Zolpidem Generic (Page 7)

ALL CVS pharmacies just changed the zolpidem from MYLAN manufacturer (out of PA) to TORRENT in India. Because generics can certain behave differently, I am nervous about taking the (10 mg) oblong peach Torrent brand one after reading some things online. I also don't like the idea of CVS using from out of the country manufacturer which HAS to be due to a better price because MYLAN brand is still very readily available. Any comments?
I do wish you luck, Chris M, and please post what pharmacy you ended up getting them at and how it went. Also, 5mg or 10mg. Good luck!
I do not believe that Sandoz has the regular generic for Ambien (only the ER version). The ER version (brand) left me with a "hangover" in the morning and it ws also difficult for me to sleep. That is why I've been taking the regular (10mg) Qualitest and then more successful with Torrent 10mg, since Qualtest no longer availabl
Hey Lily, Im going to try Sandoz next. Wish me luck. I totally understand what you mean by dreading when your Qualitest ran out. Im still having PTSD (lol) related to the Qualitest discontinuation primarily because its been a never ending, nightmare inducing, trial and error deal where I still havent found another reasonably functional general ambien alternative. I'll be honest, Im really kind of pissed off. ;-) I'm pissed off at Sanofi for dropping their authorized generics like Winthrop and Prasco years ago. I'm pissed at my insurance company for completely removing brand Ambien from even the highest tier (brand is just flat out not covered now). I'm pissed at Endo for buying Qualitest and then slashing their product line. This generic ambien cabal is just a true basket of deplorables LOL I had to say that with the election a few weeks out. Anyway I'm crossing my fingers on Sandoz.
I have gotten zanaflex and zolpidem from CVS, but switched because they did nothing! I now go to Walgreens. Seems the Valium isn't up to snuff but my I insurance doesn't cover name brand. That will cost 210.00.
For 90. But I've had better luck with Walgreens.
This is Lily. The Northstar over 4 tries has worked at best for 4.5 hours, sometimes not at all. I still have some Qualitest left but dread what will happen when I run out. The Mylan doesn't work for me at all except to somehow actually prevent me from sleeping. You feel drugged, though, and because you don't sleep it off you feel awful the next day. The Torrent is like that too only way worse--that comment about making you crazy? Yup. Something really weird happens, the opposite of sleep.
You got good insurance. I theoretically have a great plan. Employer issued, work for a huge company, but they COMPLETELY removed brand Ambien from the formulary a year ago. I mean not even move it a higher tier, they flat removed it. I didnt even know this was an acceptable thing. So now generic Zolpidem is Tier 1 which is $5 for me per month but brand is like $500. Who can afford that?
I hope that many of you will get this message, because I have been through this with CVS before, because of their choice of supplier's are always at the consumers problem and do not have any concerns or questions about the generic brand's as long as they (CVS) are making the biggest profit possible. That is not the attitude of many other pharmacies such as Walmart, Healthmart, Medicine Shower, Walgreens is a wonderful supplier and are willing to take your concerns and do give you choices. I refuse to waste my money with CVS medication, because one is the benzo. family that if you read this drug includes. I have accidentally before realizing that all medication has many different makers, an believe me it has cost me in the past, because taking one pill to work for me. I've had to take one and a half or more. Pharmacist will either attempt to make you feel like a drug addict for knowing to much an stand by there word that there aren't any difference between the two an that the FDA regulations the same amount of the active ingredient, which is true, but it's the way that these drugs are compounded an that is where the problem lies. I was having to go to a wonderful Dr. In the oncology department and she agreed to this an upset her so you always mark named brand which with insurance the pharmacy must do it at the same cost. More people need to contact the FDA an tell them of your concerns. Please contact them before purchasing any drugs ordered from another country. Also if you google the drug an discount or look up a pharmacy and search online coupons or discounts and promotions for name brands! Good luck to you and remember Qualitiest is the cheapest name brand, yet works better than the Mylt. Thanks I hope that this helps someone else as it did me. Have a Blessed Day!??
1. Generics have to be within +/- 20% of the name brand product. Generally speaking I've not gotten anything for free and can't imagine that the generic manufacturers are going to give more than -20% in general.
2. Fillers in generics can be a problem especially for celiacs and others with allergies. The fillers can change how the drug works.
3.I'm fortunate and only pay $15 extra for a 30 day supply. My pharmacist was chasing various pills for me and then checked with my insurance provider and discovered this. Ask, you might be lucky.
Well, I got a refill of Teva which I have been sleeping a little better. I'm so frustrated with this s*** from India!
Reason why Qualitest worked so well lead me to believe that it actually was brand by Sanofi and labeled for Qualitest. I believe that their maretina agreement fell apart.
It is a common thing with drugs.
Torrent is the best of the remaining generics for me but only 85% effective for me which leads me to take 15 mg on some nites. (I break a 10 mg pill in half aND take it with a. 10)
I liked the qualist too they never keep stuff that works I now take the teva. Brand
Hey Pam,
Northstar sucked for me too. Its one of the ones I tried after the Qualitest discontinuation. Did nada. There is one person on here, Lily I think who is getting by with Northstar and it works somewhat well in her body. Which again proves we're all a little different as far as body chemistry. The one thing I will say is that virtually everybody top to bottom loooooved Qualitest. It was the one thing everybody agreed on. And thats the one they discontinued! (bastards LOL) As I said in a previous post, Im now pissed off but stable with Mylan. It is really weak some nights and I think they have bad quality control, but I cant find anything else. Northstar doesnt work for me, Torrent makes me crazy. Unless somebody has another recommendation!
Correction I got it filled at Osco not Walmart. It said North on it so I assume it's Northstar, The FDA does have a prescription complaint form which I filled out today! Please everyone complain and maybe "sleepless people" will be heard
I had a prescription filled at Walmart for generic Ambien, bacically I haven't slept for about 25 days! I looked on the bottle to see where it was made but there is nothing clearly indicating who & where the manufacturing is. I need sleep. I use to ask for name brand because I could and had great insurance and now I don't have insurance after 35 years. I wish we could send questionable drugs to the FDA for testing. It new brand works & the generic doesn't seems like there's a problem.
I just had my zolpidem filled at Walmart and it is horrible. I will never go to Walmart again for a prescription. It is distributed by Northstar in Tenn.. The "pharmacist" (I use the term loosely) told me it was made in Tenn.. I suggested she read the bottle which clearly says made in India!
Do not count on the FDA, most factories are NOT inspected. In fact I have read that factories producing drugs in India with big U.S. government contracts were fined for all kinds of issues and our wonderful government gave them more contracts! So much for protecting U.S. citizens. I would like to take this zolpidem to a lab and have it analyzed, it is probably chalk or worse.
I will ask them tomorrow! If not, I will try CVS.
Thank you so much!!!
I have been taking Ambien/Zolpidem for twenty years. Started with name-brand and have done the dance with all the generics. I find Sandoz consistantly comes closest to the original. I fill mine in two pharmacies, Target, recently bought by CVS, so now Target/CVS, and a small pharmacy in Jersey. Both will order and keep a supply of Sandoz for me, but -- especially with Target/CVS -- you have to ask. I've been using Sandoz exclusively for over a year and a half and it still works well. I recommend it. Good luck to all.
My pharmacy did some research just for me I have been dealing with them 20 years now. I was taken Ambien from Quietest for 6 years. That manufacturer didn't make it anymore. Now, I am taking Zolpidem Tartrate 10 mg from TEVA made in USA. I can sleep 6 to 7 hours when I use to sleep 9....it better than nothing........
Walmart zolpidem is terrible. It is made in India and distributed by Northstar. It kept me up all night. This is the first time I have used Walmart pharmacy and the last, I will never go back.
The FDA should be doing a far better job of investigating these generics.
Oh yeah and p.s I only took 1. I think it could be in your head or maybe you were looking to feel high?
