Xanax Not Being Prescribed

I have been on Xanax for 15yrs. New provider doesnt want to keep prescribing it, why is he telling me its going to be taken off the market so I should back down now !!! WHAT???? IS THIS TRUE? I have no complaints. I am able to calm my panic attach because of the Xanax.
???? What is your professional opinion? I will not be staying with this new doctor who clearly doesnt understand how wondetful Xanax is

Xanax is many things, but wonderful is really not one of them? Look for a new provider?

The FDA has not made any official announcements on their website's list of drug discontinuations. So my theory is that your doctor just doesn't want to prescribe that type of medication anymore; probably for very personal reasons and understandably so. In my opinion the benefits of Xanax aren't worth the risk factors and it sounds like your doctor may feel the same way. Hopefully the next physician you visit will see things in another light. How long have you been with this current doctor?

A dr cant cut u off after 15 years- that is gonna require a possibly multiple year taper. Google "ashton method" for the only healthy withdrawal method.

LeeLee, my doctor called me last week and told me that as of January 1st, no more Xanax...Valium or anymore Benzo's will be prescribled and wants to give me Atarax. I googled it and found this to be true in Maine and in Mass. but for Opioids but Benzo.'s were mentioned as well...more of a tapering off...look for my post "Xanax not being around after Jan.1st- Atarax instead Help" and hopefully my 2nd post (which I just posted about 15 min.s ago), will have shown up as I did include a link with it. The new law article was posted April 20, 2016. Or google something about 'Maine and new law on Opioids being removed', like I said, Benzo's were mentioned in it as well. Take care and good luck~

But you live in North Carolina. Please stop spreading this misinformation. In Maine Opioid medication will be restricted after the first of the year, big deal?

What's where I live have to do with anything as far as LeeLee (actually anyone), is concerned? Plus as I've already said in the thread I started, my doctor...In North Carolina, also said as of January 1st, we will not be getting them either! Hmm... I did not see where he posted where he lives, meaning how do you know where he lives? It very well could be Maine or Mass. or even my State. What Misinformation am I spreading? Did you read the link? For that matter, have you read all of what I posted? It seems like you haven't since I said, that Benzo.'s are brought up in the article too, just not in the title! Please stop accusing me of something I am not doing!

Yes. My dr. Just told me it'd being discontinued. I was diagnosed with ptsd. I don't know how they can put everyone into one pot and say your done. I understand people abuse it. But I take it as prescribed. I asked Kolodapin or ativan can't have thateither. I know if this is stopped immediately people can have seizures, stroke or heart attack. I don't understand

Cynthia, you might have had these problems obtaining the medicine you need and it most certainly could have to do with the location you live in. I have had no problems at all, the South has cut down on Benzo & Pain pill usage

It’s now 2023. Alprazolam/Xanax is still being prescribed. I just heard today from my doctor that the DEA wants doctors to cut patients in half of their prescribed alprazolam. I’m curious as to what you saw change from your last post in 2018? I’ve been on it for 13 years. Never abused. Go to all of my appts. This terrifies me. My doctor said to use buspar and hydroxyzine and I said, “you know those do nothing for my anxiety. They aren’t xanax.” She said it’s not her trying to punish us and I agree but I’ve been hearing this rumor for years. If I don’t have my anxiety med I do not think I can make it. I’m on disability for my mental health. How do they justify this stopping? It’s so unfair. Who can I ask to get a more precise answer as my doctor did mention this years ago. Should I start weaning off now?

I would disagree. I've been on Xanax 3/day as needed for almost 20 years and Valium before that. I've never abused them or run out. My dr. knows this so he doesn't have a problem with it. They can spot the abusers. It does have valid medical uses.
