Withdrawal From Vyvanse Experience (Page 6) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been on Vyvanse for 4 weeks and I am now tapering off. I was going to quit cold turkey , but I wke up this morning and felt like I'd been hit by a truck. It's been a few hours and I still feel like I have a mild case of the flu. Anyway, I started 4 weeks ago and the first 3 days I never felt better in my life. I 'd never been so productive, focused, and organized! By day 7 , I was back to my normal under- acheiving, scrammbled , self. Then my Dr. raised my dose from 30 mg to 50. Well this threw me into severe anxiety. I have been chewing my nails till they bleed. I can't seem to stop. I have a feeling of being completely overwhelmed, my house is trashed and it's driving me nuts, but I have no energy or drive to get up and clean it.....Can anyone else out there relate to this?

I'm on 20mgs adderall non Xr for instant boost, vyvanse takes up to 1 and half hours to start working and I was prescribed 2, 70mg vyvanse in the morning and 2 more in mid afternoon. Now my muscles are detierearating I've I feel like someone 500lbs that lost 200lbs in a month and its like my skin doesn't fit ive lost so much muscle I see a chiropractor now and can hardly move without something poping or shifting out of place now. My waist got weak that in xrays it show my chest is actually smashed into my hips and can't hardly move from stiffness and I get 4, 10mg Valium daily but my benzo. Tolerance is off the chart. They do nothing. Now that is a severe case of doctor prescription abuse and gets me refills early and I tried three 70 mg vyvanse a day and an adderall 30mg XR instead of the forth vyvanse and after two weeks I went back to the four vyvanse and I have like half a month supply of both drugs and a new month worth of four vyvanse a day. Now this is f***ing crazy. Suggestions?

I am currently 17 years old and was diagnosed with severe ADD when I was 7. At age 7, I first started out on Adderall and lost 20 pounds. My doctors were very concerned and I had to go on special diets to gain back the weight. I am currently 5'9 and weigh 125 pounds. I've been on medication for 10 years, and until I was 14 my mom started to notice I was becoming dependent on ADD medication in general. I've taken Adderall for 3 years, 54 mg of Concerta for 4 years, and now 50mg of Vyvanse for 3 years. Typically I would just take my medication for school only, so my mom would take me off on the weekends. Now I take it every single day because when I don't, I sleep all day, my appetite increases, I can't think straight AT ALL and have an immense lack of energy. Having been on medication for 10 years has definitely made its mark... I am more dependent on Vyvanse for energy now than I am for the ADD. In addition, Vyvanse has had a major impact on my emotional state of mind. I'm always on a rollercoaster of emotions being happy and content one moment, to being super depressed and angry. Not sure if it's just me being a hormonal teenage girl, but I find the medication has definitely amplified my feelings. What I have found is that if I were to not take my medication for a day, I have to intake a lot of protein that day and get a lot of sleep the night before. Deal with the ADD later and instead focus on boosting your energy level in a healthy and natural way.
BUT is it dangerous for my body to be dependent on ADD medication? Will I have major complications later in life? After all, I've been medicated for 10 years...

Man I agree with you,I have been opiate addict for over12 years, oxy, hydro, all that.i finally got on suboxone,so I have not taken any pain meds like oxy or anything in 5 years.i am down to 8mg of suboxone used to be 16mg.My psychiatrist is great, after he got all my history from where I was diagnosed at 6 and was only treated here and there growing up.he said I used opiates to self medicate, and it worked for awhile.i broke back that's how I got on them.so I'm 37 now Dr started me on lowest dose of vyvanse 20mg,finally everything is great,I'm at 50mg vyvanse now, also 8 suboxone,1mg klonopin 3 T.I.D. Zoloft 50,75mg seroquel as needed for sleep.all these people complaining how bad it is,like u it changed my life.my family enjoys me again, making drug free friends, some church.met a beautiful woman,I am finally organized,I started daily schedule,I'm on disability so I have to stay busy,I used to never leave my couch.t.v. All day.Im not accusing but I think some folks complaining here take to much, and run out early.it is a wonderful medication.not saying all but if the ones who are playing would take it right, all these problems could or would pass.but I wish the best for everyone

Pancakes I too have been through opiate withdrawal and it took me 6 months to feel normal. I found it worked the first week then your body gets used to it so started taking double 120 mgs/day and doubled my welbutron as well to 600/mgs a day. Im on clonazapam for the anxiety it gives you. I'm a little nervous cause I doubled up so I have to go two weeks without it. But I agree if I've been through opiate withdrawal this should be peanuts. A lot of others posting have no clue so it makes sense they get nervous. Im a little nervous but Ive come off it before and you basically feel hungover for 3 or 4 days. Tired depressed and a little confusion:) Don't panic people its not that bad. Oh yea a few nightmares too. This is my first time trying it with vivance.

You all don't even know. I'm now on 20mg Adderall non XR in the morning, 2 vyvanse twice a day so 4, 70mg's, four 2mg xanax bars, 150 zoloft, dropped the 40mg viibrid, lyrica 75mg two a day, robaxin muscle relaxer two 4 times a day 500mg's each so 4000mgs a day, and 800mg's of seroquel at night. And where I live (moved to gay indiana cuz its cheap as ****) and on ssi, ssdi, so both, and medicaid and medicare. But indiana state just passed new major restrictions on opiates and its so freaken stupid that im trying to move to a new state cause even the Pain Clinics here are either too scared to write scripts for anything opioid related or they aren't even allowed to anymore cause every doctor has to be licensed through the state, then they are closely monitored by the state and if they even give one vicodin a day, they can lose they're carrier if they dont make you wait about four months for check ups, shots, ct's,MRI, x-rays, eeg's,emg's,ssep, and if They have alot of patients needing pain killers for legit reasons, they stop and cut people off cause the state starts asking why they are giving out too many opiates and then probe around and shut them down lately. Its soo stupid. Oh and you need a U.A monthly for Any narcotics, sign a contract that u won't abuse or sell them and agreed to drug checks sometimes random calls to come in a week or two early and they suprise you and u need to do the triple scripts for narcotics now,aka paper script then they have to call it in to the exact pharmacy you use, then the pharmacy has to call Your doctor and confirm its not faked or that they did they actually give it to you. And I'm from chicago and 28, 5 car accidents, 3 at over 100mph and 3 day coma and other stupid stuff thats hurt me and I can't geteven a vicodin a day and I'm trying out the third new pain clinic doctor in 4 months cuz two said they use alternative treatments and dont prescribe narcotics for pain and one guy gave me shots of a steroid named kenalog in my neck and low back muscles(I found out after he did it, it was kenalog) and he literally just said Hey if ur in pain let me give you some shots, and since then ive lost motor control of neck and low back, equalibrium aka balance is gone and lost 30lbs in 2 months and see a chiropractor twice a week oh and i went to the hospital ER six times in December for severe neck and back pain and not one time was I examined or even touched by the doctors and three times each doctor right away said (I dont prescribe narcotics for pain) the third time I replied with Then what do you prescribe? Gummy bears and skittles?so if broke my arm you would what? Give me Advil? And every six times I sat the rooms for four hours then was treated like i had lepracy or a freaken drug addict when I told them I didnt care about narcotics I need help! And each time sent home with no diagnostics or even moving from the tables or whatever and sent home with 9 flexeril 5mg so three days and i was on norco 10s and 180 a month and tramadol and 10mg flexeril four times a day then i was on every pain killer I swear and fentynol patch .50 every 72 hours for almost two years. Then I came to indiana and had to withdrawal hardcore from the patches and Ive withdrawled from every type of drug and the patches were the worst and put me in the hospital and Ive been here 5 years and have managed to only get muscle relaxers. This state is f***ed. Can anyone top all that? : )

I want to validate the people who feel flu like symptoms, sweats and eye pain. I was on 40mg daily and it was helpful but I was taken off suddenly because of concerns about cardiac hx in my family. I have been sick for several days and feel extremely sick. I did not find anything about this is the literature. My advise is to consider a slow progression off this drug. I am going to try a homeopathic tx and will not use any of these drugs again.

Beth,
I am so sorry to hear about your struggles. There are alternatives to these medications but if you can find a doctor that is knowledgeable and open to discussion it is helpful. I know it must be very hard for you being a teen. I encourage you to learn about other things you can do in addition to your treatment such as meditation, artwork etc.., but most of all believe you can get better. Take the energy you have with your anger and try to place it somewhere else that would help you such as reasonable exercise, tai chi etc... Don't give up...you are a valuable person and can get better.

I have been on Vyvanse for 2 months now. My dose is at 50 mg and it will probably be going to 60 mg on my next visit. I am now able to to so many things that I was unable to do before. I decide today to not take my dose so my body would have a chance to detox a little. BUT I am experiencing a lot of nausea. Does anyone have a suggestion for me that would help? I also want your opinion on taking weekends off.. Thanks to anyone who might help

This is very helpful. I am 24 and work full time and go to college. I have been taking vyvanse ever since its been on the market. It is amazing and sometimes a blessing but it also is a crutch. I take it during the work week for energy and focus due to ADD and it helps but I find myself needing breaks from it, it makes my heart race and makes me nervous, anxious, and different than i normally am. I worry about being on meds forever and I dont want to take ANYTHING while pregnant so I am wondering if I should stop taking within the next few months or wait til i am finished with school? I am worried I wont be able to function without it. But I think after the withdraws are over, I may have a chance to not rely on it like I always have. Please give me some advice. I know I will be tired without it. I can sleep all weekend because I never take it on weekends. Its not healthy.

Hi! I just switched TO Vyvanse approx 9 months ago it's done GREAT for me however if it isn't working for u, u can always ask ur doctor if they would switch u to time released dextromethphetamine that is all Vyvanse is except Vyvanse is coated in an amino acid making it hard to abuse (ONLY way to abuse it is eating too many. u cannot IV, or insufflate it and feel hi because it ONLY works when digested And the amino acid is stripped away from the dextromethphetamine in your system otherwise it will NOT cross the blood brain barrier. Also because of this, it Is MUCH longer acting than regular time released dextromethphetamine (the most common generic ones come in capsules with the waxy beads inside), those usually are recommended between 2-4 times daily depending on ur dosage while vyvanse is usually 1 time daily, sometimes 2 depending on the person because of the above explained digestive reasons makin it longer acting. Hope that helps maybe your doctor would switch u? Not sure. Good luck! :)

I ran out of vynase and was off for seven days. Dizziness from vertical to upright was awful and at other times. Also more depressed. Refill and day 2 the brain tumor that was causing the dizziness I think was just withdrawal! THANK you GOD! Love the clear thinking this drug gives even at 58!
