Withdrawal Symptoms Belviq (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've taken belviq twice a day for 3 months (i think- one bottle worth). I didn't refill the RX and now, 4 days later I'm very dizzy and heart is racing. Is this withdrawal from Belviq? I can't find anything online about it.
I have experiencing the same withdraw symptoms. Racing heart, headache, shaking, and irritability and I was only on Belviq 6 weeks. How long will this last???
YES...I went through the SAME thing, except along with disorientation, severe sweating and heart palpitations... I was scared for my life...I saw my doc and had him order tests for me to see what was going on. I knew right away it was withdrawl because I filled my next script the next morning and my scary symptoms disappeared... still took me a few days to feel back to normal though....And now, I'm terrified to stop belviq for fear of what might happen. Long story short, there ARE withdrawl symptoms, but the public is misinformed...just don't take it unless you must.
I have headaches and exhausted after 4 days without belviq. I too have been taking for 3 months 2 x a day.
I have been off belviq for a week and my heart rate was 183 beats per min for over 20 minutes. Having bad migraines and palpitations and fast heart rate. Feel horrible It's the only thing I've changed.
My best guess is that the symptoms will go away in 4-5 days from my 2 withdrawal experiences.
There are side effects to all meds. I quit taking all prescriptions except for thyroid and never felt better. Since I went off the diet pill, I have lost another 25 on my own, but it is a struggle without it.
I have experienced the same symptoms after being off belviq for 3 days. Belviq is highly recommended for people with type 2 diabetes and the patients are taken off when taking antiobesity drugs in conjunction with blood glucose–lowering medications—such as insulin and two classes of drugs, called sulfonylureas and meglitinides, which stimulate the release of insulin—is hypoglycemia. I suspect that when we all were on Belviq the medication leveled our blood sugar and being off of it the blood sugar dropped causing all of us to be HPERGLYCEMIC. I drank orange juice and a couple of dark chocolate squares and my symptoms subsided somewhat. I am back on Belviq but have a plan with my doctor to ween off slowly (take 1 daily for 5 days, reduce to 1 tab every other day, for two weeks etc). Hope this helps anyone reading this.
I had taken belvique for 2 months and ran out of pills a couple days later i was nauseated badly, throwing up with shakes it lated all day. I dont know if its withdrawal but it sure felt like it.
Sorry to hear about what you both are having to go through as a result of taking Belviq. I truly hope things are getting better day by day as the medication continues to leave your body... While I don't know if Belviq has been known to cause withdrawals or not, NIH.gov does list the following symptoms as side effects of Belviq (Lorcaserin):
dizziness
headaches
excessive tiredness
anxiety (which in my experience, can cause the heart to race)
Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a613014.html#side-effects
My thoughts following this information is that the symptoms are likely to subside overtime, especially if you're not taking the medication anymore; but it may still be a good idea to touch base with your doctor in the event that they become too bothersome or severe.
Hope this helps!
I called the pharmacist who suggested it was perhaps Serotonin Syndrome. I called the on call Dr at my PCP who didn't say much except that Belviq can cause those symptoms. I follow up with my Dr next week but I did feel normal 2 days after OP.
Thank you!
I had to go off Belviq because one of my doctors was afraid I was getting Serotonin Syndrome. I was on Belviq for over two years and just stopped 2 weeks ago and I am feeling really crappy. I am extremely achy all over and have headaches, stomach aches, racing heart, and I am much hungrier, of course. I told that doctor and she thinks I am going through withdrawal and that it takes a couple of months. If that's true, that seems long for something I didn't even know had withdrawal symptoms. On the one hand, I don't want to gain back the 35 pounds I lost, but on the other, I want to stop feeling this way..
Yes I feel better and look forward to picking up a refill that had to be ordered.
I've been on belviq for 17 months. I have been off of it for 6 days and feel terrible. Heart palpitations , anxiety, dizziness, tiredness and I am hungry more often. I finally got a refil but am wondering if I should go back on the belviq.
I have been on Belviq for about a year, have lost 125 pounds. Unfortunately I now have to come off since my BMI is below 30. Reading everyones horror stories, I was apprehensive. My Dr. decided on a taper down system. Week 1-2. 1 10mg pill in the morning, and half a pill in the evening. Weeks 3 and 4, half a pill in the morning and again in the evening. Week 5 and 6 half a pill in the morning. I am down to the half a pill a day and have had mild side affects coming off the drug. When it's time for you to quit, might ask your Dr. if this would be good for you
My symptoms mirror what you described. Doing better tonight, but have had a two day migraine with nervousness, a bit of brain fog and a little ringing in the ears.
Hi, I posted about a month ago, when I was forced to get off Belviq by my doctor because she was afraid I was beginning to get Serotonin Syndrome. I got definite withdrawal syndrome symptoms such as body aches, depression, anxiety, headaches and stomach aches. I continue to have such symptoms, but now I notice another problem has arisen because of the withdrawal of the medication. Now I have a strange eating/sleeping disorder called Sleeping Related Eating Disorder in which I wake up at night and eat. I often am unaware of how much I have eaten and sometimes even what I have eaten. I am not driven to eat because of hunger, but some people get this disorder from extreme dieting as well. It's not something I can really control because it is similar to sleep walking. There is probably a strong possibility that I got this strange disorder after quitting the Belviq.
I've only been on Belvique for 4 days and feel awful - bad headaches and very tired. I want to stop taking it cold turkey is that ok?
I went off Belviq last week cold turkey like my doctor said, and MAN did I pay for it. I had nausea, heart palps (and those lasted for like 6 hours) felt like it was getting a sore throat etc. I started back on it again and things relaxed. So I started partially getting of it. Taking one per day and today, I took none. So far no paps or racing heart but I have been running to the bathroom all day for movements. I would recommend that you not stop this drug cold turkey.
I started Belviq only 2 weeks ago and I've been getting heart palpitations; dizziness and headaches. I want to get off of them. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I will ween off of them if I get harsh reactions.
I've been taking it for 6 weeks with mild - serious side effects. Exhaustion doesn't begin to describe the lack of energy. I can't do this anymore. The last 2 days have been the worst, I sleep until noon, struggle to get out of bed and by the time I go to the bathroom and stand up I can feel the energy drain from my body like draining oil from a car. I've been pushing myself but yesterday and today were so bad I was up for only 2 hours and went back to bed, up for a couple of hours and back to bed again. I eat right and get a normal 7 - 8 hours of sleep. Something is really wrong. Today I had heart palps so bad I didn't take my last dose. Almost passed out in the shower. I have a heart murmur that's never caused me any issues and after having palpitations, high blood pressure and pulse for 8 hours, I'm done with it, withdrawals or not.
