Yutopar Aka Ritodrine (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

This drug was used for women going into pre-mature labor. It was used to stop the contractions. Unfortunately it had major side effects on the babies. This was an experimental drug used from 1980 -1990 and was then discontinued. I was given this drug and my daughter was born 6 weeks early, had her by c-section. I begin to notice around 12 yrs old that problems were arising in her mental health, still not realizing that this drug played an important factor. I have found many women that this to has happened to, and I'm still looking for more families that this has effected. It is devastating and a nightmare for my daughter who is now 30 yrs. old. If you have any information I would really like to visit with you about your child. Thank you for reading this, we need to band together for our kids.

It caused physical problems with some mothers, but the problems with the children born to those women seem to suffer emotional and psychological problems from puberty on, some very serious.

I located the name of the University in the Netherlands that had conducted a study of babies born to mothers on yutopar. The study traced children just until they were elementary age and found no harmful effects. The problems all of our children are suffering, however, start at puberty. I sent a request to an email address I found for the University asking to be connected with someone who had been part of conducting that study because I had some questions. My intention was to suggest that they do a new follow-up of those children now that they are all older. I received no response.

Dr. And his answer to me " well thats the past and at this point I have to find a medication to Treat her" not a bit interested.... I'm blown away about the lack of concern these Dr.s have for these kids....what the hell....no one cares in the medical field and no one has the time to investigate this...

I was prescribed this drug in 1978 at 5 months and was told it was safe. The first anomalies I noticed were in the first months after my son was born - any change (move from hospital to home; first guest in our home; travel to visit family) would send him into wild hysterics. In hind-sight, it strikes me that he was like a crack baby that was in withdrawal. Later, as a small child, he reported that he could feel it when his fingernails were being cut - he could not bear to listen to anyone filing their nails because of the way he assumed it affected them. As an adolescent he developed academic and emotional problems. He was diagnosed as suffering from ADD. In early adulthood (age 20) he suffered a severe depression - I suspect he was undiagnosed bi-polar. He died later that year from a drug over dose. I consider his drug use to have been a form of self-medication. Has anyone else noticed similar problems, especially in your new-borns?

I never agreed to be ANYBODYS test subject , nor did my child ! This is all so wrong. Since the drug was not FDA approved, why would there be a time limit on when something could legally be filed against a drug company ? There are too many victims. Agreed, something needs to said for all those who need spoken for.

My daughter is 31. She suffers from mental, social, and addiction disorders. I received this drug during my pregnancy in 83-84. I have contacted an attorney regarding this drug. We deserve some answers!

I believe the drug was FDA approved; however, the drug was misused by American doctors. It is my understanding that the drug was never intended to be used for more than 2 weeks. American doctors, however, prescribed it for the duration of the pregnancy in many cases. The drug was eventually removed from the market, but I believe that happened only as a result of a legal case in Australia where the mother's death was linked to Yutopar.

This should be told nationally. There may be thousands of mothers, children and now grandchildren affected by this and struggling to find an answer. The maker of this drug did not do its due diligence.

My daughter is now 32 and has suffered from mental health, addiction, and social anxiety since she was 14 yes old. I was on the drug both IV and PO for many weeks during my pregnancy. I have tried and am currently seeking the help of an attorney willing to help despite the statute of limitations. This should be a class action suite, as many of us didn't see signs in our children until they were older, let alone linked the issues to this obviously damaging drug!

I have twin daughters who were born in 1983. They were normal, except for constant step throat, until they were about 12 years old. Then we noticed behavioral problems, depression and anger. They are suffering as adults and cannot understand why they feel like they do. One has drug addiction problems. I have been trying to understand what happened for years. Only now did I decide check on the Ritadrine. I see now I am not the only one.

My daughter was six weeks early but the damage that drug caused is unbelievable I hate knowing the hell these babies will face. Please check for me see if this drug has been discontinued there I maybe wrong but I know in third world countries it is still available. May God bless you and your family

That's what I'm screaming... We need the news to cover this story. Can you imagine how many mothers have not connected this drug to their child... And how many kids fighting this demon not understanding why..... Between this blog and my social media pages word is spreading... Parents there is strength in numbers.... We won't be ignored and swept under the rug... We will fight for a better life for our kids....

I would be willing to launch a letter writing campaign if we could round up enough people to make an impact. Maybe folks like Dr. Oz or Dr. Phil could Bring more "Ritodrine Babies" awareness to people who were given the drug and had "troubled" children who never "grew out of it". I've adopted a "crack baby" who is 10 now and has been diagnosed with Autism. Not that the two have anything to do with each other, but there was not enough research done on "crack babies" to concede anything definite. There are a few articles that call Crack babies the generation that never was - but I tend to dissagree. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome was studied at great length for years and it has been recognized as a "Syndrome". It's real. That's all I would like to start with when talking about "Ritodrine Babies".

My heart stopped twice after delivery due to pulmonary edema, a side effect I have just learned of yutopar (took it in 1988). My twins symptoms have been depressive disorder, debilitating anxiety, panic disorder, inability to consider consequences, etc. One twin's symptoms started at age 10; the other around 15. Both now at 28 receive regular therapy and are on multiple medications. Both struggle to cope with life.

"inability to consider consequences"...I see that in my daughter even aged 5. I can now see how that can become a big problem when she's older. Do other people have this symptom and any examples? Thanks
