Weight Gain On Pristiq? (Page 27) (Top voted first)

I have been on Pristiq now since November of 2008...not quite 5 months...and I have put on 15 lbs since starting it. DESPITE working out with a trainer at the gym twice a week weight training, 3 days a week of cardio AND counting calories. My doc assured me that I would also have a decreased appetite on Pristiq, which I have yet to find true...so he has now increased my dosage to 400 mg. Does anyone have anything to add to this?? I'm just frustrated!

I've been on just about every antidepressant on the market during the past 20 years and Pristiq is by far the WORST one. By some kind of miracle I've never gained weight on any of them...until Pristiq. It has to have some effect on your metabolism because nothing about my eating or exercise habits has changed (I keep a food and an exercise diary so I'd know. And Pristiq didn't make me hungrier.) I'm a personal trainer and a health editor so I know how to eat and work out to keep my weight down and NOTHING has helped. I've gained 10 pounds—not a ton of weight but I'm short and it really shows. And it's all in my midsection. I battled body image issues years ago and now they're back with a vengeance. Oh, and my LDL cholesterol level shot up. I'm getting off it and going back on Cymbalta.

I was on pristiq for 2 yrs. put on weight and made me agitated and loss of sleep. Now day 9 without it. I have had all the withdrawals. Starting to feel better today. Will not go on this again withdrawls shocking. Hopefully some weight will drop now. I did this under Dr supervision do not go cold turkey.

I've been on Pristiq for about 2 months and have gained 15 pounds. I don't have an appetite so I don't understand. I feel horrible, bloated, every joint aches... And I still cry often...

I have been on pristiq for quite sometime now too and I have had weight gain as well. In about 1 year I have gained about 20 pounds. I have not noticed any decreased appetite either. My PCP told me that she believes the weight gain is due to the pristiq and she is taking me off it because there is no other reason for weight gain. I exercise, eat healthy, and have a very active lifestyle. Hope that gives you some more input.

Very normal. Get off of it. Taper off though. I quit cold turkey and I would not recommend that. I was on it for three months and gained 50 pounds. Eating was uncontrollable. It was insane.

I've just weaned off pristiq and am wondering if anyone has had luck with the weight loss after coming off? I put on 20 or so lbs in the 6 months I was on it. I have an excellent dr who is extremely ethical and cautious when prescribing drugs. One of his colleagues prescribed this to me when he was on vacation. He was fuming when he found out. He's not a supporter of this drug at all. He and I are working on alternatives and have ran diagnostics to see if something else could be causing the weight gain. I'm not holding my breath.

I've read on another thread that a few months after coming off the weight started to drop but others on this thread haven't had that experience. If be interested to know if there is light at the end of the tunnel. I hope this drug hasn't damaged my weight forever.

change to wellbutrin you WILL loose weight it makes you loose weight in almost every case Ive heard. But it can make you a bit anxious so Id take a benadryl or atarax(prescription only) with it or even valium as I do its the lightest benzo has the longest half life therefore is easy to wean off of.

400 mg of pristiq is unheard of..... Are you seeing a psyopharmacologist or is this tour primary care Dr prescribing this dose??

I was on 150mg of pristiq I did not eat just vommiting a lot and feeling sick all the time .i got down to 69kg about 5 weeks ago I decided to quit cold turkey not under doctors order but I fell lot better. Anything I eat now It won't make me full I eat 5-6 times a day every 2-hrs my weight is now 83.5kg errrr

I have been on anti depressants for years from Nardil , to Effexor , now on pristiq
For 4 years it works and I did not gain any weight.whatever gets you through this life.
Suffered from anxiety disorder ,panic attacks pristiq works for me

I tried everything to lose weight as well. The military diet has worked for me. I am finally getting results after 10 years. I love Pristiq for my depression. It saved my life. You may find the military diet online. Just google it. Hope this helps.

I'm in the very same boat as you. I was only on it for 4month or so... I ballooned up almost 20 pounds when I stopped taking it.

I haven't changed anything in my workout routine or Diet and I'm back up to my post pregnancy weight. I really hope that this wieght is easy to shed and doesn't keep stacking on

I've been on pristiq for about 3 years. Some background information I have hypothyroidism as well as chronic fatigue syndrome. I have gained about 30 lbs ... I'm only 5'1, so this is a lot! I eat as I always used to had before, never had any weight problems. I have already tried antidepressants from every group even MAOIs as well as ECT with no luck, pristiq seems a bit better than the others but not much difference... Any ideas?

I HAVE NO APPETITE AT ALL I FEEL SICK IF I EAT FOOD. IVE LOST ABOUT 15 POUNDS SINCE I BEEN TAKING IT. I FEEL LIKE IM IN A FOG AND SLEEPY.

I had the same issue... Figured out it was because I was taking a generic brand instead of the name brand... Check with your doctor...but this can be the issue
