Can certain over the counter medications or prescription medications cause a false positive for Methamphetamine in a blood test?

Sorry to hear this Casey.. I had the false positive from Ranititine.. If you are absolutely sure you haven't done any kind of drugs (meth,coke) then go into dr and ask for Hair tests... they can pin point the difference between the prescription and street stuff.. But only if your sure.. cause the hair test can clear you.. :) good luck

dr john...i cleared that up..my problem is the methamphetamine that showed a positive.. i never laid eyes on before..the nurse refused to send off to lab to be confirmed. then cps removed my baby. in oct 2013...i lost her completly over that one test that was a urine test.i had a uti, and dehydrated and on claritin d, adderal, rantidine.zofran,and other meds...antibiotics for uti....i went to er same day as that test , only tested positive for my scripts that dr gave me , and it was also sent off to lab.i also done a hair test that came back neg. court n cps refused to even look at it..i lost my 3 1/2 yr. old baby girl .she is my life my heart my soul ,my reason for being.because of that one test i cant even see her.......i appealed the case..but i need help to get something in writing to help me prove i did not do meth... not my life style what so ever..i dont have an atty.i appealed pro se.....we need help please....i have a good case to sue over this ,i need an atty willing to stand up and fight. i wouldnt care to give atty all money he can get to win law suit...i want my baby bacl....someone please help us..

hey Casey sorry to hear about your situation the first thing I would do if I were you is make complete list of everything you have taken prescription an over the counter meds if it makes it easier you can write all over the counter meds on one sheet of paper an write all prescription meds you have taken or currently taken on a separate sheet of paper do a complete research on every single med you have taken then you should be able to identify the med that produced the false positive for meth when you do have the page with all the info explaining that it causes false positives for meth and show it to your would be employer hopefully he or she will give you the benefit of the doubt an let you take another test to prove your innocence an also be prepared first before you approach them make sure you know for a fact the drug causing the false positive is no longer in your system an if they agree to another test you will be ready now I can't guarantee that even though you prove your innocence that you will get the job that's really up to them but look at it on the bright side you haven't had your kids taken away an your freedom hangs in the balance like so many others have experienced so good luck hope it all works out for the best

I've been trying to get on with gas company regency for over a year and I just got a call I failed my .ua. with amphetamine methamphetamines the cut off .250 .ng and mine came back .291. I was very I'll prior to the test was taking lots of medications mostly for mycus and vomiting and stuff to help me sleep. I am given the option of paying 200 and having same Pete sent to another labbutility can't afford It. I begged them to retest there they won't. He asked me about what mess I had been taking I was so taken back I had failed I didn't know what to say. And what qualifies as over the counter? Im pissed I'm clean I should get this job it' means everything to me . What should u do?

go on the internet an find a legitimate source about OTC's Wikipedia is usually a good source an print the page out don't print out the opinions of other people that will not. help you find a page that shows the FACTS in black an white an it's better to find. a page on the specific OTC that gave you or ur husband the false positive you or your husband take that page to both doctors that ignored OTC's can cause a false positive if they still won't acknowledge the information you found tell them you will get a lawyer prove your innocence in court an have both of them fired immediately now that's if you're 100% innocent an the OTC is to blame for your situation going through a lawyer is inconvenient I know but letting them have there way will put you even more in jeopardy

My husband told not only the doctor performing the test but the actual lab doctor of all medications prescribed and OTC and the doctors wouldn't even listen to the OTC meds....so he was fired... What if anything can I do about this

NO. Methamphetamine is Methamphetamine. It may be possible to get a positive amphetamine on a test if using Benzedrex Inhalers or similar, do to the form of amphetamine that is in them.

My attorney says they did a GL blood test he says it is the most expensive test and is the only test that will separate meth from amphetamine salts. I received the citation in August of 2013 so I cannot have the hair tested at this point. I go to trial in July, I did not take the plea as they were only willing to take a DUI drugs which is a mandatory 1 year license suspension in AZ. They pulled me over for driving with out lights but I had only been in the car about 30 seconds and I was in a brightly lit area, friend had driven the car last and had turned the auto lights off. I really don't have a defense, but I feel I had no choice but to fight.

It is imperative that you have your test CONFIRMED by a reputable lab using LC/MS/MS or GC/MS, Anything else is not confirmatory, and will not stand in a court of law.

To ALL: Methamphetamine and/or Amphetamine in any test MUST BE CONFIRMED by either GC/MS or LC/MS/MS, it cannot just be and EIA or ELISA test! Please make them prove your guilt or innocence. I do this daily for Las Vegas.

I agree totally! The lab must have messed up the specimen. If you are indeed not on meth, then it should have confirmed negative. Phentermine shares one ion with Amphetamine, but this should easily have been ruled out by LC/'MS/MS/MS.

Get off ranititine it caused my false positive. I cannot gwt out of bed even with painkillers some days.... GOOGLE AND FIND AS MUCH PEOPLE YOU CAN FIND! My pharmacist actually helped cleared my name... I now Google each and every new pill he tries to give me asking with this cause false positive in urine tox

@ please help I'm sorry too hear of your situation sounds like you have been dealt a devastating blow for your hair test to come back with that high of levels of meth there is a possibilities that you are clean an the test says you're dirty an that is pretty much "human error" unfortunately somebody might of mishandled your test results at the lab an got you mixed up with somebody else it's a rare thing to have happen but it does happen my blood test an hair test came back 100% accurate the urine test said I was dirty an the hair cleared me immediately I'm not even on probation anymore all I can go by is my own experience the hair test an blood test I know for a FACT was accurate an when I sent my hair off that thought was at the back of my mind "boy I sure hope they don't get me mixed up with somebody else I'll be doomed for sure an there will be no explaining it" but luckily for me everything ran smooth an make sure they ran a confirmation test on your hair that's how they distinguish one drug from another or else the hair might come up false positive like the urine I'm no doctor or big expert but what I would try to do if I was you is see if any of your friends knows a toxicologist an if they do see if they can put you in touch with him/her an maybe he or she can break it down to you about why your test said what it said an see if there's another route you can take to prove your innocence if not you probably might have to get off ur meds an take another hair test best of luck too ya hope things turn out fine

I took hair follicle test came up maxed out levels for meth and super high levels for amphetamines
I do not do either the levels were so high I should be walking dead man. My lawyer told me I was a drug addict and that I was in denial. The judge took my child from and she has never spent one day away from for her whole 8 years.she is very confused and crying every single night because she doesn't know or understand what is going on because I don't do drugs and he's never seen anything like that or anyone or anybody doing drugs ever in her life so she's very confused. its very very sad .my prescriptions are Sulfazine 3000mg a day for bowel disease. this prescription is a mirror image of Meth. Bupropion 300 mg a day mirror image of amphetamine and Prozac 80mg a day false positive for amphetamine. all prescriptions have been taking for at least 4 years and it is all saturated through my hair. it is very embarrassing for that I take excellent care of my child and there is no drugs in my background ordeal timer anything like that and for the parents that know me they always compliment me on what a good mom I am. Thank God for internet for each of these prescription medications there's hundreds of articles about them causing false positive but the problem I have is proving that these meds are the cause.I know everyone thinks that they can test specifically for what medication but that's not true. so I don't know what to do in court is there a special person that I can hire a scientist or something that knows something about this I just don't know how to prove it in court they can't test specifically for this medication I have taking a pee test for the past 10 days and it comes up positive for methamphetamine I went to my doctors and they told me I was doing drugs. I'm not stupid I'm 45 years old even if I was doing drugs I would stop it only stays in system for 36 days before have to take a pee test okay I cannot get it to come clean because of my medicine I take daily. even medical doctors will look at me and tell me to go to rehab it is so ridiculous I don't know what to do and I'm leaving my daughter over something that I've never done.I'm trying to get help I don't care how much money it cause I just want to find an expert I don't know who to hire or what to do.

Dr . please help me . I lost my baby , for testing positive for meth and methadone. i have never laid eyes on it. now i lost my pain dr as well.im in appeal court and the dr, said if i can prove its not meth and a reson why he would take me back...i was on adderall salts, rantidine, claratin d,percocet,xanax prn,nurontin,inhaler,zofran,prednisone ,antibiotic for kidney /bladder infection...they did not send my urine test out to lab ,they refused...they took my baby,i went to hospital had test done neg for methadone, said they couldnt do just a meth test, it was sent out to lab both same result....i had a hair test done ..it came back neg....but i did not et my baby back ..that was oct 013. lost custody april 14..i was fighting all way thru for the court to take my certified lab results...they would not....i dont have much money i am disabled and used my money fihting this. i am in appeals pro se.....i cannot afford an expert witness nor do i know how to et one ..i been begging the lab , everyone the hospital,my dr....i cannot get help anywhere..i just really need an expert to give me documentation , like i need to provide it to new court , and my dr, please help......i am honest person raisin my baby girl on my own in church...i have never laid eyes on meth amphetamine nor methadone.......my baby is with strangers begging to come home..she thinks i just wont let her...i am not getting to see her...regular....she is having separation anxiety.... can you please help us she is 3 1/2 years old and now back in diapers...I pray someone will answer my prayer and help me ,guide me to get the information that will be accepted to get my baby back home in my arms so we can heal from all this mess...please held DR. please ....anyone!!

Methadone is not an opiate. It will not show up as a positive on an opiate screen. It has to be tested by itself.

I had a hair analysis and I'm pretty sure it had all the things you listed I'd have to actually look at the test again to tell you exactly what it said but it had all that confirmation stuff at the end an I didn't think it was too expensive I paid like 75$ for the panel 5 drug test they had one for 100$ but I didn't need that one all I know is the test I did was 100% accurate everything came back exactly like it was supposed too
