Targin is a horrible stay away from it and tramadol is completey useless it's a shedule 4 prescription medicine hopeless for chronic pain at all and tramadol/tramal has terrible side effects such as seizures and convultions and mny more bad side effects that outweigh what little Benifets also it is not a real opioid it supposedly mimics what opiods to It binds to the U- opioid receptor in out brain and the second half of its actions are antidepressant properties It is mainly used for acute pain and very rarely used in chronic pain! Fentanyl patches are really good brilliant for pain hence the patch there is also jurnista active drug is hydromorphone it comes in 4mg 8mg 16mg 32mg and 64mg and one jurnista tablet is taken once every 24hours as it is a 24hr lasting tablet there is also an immediate release of hydromorphone for breakthrough pain called dilaudid and it comes on 2mg 4mg or 8mg tablets instant release there are lots of good ones on the market I know of if you have any quearys about any ask away Michelle I'm more than happy to tell you how the drug/medications worked

Targin is terrible Michelle it is made up of oxycodone good pain killer (its full opioid and naloxone not good to mix at all its a full opioid antagonist to reverse the effects of opiods they used it to treat overdoses ect! it shouldn't be in a pain medicine the Drs will say it's to help with constipation when in fact my dr told me that's a cover they use and it's for suspected abusers younger people or new patients being exposed to opiates ! it's not effective for chronic pain and hasn't undergone trials much at all. Palexia sustained release is a new one related to tramadol in the same family but stronger It's active ingredient is tapentadol bit of info below. I haven't tried it in it it's another new one Pharmacodynamics.

Tapentadol is a centrally acting synthetic analgesic combining opioid and nonopioid activity in a single molecule. It has 18 times less binding affinity than morphine to the human mu-opioid receptor but was only 2-3 times less potent in producing analgesia in animal models (on a dose per body weight basis). This low in vivo potency difference is consistent with its two mechanisms of action. Tapentadol has been shown to inhibit noradrenaline reuptake in the brains of rats resulting in increased noradrenaline concentrations. In preclinical models, the analgesic activity due to the mu-opioid receptor agonist activity of tapentadol can be antagonized by selective mu-opioid receptor antagonists (e.g. naloxone), whereas the noradrenaline reuptake inhibition is sensitive to noradrenaline modulators. Tapentadol exerts its analgesic effects directly without a pharmacologically active metabolite.

Spanky what country are you from ?? Correct the oxycontin reformulated does nothing at all for pain they only cause side effects that were not present in the original formula! We now have the original Formula in our country again they are great the 80mg work perfect they are just as good if not better than the original brand ones

U my freind are the fool let it sit in ur mouth and it turns to glue or even if u don't move it it stays whole and I fell a differnce so obviously the meds still get out yeah there not as good but just don't take anything and c how u feel let me know about 18 hours after u aint had any and we'll talk u can pop an op and I bet u get well

Dude we get the original OxyContin in generic formula! we also have the brand name OxyContin reformulated but it it complete s*** and has horrible side effects and provides no pain relief' our Drs only prescribe the OxyContin reformulated to people they think abuse meds or have history of abuse and give the good ones to decent people like myself and other people on the forum. I live in Australia and take Sandoz oxycodone 80mg 3x per day I get 84x per month it's the real deal based on the original formula they are awesome I'm so glad they came back! they were gone for only 6months in aus then we're back as to many complaints about the mundipharma brand name OxyContin. I also get 90 x 20mg instant release oxynorm per month with no apap with 3 x bottles of 2mg Xanax tri-score tablets every 2 months and also 5mg x 50 bottles of Valium. So why would you bother with the s*** ones and let them sit on your tounge and all that bulls***, the ones I get do not turn to gel lmao

Can someone please tell me if you can still get the old OxyContin in Austrslia. If so what do I say to the doctor ? I'm on 3 x 80 mg of the new formulae but they don't work. I'm struggling with chronic back pain due to many problems. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated. All I want is the old sort again. My doctor told me they are the same but they are not and I've had to go up from 2 a day to 3.

Shar57 you're incorrect, the new modified release Oxycontin is called Oxycodone Sandoz- that is the name of the medication. Its a slow release available in 20 40 60 & 80mg tablets. If doctors prescribe you Oxycontin-the name Mundipharma call their Slow Release Oxycodone, you can get the Sandoz Oxycodone -as long as the box that says no generic substitute allowed is NOT ticked. If that makes sense... If not im happy to answer any questions you have.

Thanks for replying Michelle and Shar. I think I will have to talk with my doctor about it. I will just explain, again, that the new formulae is crap. According to other posts the Sandox brand is similar to the old formulation.
Shar the box of new formula says OXYCONTIN modified release oxycodone hydrochloride 80 mg and the sticker with my name etc on it says OXYCONTIN TAB MR 80 MG 84 and in brackets underneath it says (OXYCODONE HYDROCHLORIDE)
so I'm confused because wouldn't that mean they are the same thing. I think that's what your saying isn't it Michelle?

Anyhow I will find out for sure on Thurs. I'm really hope this Sandox product is like the old sort of oxy's, I'm excited at the thought of being pain free and not sick in the tummy and I also am looking forward to having an appetite, which I haven't had since being on the new formula. The other thing I have noticed, which may or may not have anything to do with the new type, is my anxiety is sky high. Has anyone else had that side effect.
As I said before, thanks guys for taking the time to respond to my question. If your interested I will post on here to tell you how I went.

Hi Sandy, everything Michelle just said in her post is accurate. You shouldn't have any trouble obtaining the generic Sandoz Oxycontin. As Michelle said just tell the doctor not to put a tick in the box on the script that says 'no brand substitution permitted' - if this box has a tick in it, you will be given the 'reformulation' that you do not want, which is made by a pharmaceutical company called Mundipharma. The 'original' Oxycontin were also made by Mundipharma so you don't want those (and you can't get them, they only make the reformulation now) so be clear with you doctor what you want. The new generic which are the same medication as the original Oxycontin (before they reformulated it) are made by the pharmaceutical company called Sandoz.

I know that Priceline and Chemist Warehouse can get them in for you, or your usual pharmacy would be best and you should not have any problems as long as you ring the pharmacy and order them in a couple of days before you want them. You can order them in over the phone in advance, then you will just take the script in when you pick them up. Explain to your doctor that many of us with chronic pain have experienced awful side effects from the reformulation, including the medication not working properly. Many of us have changed over to the generic brand as they work the same as the original Oxycontin without all the terrible side effects of the reformulation.

Print this out to show the doctor to explain things if that would be easier for you. Stay with your current dose of three 80mg tablets per day. Observe your pain levels are then decide if you need to stay on this or maybe you will be able to go back to your original dose of two 80mg generic Sandoz Oxycontin per day.

Remember, Oxycontin stay in the body for five days so if you change your dose back down, it will take five days before you actually feel the change. The less you take, the less side effects you will have, which is always a good thing isn't it - as long as your pain is well controlled.

You may be pleasantly surprised because some of us feel the generic work better than the original, they do seem to last longer. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Cheers!

Hi again Sandy, just to say I think your anxiety is 'sky high' as you put it, because you are not getting the medication in your system as the coating on the tablet stops the medication from releasing as it is meant to. You could be experiencing mild withdrawals, which includes anxiety, restless legs, crawling feelings on the skin, no appetite etc.. when you get the new generic, you will go back to normal and the horrible tummy problems will be a thing of the past. I felt as if I had been given my life back.
Remember, as I said in my other post, order the generic Sandoz in with the pharmacist a couple of days before you need as you don't want to have to get another script for the reformulation which is making you feel ill. Most pharmacies need 48hours to get it in for you. Keep us posted and I hope you will read my reply to Shar57 so you are clearer about your medication.

Hi Sandy what i wrote & also Jay is correct. The new generic from Sandoz are actually called Oxycodone Sandoz -oxycodone hydrochloride 80mg 28 green modified-release tablets. Thats what is on the box i have it sitting in front of me while im typing just to make sure 100% they are slow release original formula of oxycontin. Many people have had terrible side effects from the reformulation which are made from a silicon material to stop tampering with them (mind you ive seen people posting about how they have got around this, which is very annoying for legit patients that have been through hell on the new formula) i agree with Jay also re anxiety, it sounds like you haven't been getting the full dosage due to tablet not breaking down completely (i found almost complete pills that hadn't metabolised many times) which may have caused you to have withdrawal symptoms. When you get the Sandoz brand it would pay to be careful & maybe just take 2 instead of your new dose, otherwise you may find its a lot stronger & risk symptoms such as drowsiness or even overdose on the full dose when you haven't been getting it all that time. If you have a regular pharmacist you should have no problems with them supplying the Sandoz to you & so long as your script allows brand substitution that will be fine. Shar the new formula actually was only released in Australia this year, coinciding with the patent mundipharma had finishing at this time after they had the whole market, the new formula gave them new patent & that's why this happened. Unlike other countries Australia had the foresight, to see that generic versions of original formula were needed. There are mundipharma oxycodene tablets that are normal release but they are in smaller dose, only up to 20mg. Mundipharma oxycontin was just the brand name chosen by the company to distinguish between the two. Im 100% positive of this information, I am extremely care with these medications & would never write something that was wrong its dangerous & could kill someone if they have inaccurate information. I hope you find the Sandoz help you get on top of your pain levels Sandy, please let us know how you get on.

Hi Shar, I did a prior post to you which seems to have disapeared so sorry if this info turns up twice. What I was saying is this: the medication called Oxycontin contains SR Oxycodone. SR means 'slow release' and all the forms of Oxycontin, the original, the reformulation and the generic contain slow release Oxycodone. Although it is meant to last for twelve hours, many find it does not and some take it eight hourly or even six hourly to cover for chronic pain twenty-four hours a day.

The idea of slow release is to avoid the 'peaks and troughs' that would occur with quick release by giving a continous measured dose. The quick release Oxycodone that last for four hours are known by the names Endone and Oxynorm, both come in 5,10, 15 and 20mg doses and are meant for urgent pain or for breakthrough pain when on the slow release form. All these drugs contain the narcotic, Oxycodone.

I needed to clarify this information so that Sandy and others do not get confused by your post, I hope this helps you to understand also. When you said that the reformulation has been out for three years, I wondered if you are in the USA? The reformulation came out in Australia about one year ago and the generic became available on the PBS (government subsidized medications) in December of 2014. I know that the generic we have is not available in the US unfortunately for many who are stuck with the awful 'reformulation'.

There certainly is a great difference between the generic Sandoz Oxycontin and the Mundipharma reformulated Oxycodone as the reformulation has the polyethylene oxide coating (to stop people from abusing the drug) and it is this coating that is making people sick. The new generic is as good as, if not better than, the original Oxycontin. Hope this clarifies things for you and for others because sharing of information is what this site is about, to help each other and I hope this post has helped anyone who was unclear about the different medications. Boy that is going to be confusing to people.
They needed to know to tell their doctors to write
OXYCODONE MODIFIED RELEASE
not just OXYCODONE. no?
I just feel so sorry for the peeps that have had to deal with when they first changed the formulation a few yrs back.
I think other co. Maybe starting to use this too in their slow release formulas.
I've read other post with peeps saying that.

Hey Shar its really not to confusing, all kinds of medications have a generic form with different name to original. The best thing to look at is not the brand name but the ingredient name (found under the brand name) doctors dont need to change your current script at all, they still prescribe it as Oxycontin so long as they dont mark the box that forbids a generic substitute. If that's marked you can only be supplied the Mundipharma Oxycontin reformulation.

All I was trying to say, is that it maybe called oxycodone, but in your post I didn't see anything about time release, in a later post u called it oxycodone modified release. As u know there is a diff between the 2
It looks as tho has Bern clarified now.

Shar, i think between all the posts from Jay & myself this is clear now, i hope so anyway? Do u take this medication yourself, if not why are you interested in this (for a family member, friend) ? Also what country are you in? Not every country have generics available (USA for ex), so it really makes a difference. People who are prescribed these sorts of long term medications usually have a clear idea of the difference between slow release & normal release forms & their doctors definitely do, in Australia you need to have a permit (which your doctor applies for & holds) from our governing body & must be reviewed/reapplied for each year. Then when picking up a monthly script the doctor rings for authority, they are very closely policed. People who take the slow release are usually long term chronic pain patients, the normal release are usually given to people on short term for acute pain & they are a much smaller dose. Chronic pain patients may also have these lower dose normal release for breakthrough pain, when their slow release are not adequately controlling their pain. I hope this helps you understand a little better that the odds of these being messed up would be pretty much nil, but i do understand you are trying to be helpful & are coming from a good place with your advice/queries.

Hi guys. Well I hope to feel better soon. I went to my chemist on Monday to pre order the Sandoz brand oxy's only to find a sub pharmasist behind the counter. He is an older man and in my opinion, not the best pharmasist I've ever come across. Anyway, I asked him if he could pre order the Sandoz brand tablets for me and he flat out said 'no' not without the script. Okay then.
On Thurs I went to my doc appointment without to much of a problem he said no worries and he didn't tick the box (no substitute) on the script. He hadn't heard about the Sandoz brand and knew I was in more pain and anxious even though he had increased my dose. He did say to me that he thinks that the cause of my increased anxiety was due to the fact that I have an addiction and this worries him. I said that is part true but I think the anxiety is increasing because these new formulated oxy's don't work well. I think it's obvious I have an addiction they are addictive.
Anyhow I couldn't get the Sandoz ones because the chemist didn't order them and he wouldn't even with the script, he is waiting for my normal pharmacist to come back this Monday and get him to order them. He believes that the new ones are great, and he said ' I will have to wait. So I've ended up with a box of the Munda ( whatever the name ) ones and hopefully when I go back this week coming I will be able to pick up the rest in the Sandoz brand.
I thought about changing pharmacy but the doctor and the pharmacy are in one building (with no other shops or businesses) so I decided to wait until the original pharmasist returns because i know him well and he is without judgement. If on the other hand he doesn't get them I will be changing.
I'm determined to feel better and not let the ones that miss use these tablets wreck my chance of being pain free.

So thanks again guys for your advice, I will let you know. Without the input and encouragement that everyone gave me on here I wouldn't of even known they existed. I've got my fingers crossed.
I hope you all are as pain free as desired, I will never in the future take a pain free day for granted.

Hi sandy The new oxycodone Sandoz modified release are brilliant they are based on the original formula meaning that they are not the abuse-proof formula like the OxyContin reformulated tablets' they suck and cause so many horrible side effects it's note funny not to mention that it made my panic disorder 100x worse and many many more side effects on top of that. I get 56x OxyCodone Sandoz 80mg x56 each month with oxynorm 20mg instant release 80 per month aswell. I find it really odd that they wouldn't order them in for you with or with out the script my chemist orders quite a few boxes in for me at a time a head of time always has in only 28yrs old to and have no problem getting them. What state are you from sandy ?
