Watson Is Now Actavis Generic Percocet 5/325 What Is Up With This (Page 33)

I had been taking 5/325 generic Watson percocet for 4 years. Suddenly I get notified by Walgreens which I have insurance that there is no more Watson brand and I was given generic percocet 5/325 by Actavis. It is not the same at all. It has no pain relief for me. I used to break the watsons in half sometimes and never had a funny taste. I just broke one of the actavis white tablets in half and it immediately tasted like salt or alka seltzer? Has anyone had any issues with this drug too. Also, along with it not working right it has made my GI tract and stomach so ill feeling and cramping. This is not right how can they take away a medicine that someone has been on for 4 years without any problems and tell them to suddenly switch. Would a peson who has been on a certain heart medication for years be told to suddenly switch that he can't get that medicine anymore? I don't think so. I don't know what I am going to do but when it comes time to have my rx re-filled it will not be with Actavis and I will have to pharmacy shop I guess to see if I can find Watson. I am very depressed now and so unhappy I can't believe it.

I will check back tomorrow, to see how everyone is doing. I'm having a lot of stomach trouble today. I have a tendency to get intestinal blockages, and this medicine is making that worse. I didn't mention this symptom before, because I didn't want to get too graphic. Not having a good day! I hope everyone gets a chance to call the company. I think It might do us all some good.

Hi Lola,

No, I wish I was one of the more lucky ones. It's just been almost a month, and I've been taking regular tylenol with the Actavis. No, it still doesn't help much, but I think the steroids might have helped some. Now that my 6 days of taking that is over, the pain is worse. I start Gabapentin tomorrow for nerve pain, but I was told that I can still take the percocet. I was also told it could take a month to experience any pain relief. I am very concerned about running out of my pain medication. In the days remaining, I expect to be in a lot of pain, because I will have to make this junk last.

Hi cski, I did some research, and Watson is now Actavis. I don't know why the formula changed with the name. As you can see, we are all suffering from outcome. Thank you for the information about the Hydrocodone, I didn't know about that. As I said, from the comments made here, they will be losing a lot of money!

Martin, I know it's hard to say anything, because of fear of losing your pain medication. Maybe you could speak with the advice nurse, and tell her what's going on. Your blood pressure being high as you know, shouldn't be taken lightly. When my doctor threatened to put me on Suboxone, I called the clinic and asked to speak with someone. I was told, that I always have a choice and that they can't just stop my pain medication. If you tell the advice nurse, your blood pressure changed after starting the Actavis brand, you might be able to get something else. Just a few suggestions, I hope I'm not overstepping. Let us know how it goes.

Switching from hydrocodone to oxycodone changes the painkilling ingredient. Oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone, and can really slow down your digestive tract. Also, the effects are more intense. My mother cannot stand oxycodone, but is just fine with hydrocodone for her hip issues. From what you said, they changed the drug, not just the generic manufacturer. Hope this helps.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan, thanks for asking however, no I am getting worse I think because of the pain has now really started to flare up and as others have posted the depression is taking over every minute of the day. If I knew that one day this was what I would have to deal with on a daily basis I tihnk I would have not gone the narcotic pain pill route. But you know how it is when you have tried everything which is what I did five years before going on perocet, you find something that takes away the pain and you suddenly have your life back - well need I say more. I am concerned when I get my rx refilled the next time what I should try. Now after this actavis crap i almost feel paranoid about the other one I will be getting. Are you still taking the Actavis? If you are you are one of the lucky ones that it doesn't cause so many of the side effects for you. Hope you are having a good day.

Hi Martin, how are you doing? I read your recent post and I am so sorry you are having a very tough time. I also am and have been dealing with alot of depression. I know you said you were going to try oxycodone when you get your rx re-filled but I am confused weren't you on oxycodone the Watson brand? So do you mean you will get the brand name next time?

Hi all,
Yes I was always afraid to say the pain meds werent working enough becasue they would try and switch you to something else. So I just go in and say "everything's great" and hope they move me on quickly. For the last year that has worked out well. Now this Actavis crap. It doesnt work and I can't "live" with it. It is getting worse. Now I'm having withdrawal issues. Oh and the Watson kept my BP in check. These don't. BP last nite was 170/110. I had a brain hemorraghe and high BP can cause another one. I have had 3 minor strokes in the last year. They are called TIA's. Caused by high BP. SO now I'm scared to have another one. Wife is bipolar and sick of me complaining about pain. She yelled at me last night "When are you gonna get better". I don't know. But this is added stress I dont need. Felt so sick last nite. Pain and nausea make me want to cry. If I dont feel better will try and get in earlier than 3-18. Hope evceryone is doing ok.

I agree Martin. They make us sign pain contracts, and then still threaten us when we are in pain. It's really crazy! I'm afraid to ever say the pain meds aren't working again. I almost lost what I had the last time. It's like they know you're at they're mercy, and treat you accordingly!

I should have said, this brand of this drug sure slows me down. I never had this problem with Watson brand. I was able to function normally.

Hi Lisa,

I am taking the percocet 5/325. This month the pharmacy didn't have Watson, they had Actavis. I called around that day, and a lot of pharmacies had switched to Actavis. Even CVS. Walmart said they didn't have any at all. So I went ahead and filled it at Walgreen's, my usual pharmacy. I only have 11 days to go now, and I can't wait. I'm actually afraid that I will run out, as this seems to require me to take more, to try to get some pain relief. As you probably read in my earlier post, I found some pretty good reviews on the Qualitest brand. I'm going to see if Costco has Watson first though. I will check again tomorrow as I couldn't get through today.

Hi Lisa,

i dont know what I'm going to get. sort of at the mercy of the pain doctors. I will be asking for oxycodone or roxicet. I am mad that the pharmacist didnt tell us. I asked why. She said' Oh, theyre supposed to". Lied right to my face. The doctors treat you like an addict when you ask to change. No perhaps we are the REAL pain sufferers who notice when a pain med is cut with aspirin and doesnt work for pain. Perhaps we're really in PAIN.They have played all kinds of games with me. We're just trying to survive!

Hi Carol - how is your pain level today? Were you able to talk to your doctor about what generic you are going to take? Are you still taking the Actavis. I am waiting to get my new RX refilled and it will not be with Actavis EVER again. Just wondering which one you are going to go with as alot of people are wondering what other generic would be beneficial for pain control because this Actavis is just aspirin with a whole lot of other side effects

Jan, saw your post which percocets are you taking right now if any? Are you still trying the Actavis? Or were you referring to a different medicine that was slowing you down. Thanks.

Hello all,

I tried to get in touch with Costco, but no answer. I will try again later. I am so sad that everyone is in such pain. I think if we all refuse to accept that drug in the future, it will send a powerful message. After all, money talks and that would be hitting them in the pocketbook! Martin, my pharmacist didn't seem very concerned either. And like you said, the doctors give you a bad time, when you complain about pain medication. I was threatened to be put on Subuxone, when I complained as it tells you to do on your drug information sheet. Thankfully, I saw a different sports medicine doctor, and she said she does not want me taking Subuxone. She talked about how awful it is ect. So I hope I am fine for now, getting the percocet that I've been getting. She's also talking about those spinal epidurals again, which I would be open to consider. It's just nice to have someone show compassion, and not just threaten to kick me off pain medication. People always assume when something isn't working, that you are addicted. People just want pain relief. It makes me wonder, if this is someone's sick way, of trying to wean us off this medication? Stranger things have happened! I did start sewing my flowers onto the afghan that I made. Usually, that would not have taken this long. This drug sure slows you down. Keep in touch everyone. This support is really helpful.

Hi Lisa,

Well yes the Endocet does not sound good does it? I go to a fairly large pain clinic and you see a different doc every time. I was with a PA and he is great. He had me all set and living well. But now i have to see the doctor becasue of the med change. They usually try and DOWNGRADE your pill strength. I will have to stand my ground. I would say I will try for Roxicet or Brand Oxycodone with the docotrs input. My old PA said the next step was Dilaudid but that may be too strong for me I dont know. Oh yeah, major night sweats and irritable. I take one after work and it works for 10 minutes and then heart racing and nausea. Greeaaat. My pain was 9 this morning but has dropped to a 6.

You had mentioned alot of people were having trouble with Actavis. Where else have you heard this? My pharmacy they are so slow and rude. walgreens right by a hospital. They could care less. Slower they work, the sooner they go home. You can email me at {edited for privacy} if you need to talk or if we are hogging this board.

Hi Martin, I agree the pharmacists don't understand what chronic pain is really all about and we won't get any help from them about these awful pills. As far as what I am going to go with I don't think I am going to get the endocet I have heard some people say it makes them too sleepy and I believe Jan mentinoed they made her anxious and I don' want to feel any anxiety from a pill at all so won't be going with endocet. So, it is either Roxicet or brand name. But,the brand name is going to be alot I do have insurance but have to check into what it will pay. In the meantime, I am going to have to call around and see who has the Roxicet but I thought I read some place that Target carried it because it is made by Roxanne Laboratories. i just know that when the day comes and i walk up to the pharmacy window i will NOT hand over my RX to them to fill if I dont know exactly what I will be getting. These withdrawals are just horrible I am sweating alot now, irritable, anxious and I won't even mention how high my pain is today. What do you think you will get the next time your re-fill is available?

Hi Lisa,

Yes it is ruining our lives. I compained to the pharmacist and she was like whatever. Amazing how these people can be so uncaring. My nurse said take Tylenol. That would be like peeing on a forest fire. Not very effective.
i agree, I would not wish this on anyone. I am not a happy camper and it is affecting my work, relationships etc. I see the doc on 3-18. You said you have 8 days to go. Do you know what you're going to try? keep posting please
