I live in South Africa and I use Amloc. This is Amlodipine maleate. I was told that Amlodipine Besylate is is just another component of the same drug. The Amlodipone besylate makes me swell up so much, wearing shoes became impossible. Then my dr changed it to Amlodipine maleate, which does not have that effect, and I do not have to go barefoot anymore!
My doctor prescribed amlodipine bestylate 5 mg along with my blood pressure med because my blood pressure was high, Nov. 19.I usually take it first thing in the morning. After a few weeks, I noticed that I started to have severe stomach pain and also in midriff. The night before last 4:30 in the morning it woke me up. I thought maybe its this new medicine as I have had my gall bladder out in the 1973, so I knew that was not the problem even though it felt like the pains.
I have tried to find symptoms, and any information before I got to my doctor next week, and came across this page. Can you help???
i am taking 10mg of amoldipine besylate. Recently my annual blood results indicated that my Creatine Kinase was elevated. Can my elevation be coming from the amoldipine?
Lynn, to be honest, if I were the patient in this scenario, yes, I'd definitely speak to my doctor about changing the medication. The reason I'd do so is due to the fact that it's never a good idea to prescribe another medication to treat the side effects from a different one.
There is always the possibility that this can result in the compounding of side effects, because every medication carries the risks of them.
If the Amlodipine caused fluid retention, then staying on it isn't the best idea. You do need some medication to help control your high blood pressure, but there are plenty of others available on the market that you can try.
I'm not a doctor, but if it were me, I definitely wouldn't like to be in this scenario. As a matter of fact, my own doctor is already aware that I won't play this game and she doesn't even try and suggest it, if I have a problem with a medication.

Edna, Felodipine is in the same drug class as the Amlodipine, but it isn't known to cause the sudden drops in blood pressure that the Amlodipine causes in some people.
Where you experiencing problems, when it dropped to 90/50, such as nausea and dizziness? If you weren't, then there is really no need to worry about those numbers.

I have been taking Amlodipine Besylatemg for 3 years. Then my Doctor change it to Felodipine 5 mg because I complained that often my blood pressure goes down to 90/50. Is this something positive?
Also he changed my taking of Vidastat 10mg from daily to everyother day.
Started with 5 mg. of amlodipine - no change after 3 weeks. Doubled dosage. Three days later experienced swelling of the legs and ankles with redness to the skin, much like when your cheeks are flushed. Dr. prescribed hct (diuretic). Should BP meds be changed?
Margaret, yes, that can be a side effect of this medication and you should report it to your doctor.
Some people are lucky and the itchy throat and cough go away, as their body gets used to the medication, but for most people it doesn't and remains very problematic and they have to switch to a different medication.
Here's my question, why are you receiving the same medication, in the same dosage, from two different doctors? Are they both aware of this?

Yes, they are the same, one just lists the chemical salt, besylate, which would be the complete name for the medication.
