If anyone else experienced these symptoms, how long after being off the xarelto did symptoms go away?
Has anyone experienced neuropathy and muscle weakness after taking Xarelto for an extended period?
Re: Anne (# 3)
Do research into Xarelto and find out what you can, maybe call the company issuing it. You could try Eliquis instead, it might work better for You. I've been on it for a year (2.5 mg 2 x a day) and find there are some side effects but all drugs have them. Eliquis is quite expensive, even with medicare coverage, because there is no generic for it yet, it was FDA approved in 2012 and quite new.
Hi. I have been on low dose aspirin for three months now; the previous six months I was on Xarelto, the CT scan showed the clots had gone from my lungs. I have been back to my GP on various occasions because I’m feeling my breathing is a bit tight. He has given me a referral to get another Ct scan, he doesn’t think the clots are back but just to make sure,
I know anxiety cause a lot of problems. I do have a muscle pain on my right side from my waist up. I can walk and sit, ok it’s the sleeping on my side that is the worse, I was gardening this week and did I hurt, my back was agony.
I am still on aspirin and will be forever, I’m trying to relax as much as I can. If the scan shows I need to go on blood thinners I will not go on Xarelto, or the other one. My friend has been prescribed one for DVT in her leg and A-FIB the specialist has prescribed one I haven’t heard of before. I did write here to ask about it but got no reply.
Yes, you can get pains in your joints as well as muscle pain, dizziness. And stress.
Pradaxa is another blood thinner I heard about today with antidote if you bleed. Why isn’t this medication used and not Xarelto? There doesn’t seem to be side effects with this one reading people who are on it. My friend has been prescribed this this week for AF and a clot in her thigh. I have been on aspirin now for a few weeks. I was taken off Xarelto because my PE was clear of clots after 6 months on Xarelto. If I need to go back on blood thinners if these clots return would Pradaxa do the same as Xarelto without the side effects of others?
Re: Nigel (# 39)
Hi Nigel, I didn’t have a back pain from Xarelto, it’s now I’m having problems since being on Aspirin. Muscle problems, my main problem now is feeling light headed, I’m on 100mg cartia Aspirin, and BP medication.
I have been off Xarelto about 8months now, I do have osteoathritis that is present now, I saw my Haematologist today, and she wants me to stay on Aspirin, but if any more clots in my lungs I will have to go back on Xarelto, She said to take panadol, that is only pain killers I can take because of aspirin. Everyone is different, give your back time, see a physio, they would be your best bet, Every day is different, some days it’s hard to get up from a sitting position, once I’m on my feet I’m ok, I won’t be seeing the Haematologist again just my GP. She also said the de diner is not used anymore for checking the clots mine last time taken was .5 down from 5.3, it should be under 5.
I was on xarelto for 1 month and stopped due to intense pain in the groin area. The dr doesn’t believe xarelto is the cause and asked me to go back on it and see after one week how I’m doing. The groin pain is slowly returning along with lightning pain in my right calf while sleeping at night.
Re: Hefina (# 36)
Hi, I was on Xarelto for 4 months due to DVT in right leg. The back pain (which is listed as a side effect in the information leaflet in the box) started within a month. I have been off Xarelto for a month now but no change in back pain. Anti inflammatory meds have no effect. Hot and cold treatment is temporary. I wonder how long does the pain continue?
Re: JMJ (# 37)
Google new fda rulings on xarelto maintenance dosages on the internet. Xarelto isn't perfect, but it is the best drug in its class......Talk to your doctor and find out if 10mg a day works for you......Best of luck.
Re: SPARKY (# 27)
Sparky, thank you for your suggestion. I had an aneurysm in my shoulder which threw clots into both of my arteries in my right arm. Almost lost the arm. Took a 71/2 hour surgery removal of muscle in neck, and two ribs to fix. I am sooooo afraid of going off this med, but I also have cerebellum brain damage and fall, alot. I am also scared of the bleed factor on this med. I was considering asking to stop the med, after one year and issues resolved, but maybe I will take your suggestion and ask for a reduction instead. My circulation in right arm is very poor due to damage done by the clots. It was a very painful condition I would hate to revisit. I think reducing mgs may be the ticket. May reduce the bleed threat and ensure I don't developed another clot. That would be win, win. Yep. Gonna see vascular surgeon about that. Thanks Sparky. JMJ
Re: Annette (# 30)
Yes I have about two weeks now, I have more pain now in my knees and hip area than when I was on them. I feel every day is different, good one day not so good another. The clots had all gone, I did ask the dr the other day should I go back on Xarelto, he said not because if I fell I could get a bleed on my brain. Otherwise I have to stay on Cartia Aspirin. I also read that it takes up to two years before recovering from a PE. Every day I wish i was back to normal. Who knows every day brings it closer to feeling well again. Thanks Annette for asking about how I feel.
Well am off Xarelto after six month on them, I had a clear CTS and have been put on 100mg of cartia aspirin. The same week that I came off Xarelto and onto Cartia I experienced breathlessness, so I made an appointment with my GP today. He said the clots has gone and the clotting fig was negative too. .03 if it was .05 I would be still on Xarelto. This week off Xarelto my knee is hurting (knee replacement knee) it never did before Xarelto. My back too is hurting I can't put my weight on my knees. My GP said to me he wanted me off Xarelto now because the risk of me falling and I could bleed, at 77 it is highly possible I'm at risk to do that. I'm suffering from anxiety too because I'm scared stiff of developing another clot. Talking to my GP today has put my mind at ease. I will find after a couple of weeks my second blood clotting test will be still low and I'm hoping these aches and pains will go. Yes there are bad side effects but I didn't experience some of the sufferings many have in this forum.
I read yesterday that it takes a year or two to recover from a blood clot, a PE and others. Not what the Doctors tells you,
It's very well to send you home with blood thinners and say that you are ok. You are not, side effects are the problem.
I wish everyone here still on Xarelto to Keep with it until you find your clots have gone, then decide what you want. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Re: Annette (# 28)
It will be 6 months this coming April, seeing the hematologist on the 3rd and a CT scan too. I looked up what Serena Williams the tennis player was given for her PE after having the baby, when she couldn’t get her breath she knew what it was since having clots before and demanded a CT scan. She had a Caesarean and she was coughing, they found a pool of blood in her stomach; an inj. was given to her. I never had one in the hospital. My Dr was surprised they didn’t give me one. I’d still like to know what she is taking now if she is prone to clots. Anyone else know? Because I certainly would have what she is taking.
Re: Annette (# 30)
Hi, yes I’m still here. I asked the Doctor the other day if he thinks the clots have gone? He said they give it 6 months to disappear. I told him I was feeling anxious and no doubt I was very worried about them. My side effects differ every day Annette, I’m 78 going on 79 this year. Sore knees are still there, dizziness accompanied by tinnitus & tightness in my chest. My main worry is this anxiety. The Dr has asked me to take an anti-anxiety pill. Because those who have had a stroke are always suffering anxiety after one. (I haven’t had a stroke) but I think he thinks those with PE would feel anxiety too. Up to date the back of my throat is red and my throat clearing is not coming from my chest he said. I’m on Amoxicillin for a few days and it has improved (laryngitis). I still say feeling anxiety is to do with taking Xarelto. But I feel coping with Xarelto is far better than feeling anxious. I will come back after I get my result after 6 months are up in April. My back is ok now. {edited for privacy}. Yesterday was a good day, but today was so so.
Re: Linda (# 12)
I had an Ablation procedure done in April 2017 for A-Fib, and the Dr put me on Xarelto. I have had extreme pain in my left ankle & could hardly walk for the last yr. Kept me up most of the night with the pain. Long story short, I ran out of Xarelto a month ago & called my heart Dr to see if he'd change my prescription to something else, but he wasn't in. Got 2 wks worth of pills till they could talk to Dr about it. They didn't get back with me & on the 4th week my pain disappeared!! That's been the last 5 days pain free!! I've spent thousands of $$ on a custom made brace, MRI's, XRays, therapy, you name it & since I ran out of Xarelto, I'm absolutely pain free!!
My experience is that there was significant improvement in 2-3 days after going off the Eliquis and switching to 5 mg. of Coumadin. In two weeks I was a new person, able to go on treadmill for one hour at 4 MPH. Could have gone much longer. When I was on the Eliquis for 6 months, I could barely climb on my treadmill. Also had fogginess. Coumadin is not perfect, but for me, it has been a Godsend.
Re: Hefina (# 18)
Hefina? Are are you still there!? I would like to hear how you are doing?
And? How long were you on it to begin with? 6 mos?
HAVE YOUR DOCTOR REDUCE YOUR XARELTO TO 10MG A DAY IF DOPPLER SHOWS NO MORE DVT OR PE; NEW FDA STUDY SHOWS 10MG ONCE A DAY IS SUFFICIENT FOR CONTROL AFTER SIX MONTHS AT 20MG-----MOST SIDE EFFECTS (BLOODY NOSE, BACKACHE, ETC) SHOULD SUBSIDE OR BE LESS SEVERE. DON'T QUIT XARELTO ENTIRELY AS YOU WILL PUT TOURSELF AT RISK FOR RELAPSE.......
Re: Annette (# 25)
Taking xarelto every other day is an interesting concept. I had wondered if I was just getting too much in my system, but there is no testing and they look at you as crazy for even worrying about it.
