Been on Sandoz mfr. lorazepam for 10 years; no problems; no need to increase dose. Sandoz stopped mfr. Now, can only get these generic's & Actavis. Having lots of troubles getting results; either nothing or zonked. Anyone else w/any experience which mfr. is closer to Sandoz (since FDA approves up to 2% differences in generics). Thank you.
Have you tried switching to generics? If so, avoid watson 241/1. It is so weak, it's like taking sugar pills.
jkatt11,
I know exactly what your going thru. I am trying to last as long as I can by taking Ativan brand only. It is eating up all I have saved for in my life. I asked myself what the next step will be when I can not afford them anymore & I have to move to generic. I would consult a reputable physchiatrist & ask if there is another pill type that you could take with generic. Also, there are some rehab sights online you could call. Always try to stay positive, even though I understand what panic attacks, anxiety loss of sleep can do. We are just 2 chat voices connecting but there are many more people dealing with this problem. Feel free to contact me at anytime to help you through & talk it out. Keep me posted, STURG
I called the Ranbaxy company, and they said they are having trouble getting their ingredients. She told me it will be two or three years before Ranbaxy is making Ativan again. I am in big trouble, as it is the only thing keeping me afloat. I am so sensitive to everything. I called everywhere. The only brands around here seem to be Mylan or Watson.
I found Excillium to be exactly the same as Ranbaxy. I guess we all have different chemistry and so one brand does not work for everyone. However, I feel so much better this past week being on Excillium. It was a true gift because after trying several others, I thought I was going to have anxiety for the rest of my life. If you can't find it maybe the pharmacy can mail it? I really don't know. It's worth a try for the Ranbaxy users that are currently in trouble.
My doctor wanted me to start brand name Ativan but OMG! My copay was over three hundred dollars :( so I had no other choice but get the generic brand Qualities 2mg. I am glad I cut it in half because it knocked me out. I can't belive my copay for brand name when my generic was only 69 cents. Really sucks big time. Your so lucky your copay is only 40 Dollars.
No. Same results- panic attacks, depression, insomnia. Sorry, STURG
when you were on watson did it help?
I also have returned to using Ativan brand since I couldn't get similar results from ANY generic except Ranbaxy. Thankfully my RX plan has changed at work so instead of paying $1,100.00 (a sin!) with 50% reimbursement I now have a $40.00 copay. Ativan brand, for me at least, has always been the best and an effective treatment for my anxiety and occasional panic attacks. If any of you have the choice, forget about all the problems we all have discussed with the generics and use the brand. For me, I now have a normal life again without the side effects I have spoken about.Too bad Valeant has to be so greedy in their pricing!!!!!!! There ought to be a law against drug company price gouging especially since many drugs were developed using taxpayer money.
Yes. I battled Walgreens with this same issue. I had to go to the doctor and have them write brand medically necessary to get the brand name Ativan. It still does not have the same results as the Sandoz did and I am full of anxiety. I am not happy!
I understand!that is the same with me, I was on ativan 2mg from ranbaxy from 2004 till well last 3-4 months. NO other generics work for me,I am now back to square 1 with my panic attacks. So far, all the other generics seem to trigger my anxiety, nightmares, panic attacks, and I am losing a lot of weight. I am really suffering. My doctor gave me a high dose reg valium and it made me worse. I have severe ptsd and seizures and I really cant afford the name brand-ins only pays so many. I also- only felt relief from my ranbaxy ativan. since 2004 with counseling until this year I finally had my terrible issues under control. I do not get any relief from the generics, and I've tried them all now.Cvs new generic is horrid! The ranbaxy actually even settled my stomach down, while the mylan made me nauseated. If you find a ranbaxy ativan -let me know! I wish you the best and all of us on here deserve relief!!!! :)
Hi Caz7, That is called the Exception policy. Any time you have to take a brand only drug your doctor has to fax to pharmacy the reason why you can not take generic, Sometimes it is a pain to get the doctor to send it in so keep rechecking with CVS to see if they have received it. They will then make the decision. We live in a world controlled by generic companies even though, as you know, we can be drastically affected by them in a negative way with both our health & budget. Keep me posted, STURG
Hi STURG, and thank you for replying. It was such a stressful day. I went to my doctor to tell him Sandoz was not working and told him about the side effects, he wrote me Rx for Ativan and let me tell you. Only one pharmacy here in Hanford,Ca carries it which is CVS, so I call my ins and I guess we can still use Cvs so I go down there and hand then my Rx which states Avtivan 2mg Do Not Substitute and they tried giving me generic Activis. So, I told her my doctor checked the dont substitute and OMG! The want some paper stating why the doctor wants me to take name brand Ativan. No ones carrying Mylan or Watson but they do carry Qualitis. I don't know why they are giving me such a hard time. Well sorry I made this so long lol...it's just so irritating and some of these people at the pharmacy can be so rude especially when you know or ask about the MFR. Well thanks for hearing me out. My husband doesn't understand what I am going through, so it's nice to be able to post questions and get response from Someone who knows what it is like.
Last year I was getting Lorazepam at CVS but they changed manufacturers. I am sorry you are going thru these negative side effects. The same thing has happened to me. The only thing that works for me is brand only Ativan which is very expensive. Keep me posted on how you are Caz7. I will pass any further info I get to you. Best of luck, STURG
I can't stand target service. I was going to CVS and our Insurance for some reason changed where we could get our RX filled and I never paid no mind to the MFR and once I got my RX 2mg of Lorazapam it wasn't working the same as the one made by Mylan. It's been horriable. Triggering my anxiety and panic attacks. Not sure if Watson is better than Mylan.
I have tried Lorazepam made by Execellium in June of 2014. I got 1mg pills so I took 2 pills each night to reach 2mg as required. I lasted 3 days. I was waking up with high anxiety, panic attacks & depression. It was very similar to what happened with the other Lorazepam generics I have tried from other manufacturers. Although Execellium is the only company that makes the pill in the US the 20% differential from the brand only is still there. Have you taken Brand Only Ativan & successfully switched to Execelllium Lorazepam?,
Excellium Manufacturing Produces Lorazapam in all Strenghts .5--1-2 etc//The best product out for stability and consistency.
Went on RX website (can't remember which one) but it gave ingredients and Ativan also has lactose mono-hydrate. But I don't seem to be having any stomach aches with this name brand Ativan. My appointment with my new doctor is on Tuesday. So I will soon find out if I can get this medication at a reasonable cost. I did research what other meds are similar. I didn't save the information but just do a search online. It will give you other meds that are for panic and anxiety. There are only a few that fall under this symptom. But again why should we have to change when one is working ?
Sydney, Thanks for response. I to have a milk allergy. I also have an allergy to MSG & artificial sweeteners which will cause seizure like symptoms at night & serious stomach pain until I process tt out of my body. I think our cases are very similar. I am going through the same neurologist search looking for a doctor who understands & cares about my problem. I have Express Scripts & I pay approx $600 for a 90 day supply of brand only Ativan. Keep in touch. {edited for privacy}
I don't know another drug that is similiar, but have you asked your doctor to authorize the name brand due to dangerous side effects? I have tried different manufacturers of Ativan and I too had side effects similiar to yours: panic attacks (duh..its suppose to stop the panic attacks), depression, and stomach aches (I am allergic to milk and the generics use dairy as a filler) Ativan works for me. On blue cross I was paying 80 dollars for 90 day supply of name brand. My insurance just changed and they want to charge me 700 dollars for 90 day supply of name brand. So besides needing to change doctors I now have to try and get this authorized at a decent price. So keep fighting insurance and ask the doctor to help to lower the price. Call the manufacturer and see if they can help out . I am still in the process of going to a new doctor and they are aware of my plight. So I will let you know when I get this settled one way or another. Maybe Obama would like to pay for our meds?
I have been on 2 mg of Ativan 20+ years & since the beginning of 2014 I am experiencing exactly the same symptoms that you state from lorazepam. I have tried 3 manufacturers Mylan, Ranboxy & Ativis with the same result. Two of these companies make their pills in India & the third in New Jersey. The 20% differential which these generics offer delivers panic attacks! nocturnal seizures & high anxiety to me that is almost unbearable. I am 66 years old & I am using up my life savings on brand only ativan at $3000 a year. Keep searching for an answer. Does anyone know of a different med that is similar to ativan?
