Where To Purchase Paregoric (Page 6) (Top voted first)

Updated

I've used Paregoric for 15 years and can't find it. Is there anywhere in the U.S. or other countries where this can be purchased?

What gets me, someone in the FDA must have Colitis or family members that have it. I am so sick of not having this medication to help with my quality of life. Just a little bit goes along way. Haven't they ever heard 'If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it? In the mean time I am taking a shot of hard liquor when I feel a flare-up coming on. If I wait, then it doesn't help. I am NOT advocating Alcohol use. I am just saying sometimes with me. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. (BTW, It doesn't relieve the pain all the way. Just enough I can move around the house a bit.

dicyclomine is an antispasmatic for bowels. I use it for spastic colon. It takes about 20 minutes to quiet the spasms but is very effective.

FYI just found out that you can take your prescription to a Compounding Pharmacy and they can make paragoric for you , not sure about whether it is exact same as before , however it is more expensive [2 oz. $25.00] and most do not file your insurance for you, therefore not sure covered by ins.

On this same site, look up "Opium Tincture". It is not exactly the same as Paregoric, but it is very similar and is still produced in the U.S. The history is very interesting, and explains how the two became different to the FDA. So, if your doctor will write a prescription of "Opium Tincture" for you, you can still get the kind of help you got from Paregoric. The page states that Paregoric was much weaker, therefore, you mostly use drops of the Tincture of Opium. It is actually a fascinating page to read of the history of the manufacture of both these, very much needed, medications.

JJ:
Any kind of source would be out of country, and since the FDA pronounced 'paragoric' ILLEGAL [ Please read Laura's long, but immensely helpful letter from the FDA to her re: (among other things) paragoric.] Therefore, your "source" would not be "LEGITIMATE". So, all other readers of this site and thread, beware!!

The DEA watches internet orders of drugs that are made out of country. They allow some, rather innocuous things, like antibiotics, etc. They do not allow narcotics. They also stop packages containing illegal drugs from coming into the U.S. Believe me. If someone is actually making paragoric here, you might just as well call it "moonshine". Laura's letter is really quite clear, and I have had experience with the internet thing from around 2004, when there were a lot of "out of country" medications sites, and lots of us used them.

It is not worth it. Especially, since any "legitimate" source would require a prescription. As I said in my earlier post, if you can convince your physician that you really need this (and I believe that there are many people that do), then get the "Tincture of Opium". I have had it in the past, and I did not think it was as bad as someone else on the thread had thought. You use far less of it than the paragoric. However, it was the original formula, and somehow was "grandfathered" into being able to stick around, not being under the FDA's surpervision. Honest and truly, read the history of this on this site. It is very interesting. Tincture of Opium may get put under the FDA, so try to get it while you still can. From your doctor, and pharmacy.

OK THEN!

Well, I just took my tablespoon of my liquid gold and frankly, the FDA can kiss my ass!

Just trying to help out the people here who need it and share resources, do what you feel.

Is there a way to send private messages on here?

This note appears in small print at the bottom of where you can write a message, so to JJ: I would say that they are very clear in the answer to private messages being "NO".

Cure for Whooping Cough and Whooping Cough is back. FDA that was not cool. A cure to stop a pandamic by use of paregoric (very small use). Using a simple recipe to cure Whooping Cough. Been used by our ancestors for centuries. They really want us to depend on government. We need to get smarter.
