Zolpidem Generic (Page 5)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

ALL CVS pharmacies just changed the zolpidem from MYLAN manufacturer (out of PA) to TORRENT in India. Because generics can certain behave differently, I am nervous about taking the (10 mg) oblong peach Torrent brand one after reading some things online. I also don't like the idea of CVS using from out of the country manufacturer which HAS to be due to a better price because MYLAN brand is still very readily available. Any comments?

I have taken Zolpidem Tartrate for years. It is the only way I can get to sleep and stay asleep. The manufacturer is Teva. The last 2 nights I have started using Mylan manufactured zolpidem. I have not slept the last two nights.

PLEASE NOTIFY THE FDA OF THIS ADVERSE EVENT GIVING AS MUCH DATA AS YOU CAN. YOU CAN ALSO NOTIFY CORPORATE CVS AND PHARMACEUTICAL AUTHORITIES IN YOUR HOME STATE,.

PLEASE DO SO.

I have had the exact opposite experience.. Teva has not worked for me AT ALL and the Torrent brand works great. Everyone is different... just a reminder.

I do find that the Qualtrst version which was secretly bought from Sanofi worked the best for everyone.
Sadly their relationship fell apart and forced us to a different generic version.
Generics do indeed vary in effectiveness for every medication.
However, in the case of the Qualtest version it was made by the brand name manufacturer (Sanofi) but just not labeled accordly very sad for us insomniacs

I think everyone reacts different on each med. Every body is different.

Express scripts will still let fill using Rite Aid. They have both torrent and Teva there. I actually had my prescription transferred.
Most likely the decision not to give you Teva was a CVS local store one.
I have encountered this obstinacy on other drugs. (for me the Teva brand did not work) Torrent works marginally.

Unsleep Monster.... Speak to the Pharmacist and see if she can call Express Scripts on your behalf to get Teva approved if that's the one that has been working for you. Alternatively, perhaps your doctor's office can step up with Express Scripts on your behalf. Lack of sleep is extremely unhealthy for the heart, so I cannot imagine that an exception will not be made, since you have had no luck with the Torrent. Another option would be to ask Express Scripts if ANY other generic brand is approved. Good luck!

Teva 74 Imprint works. Torrent does not, it's like a placebo medication. Been taking 10mg Teva for 3 years. My insurance changed to express scripts and bam just like that have to use CVS instead of Duane Reade. So I get these gosh darn pez candy since they don't f***ing work. What am I suppose to do? I can't change my insurance to go back to Duane Reade. NOT ALL GENERIC IS THE SAME. IF YOU EVER GET A TORRENT ZOLPIDEM I'm so sorry for the sleep you're Not going to have. Teva is by far the best one to knock you out. Such BS. What to do to people who cannot afford brand name. Its a damn shame. Until May I won't be able to sleep. Had 4 hours of sleep since Friday and it is now Monday. Last 3 years had no issues. I have to changed my insurance asap to use walgreens and Duane Reade again.

Lily, I always thought that "extended release" pills do not have the score line because if split, it ruins the "extended release" function of the pill.... i.e. by breaking the pill, all of the medication will be dispersed too soon instead of controlled release to remain effective over a longer period of time. I think that makes sense, rather than uneven mixing.

Stepha .... Try Rite Aid Pharmacy; my Rite Aid pharmacy in Queens, NY special orders the Sandoz for me. I take the Zolpidem ER 6.25mg I never questioned the brand until I refilled it, and it didn't seem to be working, so when I spoke to the pharmacist, she told me that they gave me a different brand (Winthrop). Prior to that, I never even knew what brand I was given. As someone else mentioned, the Sandoz seems to give me 6 hours (which is not enough, but it's better than some of the others). Last time, it was refilled, the pharmacist tried another brand that she had in stock (Activis). Sometimes it works ok, but when I take it, I sometimes have a fragmented sleep, waking up every two - three hours. Even though I fall back to sleep, fragmented sleep is not a restful sleep, so I don't care for it. So far, I have found that I like Sandoz the best.

Good afternoon,

My wife and I both take Zolpidem as a sleep aid. I also take clonazepam. Last week I was offered a job, but when I went to a lab to give a U/A and was told I did not pass, the lab said I was positive for diazepam. I do not take diazepam. Off the record, I was told that it is possible to have a false+ reading if I take Zolpidem. I just need a brief reply to confirm this - and I have the job. Don't get me wrong it is what it is, so if it's not possible then I received incorrect information. Please, please let me know. I have a family to care for.

The manufacturer of the generic Zolpidem definitely DOES matter. I've been taking 10mg/night from Torrent for the past 7 or so years without a single problem. Great night sleep pretty much every night. My company switched to another mail order pharmacy and I received 90 pills with Sandoz as the manufacturer and they do not work at all. I've tried to use them for 2 weeks now and haven't had a single night of good sleep. They do nothing at all. No feeling of drowsiness or anything. Now I've got 75 more of these worthless Sandoz pills to deal with. I've called the pharmacy and they told me that they only use Sandoz so I'm going to have to try and find one who carries the Torrent brand locally. This is such a disruption! The no sleep is compounding my situation. Ugh!!!

Which Zolpidem Tartrate 10mg (Ambien) am I taking? It's a peach-yellow oblong tablet, imprinted with 10mg on one side, and what looks like a 5 die logo on the other. (Like from a set of dice).

It isn't like the old Ambien where I would sleep walk and talk and act like an ass. Or wake up unknowingly and leave my house at 4am and decide to go for a drive. To have a State Trouper from another state find me sleeping in my truck and put my keys on my roof, and call local Police. I found this out later when the town cops were banging on my window at 7am. Luckily I wasn't charged, the Statie claimed I almost ran her off the road, then pulled to the side and fell asleep, she wanted me arrested BAD. But, thanks to her for removing my keys, so I didn't drive away, there was nothing they could charge me with. All I was doing was sleeping in my truck. The last thing I remember was going to sleep! I almost drove again to go rent videos, but luckily I couldn't find my shoes and turned on the bedroom light and woke up my husband. He video taped me arguing that it was 3pm not 3am. From then on I gave my husband my keys at night.

Anyone ever see The Simpsons show, where Homer was on Ambien? Too funny, but factual.

In the US, you need a prescription. Sandoz did not return my call. As far as I can tell, you need to be with Kaiser to get it. I think they have an exclusive with them.

In Tennessee, Publix carries the white (between a football shaped and oblong) manufactured by Aurobindo Pharma. Eh, not so effective.

I tried the trazodone. My MD was real clear to start with I think it was 1/2 tab and if that didn't work, increase it by 1/2 a tab up to 2 whole tabs. It made me extremely tired and sleepy, took me right to the edge of sleep, but I couldn't get past that. Kept upping the dose. By the time I hit 2 tabs I felt so awfully hungover the next day, as if I'd had bottle of tequila literally! (not that I actually do know what that'd feel like, but you get the picture) So, total fail and never again.

I have been taking the Torrent 10mg now for a few months and it is ok ---- however, no where the effectiveness of the Qualtest generic(no longer available).
I have tried the others -- did not work for me, with Teva being the worst.

This month, I actually am trying Trazodone (100mg). Has anybody had experience with this drug? It actually get me to sleep faster but, it does has some side effects.

Sandoz works best for me. From the posts I see, different formulations have varying responses. Sandoz did not give me a hangover and allowed 6 or so hours of sleep. Torrent works slowly - often several hours after I take it, gives me only about 2 - 3 hours and a day of hangover, foggy head for balance of day. No way to live. I am waiting to see if Sandoz will return my call. Company is in Denver. Most pharma use McKesson as distributor and they can no longer get it. Companies are only a few miles apart. My other choices are Teva and Northstar as far as I can tell. Looks like it will be a few months of little - or too much sleep!

I don't know if Sandoz makes an ER version, but I do know all the ER versions are 12.5mg. It definitely makes the plain version (10mg highest)--that's what I have.
