 for bronchitis. I could barely walk out of the doctors building. That night I was writhing on the floor at home in severe pain from my knees to my waist. The doctor called me in Tramadol and a muscle relaxer.....the intense pain subsided some after a week but here it is August 9th and I have a huge knot in my hip where the shot was given and I have pain from the bottom of my foot up the outside of my leg and in my hip. I have so much discomfort. My pain level stays about a 7 and it is getting depressing. I rely on Tramadol and low dosage of steroid to get me through the day. I always have been a very active person and this is causing me extreme limitations and depression. I am sure my husband is tired of hearing about it.

I just got a Rocephin shot today in my right butt cheek yeah it hurts more than a normal shot I have had phenegan shot before they started diluting it i can deal with the pain.. my problem is I have chrons disease plus I'm highly allergic to penicillin I told my Dr that she said that's OK it just a cousin to penicillin WELL!!! about a few hours later started itching throat started swelling it was already bad because of having strep throat... my cheeks started swelling I was all tingley rash started on my face had to rush to was greens since it's the only thing open at midnight I didn't want to wait at the er for hours I got a bottle of benadryl started chugging it before I got out of the store and had my epi pen on stand by... I at least hope it helps my strep throat ca user last time I got strep throat I got scarlet fever I will take the pain and drink a bottle of benadryl any day if it gets rid of this crap I have... now I have a sore and hurting butt and hoping this benadryl works. ....

Wow, that sounds like an adverse reaction to me. I would definitely make it a priority to contact the doctor who gave you the shot asap. One or two days, okay, but if you're still dealing with considerable pain after six days then it's worth looking into. Wishing you the best with this, and please post back to let us all know what ends up happening. I'm sure your experience could be helpful for others to know down the road.

I received the shot in Dec 09, when the nurse gave the shot in my right hip my leg jerked up and out and hurt like no other shot I have ever gotten. This was not my first rocephin shot. The pain never went away and the area got discolored and sank in like a hole on my hip. It kept getting worse, pain in my hip, leg and tingling down to my toes. When I went back to the dr that gave the shot she said I had an allergic reaction and all I could do was see a Cosmetic Surgeon to have something injected into the area that sunk in to give "cushion" to my nerves. I saw Cosmetic Surgeons, Neurologist, Neuro Surgeons, Dermatologist, Orthapedic, Pain Management, you name it I saw them, probably at least 8 different doctors who all said they have never seen anything like this and nothing could be done. The Neuro Surgeons said I had nerve damage to the small nerves in the hip and its like " a needle in a hay stack" to try to find which nerve or nerves are damaged. I have been in therapy three times, I hurt when I do anything that involves moving my hip and working the muscle, driving for any long period of time is awful. Going grocery shopping and trying to push a full basket of groceries causes it to hurt among other things. I still get a shooting pain where the shot was given and its been over two years. I have now caused my spine to curve and have pain down the left side of my body from overcompensating and leaning to the left to stay off of the right. There is still an indenture where the shot was given. I sit at work for 8 hours a day and they say sitting is the worse thing for me. Anything would be helpful at this point from anyone.

I have a crater in my right hip the size of a ping pong ball from a Rocephin shot. The area is painful to touch. If I sit to long my right butt cheek starts hurting and then it will go numb. My email is I would like to be part of this

I finally got better after 2 months. What really worked was physical therapy during which they did ultra sound. I saw a neurologist who put me on Neurontin which could have helped also. I'm staying on it until I see the dr. again in March. I had gotten a prescription for an anti inflammatory that did nothing. Also got a prescription for Prednisone & it did nothing. Neurontin works on the nerve. What most likely happened to you, like me, is the needle hit the sciatic nerve. The pain was excruciating for 8 weeks! I messed around with the GP until I finally said I wanted to see a neurologist. So physical therapy, heat, ultra sound & Neurontin I'd say did the trick! But I'll never have one of those injections again!!!! Good Luck & let me know how you're coming along.

I went into anaphylactic shock and I quit breathing for a bit. I was taken by ambulance to the nearest ER and a over night stay. It started with itching all over and I couldnt breath and was real hot. I later had a pain in the crease of my leg that was so painful I screamed when I moved or lightly touched it. It is a dull ache now but is still there. I thought you should know and I had taken this shot many times but the doctor told me it was a different brand then they normally gave and think that is what caused the severe reaction.

I got a Rocephin shot in my right hip on Oct 20th and have been in extreme pain ever since. I have to sit and lay on my left side because it is so painful. I can barely walk. It's ridiculous because I've missed more work from it than what I was actually diagnosed with.This is more than the stated side effects of a little redness, tenderness, or swelling at injection site that will go away. If a nurse or doctor cannot inject it correctly without it causing this kind of pain then it doesn't need to be on the market. I now know what my children felt when they got it for ear infections and complained afterwards. I should have been arrested for child abuse.

Hi i'm paralyzed from the neck down and had shot an hour ago for bladder infection. though i cant feel in legs and parts of arms and lower back i'm still enduring strange pain ,tingling and tummy muscle contracting.Had my shot on butt, any one else suffering or had same experience whose paralyze let me know because im due for another 9 injections. I had a rocephin shot in my right buttocks area on June 26, 2013. It is now July 31, 2013 and it is still quite painful in the area of the shot. My clothes rub up against it and it feels like it is burning constantly. I also can't lay on my right side without it becoming uncomfortable. It is very sensitive to the touch, but does not have any discoloration. I can't help but think there is some some sort of nerve issue that is going on due to the way it feels anytime it comes in contact with anything. I've been waiting for it to go away and it hasn't yet, but has now been over a month. I'm now wondering if this is some type of permanent damage after reading all of these posts.. Fortunately for me, I am able to function and walk, unlike others. It's just extremely irritating and very sensitive to the touch.

I received it tues... 4 days later my Glute still hurts a lil. More importantly the severe ear inf I got it for still is there 4 days later. Anyone know if the med is STILL working in my system?

A knot or short term pain from an inj. is understandable but my daughter's quality of life has decreased. A time in her life when she should be enjoying college but instead she is in severe pain and constantly seeing doctors because she can barely because of a Rocephin inj. This was back in November and I didn't think the two were related until I had the same inj. 2 weeks ago and began suffering with the same symptoms. At no time did anyone provide either of us a list of side effects or provide a warning that it could cause permanent joint, muscle and bone pain. If we had known the risks, I would have never agreed to the inj. There are so many other medication alternatives to Rocephin and if patients are informed of the risks then they could choose a different medication. Rocephin isn't a miracle medication that saves lives. The more I hear what people are saying, it sounds like it causes more harm than good. I feel the pharmaceutical company should be held responsible if their medication is causing long term pain to so many people and there is no warning that it may cause these problems.

To be honest, you might want to contact a lawyer. It sounds like the nurse actually did damage and the doctor confirmed it. I would get another opinion from a different doctor. I had strep and they gave me the shot in the muscle of my butt. They day after I was in pain and couldn't sit on it. I got the shot Monday and here it is Saturday. The pain is going away but I still have a knot I'm a little weary of (which is why I'm on here looking for answers). Your experience sounds horrible. So again, my advice to you is get a second doctors opinion and see a lawyer. Any who, best of luck to you.

As an update to my last post on September 13th, 2016: My husband has been dealing with a rocephin inj. as well. He has been dealing with this for over two months and is still in a lot of pain. It eases up a little at times but than goes back to severe. We contacted his doctor after a week and he just told him to give it time. He has had a CT scan nerve conducted studies and still no results indicating anything is wrong. Now they want him to have an MRI. This whole ordeal is costing us a lot of money out of pocket due to this inj. Is there anything else he can do?

Soreness, swelling, pain, and redness are possible side effects of getting a Rocephin shot. When exactly did you get the shot? Was it earlier today? Either way, if the pain persists or worsens i would highly recommend that you notify your doctor. Individuals with allergies to antibiotics may also be adversely affected. I would say monitor how you feel, and don't wait too long to place a phone call. Please post back if you have any details to add. It would be helpful to know what ends up happening.

I got a shot of rocephin about 2 weeks ago because of an absess in my gums and it hurt so bad the day I got the shot as well as a couple days later. Today, I still have pain in the area where the shot was given and that pain goes up my back. I went to the doctor and told them and they told me not to worry it was just my reaction to the needle because I hate needles. They said I probably tensed up.
