Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 8) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
In regards to creating the mixture of 50% Afrin and 50% Artificial tears, can anyone confirm how they were able to put the Afrin nasal spray into an eye drop bottle? The eye drop bottles do not simply open and allow you to pour liquid into them, they have a very small opening (like a needle). Did you find an eye drop bottle that allows you to unscrew the top off or did you perhaps use a syringe to inj. the Afrin into the small opening of another eye drop bottle?
Please let me know as I would like to follow very safe procedures when creating this diluted mixture and avoid contamination at all costs.
Not that I have personally tried to create the mixture (although I'm thinking of it)... I have popped the top off of the Visine LR bottle quite easily and was able to put it back, just as easily. Now, is this going to be a sterile bottle? probably not. Just letting you know, you can pop the top off and replace it.
Hi everyone,
Well, ordering the Oxylin Liquifilm (same exact percentage of oxymetazoline in Visine L.R., is proving to be a little more difficult than I had imagined. They've arrived to the U.S. from South Africa, however, DHL contacted me to say I need to fill out a form required by the FDA with my SS#, prescription number, etc. DHL instructed to state ordering in place of OTC product that was discontinued in the US. My order is currently on hold in Cinn, OH. I'm going to fill out what I can...we'll see. I'm thinking this may not be approved in the end.
Juank, I'm curious, do you order the Zoamet eye drops from India? Did you experience having to fill out the same type of form? Do you order online and will you provide the web address? I had looked into Zoamet but wasn't able to order. Any info would be very helpful and appreciated!
Reponse to post 702 Rich:
As others have mentioned, it is very easy to pop off the top of one of your used Visine LR bottles. I unscrew the cap, and push/pull to a side. The top dropper will loosen off. I do not touch the dropper, but rather leave it in the cap upside down on the table.........so as not to incur outside bacteria. Once the top is off, I use 1 drop of Afrin to 2 drops of Visine tears. Rather easy to count the drops as you are adding them to the bottle. I typically fill the bottle half way. Once done adding the two solutions, take the upside down cap (which houses the dropper), and screw back on. The dropper will re-seat back in its normal place. I then mix the two solutions (but do not shake). Once completed, your Visine LR is ready to relieve your red eyes. Again, I realize many are not willing to take the risk, however, I have not experienced any side or adverse affects. Also, I have not experienced any type of different feeling. One final note, I use Afrin original nasal spray 12 hour maximum relief.
"The post ref FDA warnings doesn't address the fact that Tetrahydrzaline and Naphazoline are listed along with oxymetazoline"? Then why does my first sentence make the statement "I can only imagine that the Oxymetazoline was having the most adverse effects (over the other two ingredients) when accidentally ingested."???
It is more than likely that J & J pulled VLR because it had major liability issues associated with taking the drug on a daily basis... IMO the reason it was discontinued was not because J & J can't obtain the "miracle drug" but rather because they don't want to obtain the drug out of fear of litigation. I can only imagine that they had their own private studies done after the FDA warning and we will never know the results of the evaluation! But hey if you think a multi-billion dollar company like J & J would discontinue a product that actually worked because they can't obtain the ingredients, while various other companies are currently using the same ingredient, then that's your opinion but it just sounds silly to me.
Just mixed my own drops with Afrin and Visine Tears. Fantastic!
I ordered them through alldaypils. It's 20.00 plus 25.00 shipping for 5 bottles. It might be a better deal on eBay if you're getting that many bottles for that price/shipping charges. It got delayed at customs but if you stay in contact with them they will make sure it gets to you. Second order was not delayed.
Just picked up 2 bottles VLR for $53.00 off ebay. exp 12/15. Happy days..... Go through the bid Auction. Last saw a single bottle going for over 80. Don't do the BUY NOW.
I just called the Visine consumer center. The rep stated all he could find is that there was a manufacturing issue but that was about it. They do take feedback seriously and I was on the phone with him for 30 minutes. He also said there is talk of a new product on the horizon and he could not state that the ingredient was oxymetazoline but we both agreed they did not need to put another eyedrop with tetrahydrozoline like all their other visine's. Will ask you questions about if you tried their other products and if they worked. Also, they put you on a contact list if any new LR info comes out such as putting back on the market. If you are on any other message boards for visine LR, encourage everyone to call. Here is their info: Consumer Care Center 1-888-734-7648. Their specialists are available Monday-Friday 8AM-8PM EDT. Thank you and we hope to hear from you.
I did receive an order of Zoamet. I used it at 7am, and now 1245pm - it's the same as LR would be. Big thumbs up so far!!!!
VLR Lover or Anyone Else,
I am just wondering if you have tried contacting Custom Prescriptions of Lancaster?
Thank you.
Haven't actually completed an order from there, since I noticed the shipping to the US fee was 63 dollars. Sure, the 10ml bottle is under five dollars, but ebay method is still cheaper.
O.k. I stopped using B & L along with Zoamet and now Zoamet truly seems to be working for me. I think I was confusing my poor eyes. For those that have experienced receiving empty bottles, that happened to me as well. I had received three empty bottles. Amy at AllDayPills did keep her word and sent me three additional bottles when I placed my second order. All of the bottles arrived intact and full. However, I'm anxious for the Allergex to arrive from a seller on eBay. We'll see!
DJ, I'm so happy for you! I wonder if many of us shouldn't see an opthamologist. I have been dealing with this for many years. I do think some of what I'm experiencing is a simple rebound effect but my eyes were red before I started using eye drops, especially in the morning.
Give Bausch & Lamb advanced redness relief a try. I was an LR user for years and tried various other Visine products with absolutely no luck. In truth most of their products caused my eyes to get redder. Tried B&L based on a post that I read and I am very happy with the results.
Has anyone tried the Oxylin eye drops yet? I've seen some good reviews online so I bought a bottle. I was wondering what to expect from the product and can't find any reviews on this forum.
Hi Rabbi,
I tried to order Oxylin from South Africa. It made it to the U.S. just fine but the freight company wanted me to fill out a form required by the FDA regarding the shipment. One requirement was my social security number. I just didn't feel comfortable with that and wasted my good money to have the freight company return the product. I have tried Zoamet and it works fine with a little initial stinging. What I like even better is Allergex! I have ordered two bottles from a seller on ebay and it works fantastically! The prices are coming down a bit as there seems to be a number of sellers.
I was using B & L max relief which in my opinion is the next best eye drop without oxymetazoline but it just doesn't live up to drops with oxy.
This morning, I used my B & L (max. redness relief) and went to see a show. I felt as though I got enough sleep last night and didn't feel tired. My eyes have been feeling strained for days since I have been on my computer a lot. When I got home this afternoon, I was shocked by how red my eyes were. If I had known they were that red, I wouldn't go anywhere.
The oxymetazoline in Visine LR would shrink the blood vessels in my eyes almost instantly. Sometimes my eyes felt a little strange after I applied it... like I could feel the vessels constricting. Days like today, I really miss Visine LR.
Hi Meenal - I tried that one too and really like it!!! I am using the last of my LR now- and it's not even close (could be because it expired a few months ago!) But I actually prefer the Cendo Asthenhof now.
Karl,
I can confirm what Rhonda has stated. We both have personally written to many companies asking them to make an eye drop with oxymetazoline. I have even put two petitions on change.org to no avail. For some reason, (I tend to agree with Rhonda about the economy) companies are not interested in manufacturing these eyedrops here in the United States at this time. We all also share information on this link about possible substitutes to use in the interim and post updates on any new occurrences that may lead to bringing Visine LR back or the manufacturing of a new eyedrop with oxymetazoline. I am sad to say that I have exhausted all avenues.
