Yes-what is the major difference between these 2 meds? I have taken xanax for several years. I'm thinking abt. changing to Buspar. Can you switch meds like these without tapering off the xanax. Does Buspar help w/ Panic attacks?
I've been diagnosed & misdiagnosed since I was 12 yrs old. The sum of it all is nervousness & anxiety also lacking the ability to stay focused or concentrate..which brings on an anger "issue". I'm 26yrs now. I have been prescribed Xanax,Lamictal&prozac for the most part of 6 yrs...my dr. Has to have all her patients off narcotics of any kind bc of some new enforced rules for all Johnson mental health branches.. I was taking 1mg twice daily& last month she lowered it to 1mg split in hlf daily,(it didn't really work out)at all! So, this month I'm supposed to only take .5 mg a day plus she added buspar 5mg. Nxt month , ill get 15 Xanax .5 then it's the buspar and the other 2 meds ( not to mention the lamictal & Prozac have not been at all beneficial)... I'm all for getting off Xanax bc it's a hassle just thinking of all the negative baggage it comes with but if this buspar doesn't work with the horrific withdrawals from Xanax then what? I can't just lay in the bed & sweat, cry, scream& carry on bc I'm married with a family w kids to care for all their needs... I need some honest advice! Seriously some advice from someone who has been through this & speaks bluntly from experience.. I can do without all the sugar coating just some advice on how I should handle this as far as the length of time I'm looking at and the amount of Xanax she has perscribed& I'm saying I do not want to do dealings otherwise. Please help me somebody if possible??
Thanks for sharing I am on both for GAD and depression and I take both meds.
Buspar was originally developed to treat depression, but it proved better at treating anxiety. Just goes to show that they invent s*** that they don't even know what will do. I went to see a new psychiatrist and ask to be put on a lower dose of Xanax, which evidently I'm the only person in the history of the world to do that. Well, she misunderstood and put me on 1/2 mil twice a day, from 2 mil twice a day. Needless to say that severe drop in dose caused havoc. Yesterday I had to fight with her to get back to my original dose and originally she refused, so I asked her to read my record for once. She finally relented and put me on 3 mi. trice a day, still a long way from 6 mil, but better. I don't take the Xanax like that, I only take it when I need it. She also insisted I take Busbar, 5 mg 3 times a day. Now I ask you, I asked for less drugs and come out with an additional prescription. How is this good?
I am 62 years old. I started on xanax at age 22. At one time i was taking 4 or 5 5 mg per day. About 5 years ago i decided to wein myself off the xanax. I gradually cut back on them over about a years time. I am now down to .25 mgs a day. But to show you how addictive xanax is, if i.dont take the .25 mgs a day, i go through withdrawal. I have body jerks and i get real disoriented. Im actually went to the doctor to see why i was jerking likechicken and he said it was withdrawal from ghe
I understand competley... I have been addicted to Opaites for 9 yrs now. but thankfully, I nvr once got addicted or abused my xanax prescription. I am now recieving treatment for the opaite addiction and they want me to tlk to my phyciatrist about switching me to Buspar bc Methadone and xanax together can cause Sudden death. Does buspar work for you? Does it help calm yur anxiety and panic attacks etc? && Do you think if I tell my phyc. Dr about me going to the clinjc, the addiction ETC, do you thinks thats a bad move? I seen where you anf others posted about bc of your drugpast, it was hard to get a xanax script . So if I tell my doctor, and the.buspar DOES NOT HELP, I will be screwed in the long run bc they may nvr put me on xanax again :( I really need advice..
I have been prescribed xanax for 6 yrs now. And I recently sought help for an Opiate Dependency. They put me on methadone and they also want to me to talk to my Phyciatrist, to see if he can switch me to Buspar. Since there is such a High rate of sudden death when mixing Xanax and methadone. I was nvr addicted to xanax & I have nvr had xanax withdrawals, I only took them as needed, even tho my dr said take it 2x daily. but it really helped w my panic attacks. My question is: Will buspar help with my p.a and anxiety? I kno it does not contain Benzo and its weaker. Aslong as it helps some, I will be fine and feel confident about talking to my doctor about switching. If it dnt help, I will be so lost bc I cant stop taking opiates by myself. And also, I can not control my panic attacks on my own or with therapy alone. :(Thanks.
You are not alone in your thinking,it's been my experience as well.I've suffered from GAD my whole life and only recently became educated about what it is.I self medicated with everything I could get my hands on,never getting much relief, only hell from the side effects, until I was given zanax to be able to get on the airplane home from a trip to Fl I made.It worked unlike any drug I had ever taken, but good luck in getting a script, with my drug past, they won't give me one.I too am in my late 50's and don't care about being dependent. It sux the way things are,I don't have any good answers.
TERBY, I WAS HOOKED ON XANAX AND VALIUM FOR OVER 30 YEARS. A GOOD DUAL DIAGNOSIS ORIENTED IN PATIENT TREATMENT CENTER CAN GET YOU OFF THE MEDS IN 2 WEEKS. WEKIVA IN JACKSONVILLE FL IS ONE. THE VA SENT ME AND PICKED UP THE WHOLE TAB....JAMES
Hi there! I have been on Xanax for 2 years. I am tired of taking it. I just want to be normal again. But the withdrawls are so severe that I can't function. I take 2 mg, 2 times daily. The dr. Put me on Buspar last year, but it did not work immediately, so I stopped. I called a rehab in Mexico, and the Dr. There told me to take 400 mg. of Neurontin Daily. So I tried the neurontin and gave up. I got back on Xanax. Now I just want to be clean and. BAck to my old self. I have been taking the Buspar and Neurontin that I had last year. My head feels fuzzy, and I am dizzy and clumbsy. But at least it keeps the withdrawls at bay. I just want to know which drig is better for me to take. Buspar or Neurontin. I hope someone can help me!
IVE BEEN ON VALIUM AND XANAX FOR 40 YEARS. I WAS JUST DETOXED FOR 28 DAYS INPATIENT. ALL THAT TIME I LIVED IN A WILDERNESS OF DRUGS. IVE FOUND THAT XANAX RESULTS IN THE INCREASE OF DEPRESSION FOR ME. I WAS SPENDING MOST OF THE DAY IN BED AND CONTIMPLATING SUICIDE WHEN I WENT INTO THE HOSPITAL. ITS BEEN AN ENLIGHTENING TIME. IF YOU ARE PRONE TO ADDICTION XANAX WILL GRAB YOU. IF YOUR NOT, STILL KEEP AWAY BECAUSE THE BRAIN HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND LIKES THAT STUFF. XANAX IS POISON IN MY BOOK BECAUSE IT WORKS SO WELL. I THINK IT SHOULD BE A SCHEDUL 2 MED. IM CURRENTLY ON BUSPAR AND ANTI DEPRESSANTS, NON OF WHICH ARE RE4ALLY ADDICTING. DONT START DOWN THE XANAX ROAD IS MY WARNING TO EVERYONE...JAMES
buspar helps me as well. it does make you drowsy in the beginning, however once in your system that goes away. it makes me very calm and "mellow" . like most meds each individual is different and it takes experimenting to find which is suited to your individual needs. actually, I take buspar with ashwaghana, a totally natural and organic supplement. works wonders for anxiety.
This is the best advice you will ever get. Listen to the Dr. Seek treatment there is some type of event in your life that you may have blocked out probably in childhood. Use medication with therapy and eventually you won't need the meds. I know all this from experience.
Hi! I have the same problem as you! I am so sensitive to medication that when I take something that says "may cause drowsiness" knocks me out for hours. I recently had my doctor prescribe me Buspar for anxiety and Trazadone for sleep. From what I have read of the side effects and what other people have experienced, I'm afraid to take these meds as I was on Zoloft for over 10 years and the withdrawals from that were horrendous! I asked the doctor for something similar to xanax that is not addicitve and is used for long-term. I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety, depression and PTSD from childhood and a past relationship. Any suggestions?
these drs are scum i feel your pain nd know what your going through all they care about is protectiung their own ASS not the real needs of the patient youre fifty years old nd if u need the only thing that works for u then damn it give the woman her medicince instead of this bulls*** buspar ............. tell them u allergic to it or omething ... all i can say or dr shop until u find the right dr.
Hi, I also developed panic disorder during menopause, and it nearly became incapacitating before I finally got some drug therapy. I also have a family history, with cousins and other female relatives who have had (and some continue to have) bouts with this syndrome(?). I am now on Klonipin and Metoprolol, and may also add an SSRI since I've had some depression w/ these drugs I think. You may have better luck getting Klonipin which is a less addictive benzo than Xanax if you go to an anxiety specialist.
I feel the same way i dont snort it it but i do feel high off it lol
Hi Veronica, If your present Dr. refuses to give you a script for Xanax have you thought about changing Dr's. Also, vets write out this script for anxious dogs. Don't accept whats being dished out to you get out there and get what you need and what.
Buspar makes everyone in my family the reverse of what it should do.
You can get something at the.vitamin shoppe called L-Theanine. Ive used it for attacks and helps me tons. Its pretty cheap too, some refer to it as natures xanax.
I suffer from anxiety and depression and have been taking buspar and citalopram from a couple years. They are used together to balance me out, buspar for anxiety and citalopram for depression, they bring me to a more normal level. The thing with these medicationsb is it takes up to a month to let it fully build up in your system to get the most out of it. Every person reacts to medication differently, so what works for one may not work for the next, but before you write it off completely you have.to let it build up and find the right dosage, and your dosage.needs may change over time. If you are having disturbing side effects your dosage.may be to high. When i started the citalopram it made me unable to properly function, so my dr told me to cut the tablet in half and i had no further issues. Just because you dont have the immediate effects you want doesnt mean it wont work. Buspar is designed to prevent you from havibg so many panic attacks once built up in your system. And if you start having more stress you may need to up your dose. I tried to quit smoking and had to up my dose because nicotine affects your brain in a verysmilar way to buspaar with a much faster and shorter effect. There are many influnces you have to take into account when starting a medication.
