I have had chronic hives for 10+ years. I've taken Prednisone, Benedryl, Zantac, Zyrtec & Several other medications to lesson the effects of this awful curse. Finally decided to try Xoliar 4 days ago. At first my hives were SOOOO much worse! Probably the worst they have been in a year. Then all of the sudden I woke up give free! No medications for 2 days. I know it's not a very long trial period but I want to shout from the rooftops!!! Someone who has this would know the overwhelming feeling to just not take these medications for 1 day & Xolair did it for me. You just have no idea how happy I am!! ## Hello, Madison! How are you? I am so glad that you found something that's helping and I hope it continues for you! I've not had chronic hives, but I have gotten them...
7 REPLIES UpdatedI have a brain injury due to an unfortunate meeting with a moose and my car. I was doing very well. I actually went skiing in February. My last xolair injection was march 1. On march 2, I had to go to the ER because of anaphylaxis. By march 6, I couldn't walk well. I was admitted to the rehab unit at the hospital for 12 days. I am using a walker to get around. Has anyone else had reaction similar, or a neurological reaction? ## Hi, Michele! I am very sorry about what happened to you. Anaphylaxis is actually the main adverse reaction listed for Xolair and it is likely that it is what caused the neurologic problems. Thus, they are basically an indirect result of the Xolair and a direct result of the anaphylactic reaction. Learn more Xolair details here. Anaphylaxis has been known to o...
6 REPLIES UpdatedI am taking Xolair for autoimmune disease. I have told my doctor about my severe hair loss and he suggested that it is not because of the Xolair, but instead autoimmune response. I, of course, think it is because of the Xolair have I read a lot of what other people taking the drug have said. Is there any information I can point my doctor to in hopes of getting better/different treatment. ## Hello, Mel! How are you doing? I am very sorry about the problems that you're having. Your doctor just needs to look at the detail prescribing information. It is all listed in there among the side effect information. You may also experience nausea and fatigue. Does anyone else have any advice to add? ## Hi. I have been on xolair for 9 months. I started shedding 5 months in, and it hasn't stop...
9 REPLIES UpdatedI'm doing a presentation on Xolair as a therapeutic antibody, and I would really like to get a first hand account of the impact this medication has on patients, in all areas of life, including: physical health, side effects, quality of life, family/loved ones, mental health, and anything else you may want to include. Any and all information would be extremely helpful. Thank you in advance. ## Hello Katie, I personally haven't used Xolair, but down below are links to a couple threads where people in the community discuss their experiences with the medication. Discuss/Xolair-newby-211789.htm Discuss/Xolair-Omalizumab-Hair-Loss-164886.htm I hope this helps! ## I have asthma and many allergies. Food and environment. I was told that Xolair injections was for moderate to severe persis...
8 REPLIES Updatedl am using xolair and getting cramps, sore joints, head aches, but am putting weight on as well as stomach bloating. Also not sleeping well at night. Is this common with Xolair or other asthma medications? ## Hello, Chris! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're experiencing. Everything you've described are listed as being possible side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA, except the bloating. You may also experience dermatitis, sinusitis and voice changes. Thus, it would be best to consult your doctor to have things checked out to be safe. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I had my first inj. Tuesday. I have extreme flushing and hives on my face to the point that people think I am having a heart attack or something major. Have been taki...

3 REPLIES UpdatedI've been on xolair for three weeks now. I don't have side effects yet but I'm still waiting for it to help me. I have severe GI angeoadema. I only have less than ten plain foods I'm able to eat. And I get hives all the time it's painful to eat and when I swallow, my face tingles. I get itchy after every meal and my hives get worse. I also get horrific hives on my period. I just want to know if xolair will kick in after the second shot? I don't understand why it hasn't helped. ## I'm having the same problem, Stacey. I finally—FINALLY—got my first injection last Friday, April 24, and I'm still waiting for it to start working. It's frustrating because I had to fight so hard to get the stuff to begin with. My next injection will be the hi...

1 REPLY UpdatedI am on my 4th Xolair shot and I am just starting to piece togther its the cause of my dizziness. Has anyone else had dizziness as a side effect? It comes and goes. I am trying to monitor and will be calling my doctor on Monday to let him know what is going on. ## That can be a normal side effect of this medication, you may also experience nausea, headache, drowsiness, weakness, according to the FDA. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedHad asthma my whole life, never too bad. Got hives real bad 8 years ago. Xolair is working great for the hives. I have my life back. However, my asthma seems worse. It's hard to tell if it's from the xolair or not. Only side effect I've had is a dislike for alcohol which is fine for me, but it could be another use for this medication. ## As reported by the FDA, there is a chance that it might cause that, though it is very rare. Other more typical side effects may include dizziness, headache, back pain, fever, and hair loss. What medications do you use for the asthma?
1 REPLY UpdatedMy daughter Catherine (age 17), had an extreme case of Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria (lasted over a year). We saw specialist at Nemours Children's hospital (Orlando, FL) and they recommend Xolair inj's. as a course of treatment. She has had 6 months of infusions. Although her hives are under control with the help of this medication, the side effects are a bit alarming. Each time she has the shots done, she becomes very confused, dizzy and lethargic. She has trouble remembering things and seems as though she's intoxicated (stumbling around). To the point where she is vomiting and unable to function normally. She has to stop life and just keep her eyes closed and rest. This lasts for 4 to 5 days. After the side effects wear off, she has told me she has shocks in her head (Brain...
1 REPLY UpdatedHi, I wondering what the cut off level for the Xolair CoPay program is, as I'm struggling to pay for the inj's.? I also don't get medical assistance from the govt since my income is slightly over the limit. Does anyone know how I can pay for my xolair inj's? They are $6000 PM please help! ## Call this number for the manufacturer's Co-pay Card Program- 855-965-2472. This will be a life saver! ## Hi William, In addition to what Angel suggested, I just wanted to let you know that MedsChat also offers a free Rx Savings Card that can be used at over 60,000 pharmacies across the US. It reportedly helps you save anywhere from 15-75% off your prescription. Hopefully enough to take a pretty big chunk off $6,000 *fingers crossed for you*. You can view/print more details in the...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI have had problems with my platelets. They dropped to 19,000 should be 140,000 or more. My immune system is not recognizing them and they are being destroyed. It was great for my asthma, but not for my immune system. Should there be blood tests done regularly while on this drug? It is rare but it an happen known as thrombocytopenia purpura. ## Hello, Terry! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you had. As to the blood work, it's usually not done, when a possible issue is so rare. Otherwise, a lot of money would be spent to check millions of people for an issue that almost never happens. The typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, cough, difficulty swallowing fever and headache. Have they given you any treatment options? ## No just take my in...
3 REPLIES UpdatedCan anyone tell me if weight loss is a side effect of xolair, and if so why does it cause weight loss. Has anyone experience it firsthand. I would greatly appreciate the imput of this subject. ## Hello, Lulu! How are you? No, that isn't listed among the detailed side effects provided by the FDA. They typically include congestion, fever, headache, hoarseness and itching. How much have you lost? Are you on any other medications?
1 REPLY UpdatedI started Xolair when I was 16 and I have now been on the drug for 5 years. Before Xolair my asthma and allergies were uncontrollable. I had been on steroids full time since I was 7, and as a result of this I was combatting multiple steroid side effects such as thinning bones, stunted development, weight issues and many more. Even on full time steroids my asthma was uncontrollable. I spent my childhood in and out of hospitals and only managed to attend school part time. My illness effected every part of my life. My parents and my pediatrician had been pushing for me to start Xolair and at 16 I was finally able to get onto a trail of the drug. I can honestly say it has 100% changed my life. It worked like a miracle. I was able to come off steroids for the first time in 9 years. I stopped...
1 REPLY UpdatedWe were in an area of high mold content--Xolair does not help mold allergies. Started having asthma, and began prednisone. 6 days after starting prednisone I had my Xolair injection (Doc said it would be fine). 2 days following Xolair injection my asthma got much worse despite increasing prednisone to 40mg. Has anyone had a similar experience, i.e. Xolar injection, then onset of severe asthma. ## Hello, Rk! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. You actually need to be on the Xolair for awhile, before it will start working to reduce your asthma symptoms. Having an allergy attack that close to it being administered didn't even give it a chance to start working to prevent it. It doesn't work like antihistamines and rescue inhalers do. Do you have a r...
1 REPLY UpdatedHi everybody, I've been on Xolair for 7 months for an uncontrollable asthma. Last month I passed two kidney stones. Lab work shows calcium within normal range but my PTH levels keep going up weekly. I'm suspicious that Xolair might have caused this since it's an immune system related condition. I'm still under treatment and very concerned that there might be a relation. Has anybody experienced parathyroid issues with Xolair? I appreciate your input. ## Hello, Maly! How are you? No, I didn't find anything about it doing so in the detailed side effects provided by the FDA, though it's never possible to say how any medication may affect anyone that uses it. The typical side effects are listed as possibly including pain at administration site, swelling, runny nose or...
1 REPLY Updatedhave been on Xolair for 10 years had bad asthma attack rushed to hospital anybody else been on that long and has severe attack/ ## Hello, Blonde57! I'm very sorry about what happened. Do you know what triggered it? I don't think any of us allergy sufferers ever find any treatment that works 100% of the time and prevents all attacks, sadly enough, because I am totally with you on wishing there were such treatments. Did your doctor make any adjustment to your medications? Has anyone else had such an experience with this one? Im wondering if, after 10 years, it may be losing efficacy, because your body has gotten too used to it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including itching, burning, stuffy or runny nose.
1 REPLY UpdatedI'm on Xolair for my asthma and I also have liver damage from a blood transfusion, which gave me Hep C. Does this medication cause more damage? I just did a12week treatment with Harvoni. ## Hello, Diane! How are you? I'm sorry about your health issues. It may, Xolair is processed by the liver and should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function or damage. Is your doctor monitoring you regularly? The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as including pain, fatigue, earache and dermatitis. Have you discussed your concerns with your doctor? Are you on any other medications?
1 REPLY UpdatedI have been on xolair for over a year now. After the first 3 months of treatment, I lost a lot of hair during the next few months. Much more than the normal nightly loss but doctor denied that xolair had anything to do with it. I know better. Hair loss stabilized around the 6 to 7 month period. I'm very lucky to have had a lot of hair to begin with or I could have been bald by now. ## Hello, Mark! How are you? Hair loss has been noted by the FDA as being reported in post-approval use. Since it's not listed among the typical side effects that were compiled pre-approval, then your doctor may not be aware of it. Other side effects are listed as possibly including dizziness, ear pain, joint/muscle pain and dry mouth. I'm glad it stabilized for you. Are you back to your normal lo...
