I am on a suboxone treatment program and currently interviewing for several new jobs. I will have to take a pre-employment drug test and I am wondering if I will fail for an opiate due to the suboxone. I do not want to tell my future employer that I am in treatment for a past drug dependency and I am worried that the suboxone will make that impossible.

Alright, let me first say to the people who post comments on here saying that "suboxone or buprenorphine will test positive on a drug test as an opiate," Go F*** YOURSELF!!!!! After reading posts from several different chat rooms for 3 days waiting on my test results I worried myself sick!! Worst 3 days of my life cause of a--hole people who don't know a god damn thing. I took a drug test from Quest Diagnostic 45105N SAP 5-50+MDMA/6a/T and I DIDN'T have a problem passing the test! Hear that everyone???? I PASSED!!! Subs don't show as an opiate. I am prescribed suboxone and take it everyday twice a day. I also took a 12 panel First Check drug test and was negative for EVERYTHING!! So please people don't worry yourself sick like I did thinking that suboxone or buprenorphine will test positive for an opiate!!!

Yes it does show up as an opiate. I took a 7 panel drug screen that I purchased at walgreens to test for xanax and am on suboxone and it did show up as an opiate. I think the confusion lies in the fact that when people state u have to specifically test for suboxone for it to show up what that means is that it won't show up as suboxone but will show up as a general opiate unless specifically testing for suboxone.

I wouldn't recommend using subs to get off percocet. The sub addiction is much worse than an addiction to percs. I used suboxone to replace a ten year heroin and morphine addiction and have done just about every pill and opiate under the sun, been on subs for a year and I think you're much better off just trying to wean yourself off the percs. I think the percs are the lesser of the two evils but do what you think works for you, I am by no means a doctor or expert, just going off of my experience

I have a script to percocet and i want to getoff them so i have a friend who takes subs and he gave me half a strip to try..i took a quarter strip one time.Will it show up on a 12 panel employee screen? Prime example of y not to take anyones script..learned my lesson..so I will be ok on the screen?

SUBOXONE DOES NOT COME UP AS OPIATE DOES NOT SHOW UNLESS THEY TEXTFOR IT AND THEY DONT. I HAVE TEST DONE ONCE A MONTH FOR YEAR NOW AND NO OPIATES SHOW AND I TAKE SUBOXONE

Suboxone is a synthetic opiate and will not show up on a 4 panel test thst includes opiates thc coke and xanys. I'm speaking from my personal experience on suboxone 2 years while taking that test randomly 4x each month and 100s of threads saying what I'm saying

I dont know why people go on here and answer questions they pretend to know the answers to. I take suboxone everyday and take a drug test every week and never has it showed up for opiates. It needs to be tested for specifically. Ive had a suboxone test before while i was in rehab and its on a whole seperate stick of its own. I can tell you from experience it DOES NOT show up as opiates and people saying that it does are just talking from false information they have heard and have no real life experience. By the way my po uses a 10 panel test and it has never showed up for any emoyment drug test ive taken.

I just took an 11 panel drug test for employment and it did not show up. It was a 9 panel DOT test with an OPI 1300 test with expandable opiates. I take bout 2mg a day and nothing showed up. Their is a specific separate test for subs

Your dumb suboxone isnt an opiate neither is methadone they are synthetic opiates are derived from the poppy plant mdon and sobox are man made

Ya I know....that's become very apparent. It obviously depends on the company and the type of job. Maybe I can find out what lab the company uses and give them a call for what specific drugs they test for.....as long as they don't test directly for BUPE, I'll know I'm in the clear.

If you read a few posts here you will quickly realize that asking here won't help you. Some say yes, some say no. My test didn't show positive but others say theirs did.

No......buprenorphine is an opioid....it is a partial-opioid agonist that has a high binding affinity with a long half life(32 to 70 hours or so) that mildly stimulates the mu receptor. Let's just clear this up on this forum for everyone. Suboxone(buprenorphine/naloxone) will not test positive for any type of opiate(full opiate agonist: hydrocodone, oxycodone, heroin, morphine) But it is of the more general synthetic opioid class, that requires a specific test. Most employers, and even probation/parole will not test for it. However, I have heard it is becoming more commonly tested for as more awareness is being raised of its potential abuse(up for debate of course), and I have heard that probation/parole will only test for it if there is suspicion of use or you outright told them you have used it. I could be wrong on that, but that's what I've heard, and experienced in the 4 years I was on paper( thank God I'm off!)

So I'm applying for oil field jobs to become an MWD. I am down to 2 to 3 mg of sub per day now, and still tapering. I know how serious the oil field jobs are about drug use, and it makes sense because you could risk peoples lives if you are high on the job. But as many know with subs, it normalizes a person that has been on them for a period of time and reduces cravings( I know that's a a subject for debate, but I don't feel high off subs, just normalized) after getting off their DOC. My question is: how extensive do most of these oil companies test, is it 12,14, 20 panel? I know that 14 and above will test for subs and I have heard that sub testing is becoming more common, however there are still many companies who do not test for it because it requires a specific test and it's expensive. Also just an FYI, I took a 12 panel home drug test one time and came up false/positive for oxycodone while on high dose of sub and I had not used oxy in over 2 years. I took the same 12 panel for a job and passed, because I'm pretty sure once the sample is sent to the lab they can determine that you don't have oxy in your system. But just as a warning subs can cause false/positive for oxy, so don't be alarmed. But if anyone has any input about the oil an gas drug screening it would be much appreciated.

Also I did find out for a fact that the company I am applying with does a urine test, while a lot of the oil and gas companies do hair follicle test these days. Thanks

Bulls*** Subs do not show up as opiates. If u do not know something don't try and act like u do and give people misleading info. I'm on state parole and take a test every week and pass with flying colors and I abuse Subs

nothinbutthetruth - s*** i just read your whole post and i'm so sorry! this is why our legal system is so totally f***ed! you're tryin to do the right thing & stay off drugs while you're in immense pain and instead of praising you for doing the right thing you're forced to completely detox off of meds that usually take like years to get off of in 3 1/2 days! thats insane! i just seriously can't get it through my mind that these can possible see it as a BAD thing that you're on suboxone! its not like you can get high off this s*** or something. now methadone ya know you can get high off of so i could see some hesitation there, but even then, still, its WAYYY better than being on actual opiates. so sad. seriously GOOD LUCK with everything, cause that sounds like a living hell. but hopefully it can only get better from there!

Be assured suboxone does not show up as an opiate or any other drug that will get you in trouble after a drug test.
My cpn worker told me this as I was worried about getting drug tested as part of an oil related job and he should know as he actually performs the drug testing for an oil company.so your in the clear unless they perform a specific test that includes testing for bup but it is a test rarely if atoll undertaken.

I think it honestly depends on the test. I just took a 12 panel at home test and am on 8 mg suboxone per day and it did show up as OXYCODONE. I haven't taken one of those in over 5yrs so it has to be the sub.

I have been taking a very low dose of suboxone and took gave me a drug test and it said I had failed for opiates. How is this possible? I also had no clue they even were drug testing me. I did a urin sample because I thought i hadva uti infection. Can they do that without telling me? I need someone to help me understand what to do. Then I get a crazy huge bill for the test and I'm just so confused. Please help.

I just took a drug test for a job it was a 10 panel drug test at a lab and I passed it and I take 3 of the 8mg a day
