Bobby paid $300 for an expired bottled of LR? He's not a cheapskate, I'd call him a sucker. LOL. What a fool when you can buy Allergen or Allergex with Oxymetazoline for about $19 a bottle. Obviously he's a newbie to this thread.

READ THIS! I used LR for years (15-20) and having been going crazy since it went bye-bye. I finally found Cendo - trust me, this stuff has made my eyes as clear and smooth as they used to be with LR, it is godsend. Expensive because the bottles are small, but WELL WORTH IT!!!! I bought a tester 4 pack of Cendo, Zoamet, Allergex and Oxylin for about $100 - which is not cheap, but is a great start. I didn't really like Zoamet or Allergex (but didn't really give them a proper chance yet, which I will eventually), the Oxylin isn't too bad, but the Cendo is awesome. Bought a 4-pack of Cendo, packages always delivered in 2 days (NJ to MD). Bring back LR!

I agree CENDO is the best answer now but it's only 5ml.

Any advise on how to find it at a reasonable price? Seems it's very inexpensive in its home country- Indonesia

Hi, where did you buy the CENDO from & how much did it cost? Thanks

I found Cendo to be no better than Allergex. Also, as stated before, 5ml vs. 15ml.

Where exactly are you able to still buy LR visine? And do you know why they discontinued it?

Bought a bottle of Allergex. So far it's been a week and found it to work exactly the same as the LR. $38.00/15ml. It works for me. Little expensive but I don't like the feel of the tears/Afrin mix which I tried a couple of days. So far very happy.

I posted the information below some time ago and was wondering if anyone has had success. I don't see much discussion about it but I can tell you it stills works great for me ( and you can get a double pack in Walmart for about $5.00)

I have been using B&L Advanced Eye Relief for several months now and it is working better than Visine LR. Don't get any burning sensation and my eyes are not nearly as red when I wake up in the morning and are even whiter than LR when I use the drops. I think prolonged use of LR aggravated the problem. Must get the Advanced Relief Redness Maximum Relief with .03% naphazoline hydrochloride. Other brands have a lesser content of this ingredient and they don't work. I used LR for many years and Occuclear before that and was very upset when J & J discontinued LR, but, for me at least, I have found a better alternative.

I agree with you about the B&L Advanced Care. I'm perfectly satisfied with this alternative, and I also get the two-pack at Walmart. I have a two bottle stock of Allergex that I like to use on occasion, especially when I have a long day into the night... but I use it sparingly.

My bottle of Oxylin says "do NOT use after 30 days of opening."

Will it harm my eyes if I use it after 30 days?

The expiration date is still 6 months away at July 2017

Also, which is better: Allergex , Cendo, or B&L Max Redness Relief?

Allergex - suggests do not use after 30 days of opening. Maybe one of Two things. They are covering their butt because the preservative used or non use of is only guaranteed to last that long after oxygen inception after unsealing the bottle. I've read doctors statements that eye drops should be discarded after 90 days due to possible contamination from the tip touching you eyes or lids. (2) Eye drops generally state not using > 5-6 days if symptoms don't go away. Personally I'm not worried about their statement. I'd be more worried about putting Afrin in my eyes. I have a 1 1/2 year expired bottle of LR that I keep for backup and use it once awhile just to make sure it;s OK.

I'll give you the two main reasons it was discontinued. Firstly, Visine LR was the best selling, fasting selling, and most importantly the best redness reliever available with or without a script.

Now, you might ask why they would take away the "mountain dew" of soda, well there in lies the risks and benefit factors. The FDA and DEA are separate animals, but they work along side one another. It only takes one of these federal administration's act to ban chemical. However, the benefits of oxametazoline out weigh the side effects most definitely; thus the DEA has no problem. The FDA however believes in cross chemical use, as long as people were made aware that many nasal sprays contain the same ingredient. A study showed over 85% of frequent eye drop users also admitted they used nasal spray on a regular basis as well.

This meant, either the FDA allow it for a certain use, single purpose by label. If not, the DEA had wrap that the drug actually had interactions with class 1 drugs, stating a side effect "Use with Bromocriptine because the actions and side effects of these medicines may be increased". The potential for abuse became red flagged for LR, and the product was forced to be liquidated as an optometrilogical medicine. Nasal form has ingredients that may irritate the eye and are never recommended for use other than directed. Remember, addiction to eye drops and Nasal spray chemicals can cause blindness or worse. Overdose of Visine LR is a painful way to go out.

FULL ANSWER AS TO WHY VISINE L.R. IS GONE - stupid kids...
Visine L.R. was an eye drop product that reduced redness in the eyes and had a long-lasting effect. Visine no longer has the product or product information listed on its website. On October 25, 2012, the FDA announced severe adverse events associated with children accidentally ingesting certain eye drops, including Visine L.R. Children under the age of 5 with accidental ingestion of oxymetazoline experienced serious and life-threatening reactions such as coma, decreased heart rate and sedation that required hospitalization. However, no deaths were a result of Visine L..R. ingestion. The product disappeared from store shelves shortly after the announcement. Oxymetazoline continues to be an ingredient in nasal spray.

Unfortunately Erika, that is not true. If you read the full FDA warning from October 25, 2012, several other vasoconstictor agents (still in use in popular eye drops today) were also named. The FDA made no mention of requiring manufacturers from removing drops specifically made with oxymetazoline from store shelves. Why would they make Visine remove eye drops but not nasal sprays containing same ingredient? C'mon, it would make no sense.

Hi folks. I'm also still using my Bausch + Lomb Advanced Care Eye Relief eye drops. They feel good in my eyes and make me look "halfway" decent, but gosh, what a change from Visine LR which made my eyes stand-out bright.

I keep hoping that with the tax codes changing under the new administration, a business will go out on a limb and bring our beloved oxymetazoline eye drops back. If the economy gets any better, maybe I will start writing letters again to some of the companies.

Oh my goodness. I just bought a bottle of B+L Advanced Eye Relief. I had looked for the 1 and 2-pack cartons at Walmart for a few weeks and found none on the shelves. All gone from all three Walmarts in my area. So, right away I go, "Hmm..." A family member said, "Oh they just sell out so fast and they have to receive a new shipment."

I'm like, "Yea, right!"

Anyway, I got a $1 off coupon in the paper this past week for the eye drops and was happy about it. This morning, I went to Walmart again and looked and looked for my familiar packaging of this eye drops. I then looked closer and saw that it is in a new package--light blue and white. It's now called, "Advanced Eye Relief." You see no more "Maximum Redness Relief" on the carton. It's just says "Redness."

So, you know how suspicious I am. I don't trust the manufacturers at all anymore. They change every product now, slowly cutting and cutting ingredients. Anyway, on the outside at the top of the package it says, "NEW LOOK! same formula."

Right away I looked at the ingredients.

Well, now the amount of Naphazoline hydrochloride (the redness reliever) in the eye drops is at 0.012%. The last formula had it at 0.03%. The lubricant in the product is now Polyethylene and it's at 0.2%, whereas before it was Hypromellose and it was at 0.5%. The preservative in the eye drops (benzalkonium chloride) remains the same at 0.01%.

Are these companies going broke or what? Greed? Why do SO MANY products have to be changed from what they were originally. I don't get it.

Rhonda go to the B&L company page. The product you describe is still made and lists the same ingredients in the same percentage. Maybe you were looking at a different B&L product at walmart. They did not change the formula.

Hi Todd!

I'm hoping I bought the wrong formula, but why call the eye drops I just bought "Advanced Eye Relief" just like the other one I've been using all this time? And that one is still missing from the Walmarts in my area. Are there 2 different formulas of Advanced Eye Relief eye drops by B & L?

I sure hope you're right, but this could also be the start of them "phasing out" the "Advanced Eye Relief / Maximum Redness Relief" formula and going to the new one. Stores then start selling out the last bottles they have, and then Ebay carries the very last ones for a high price.

I'll look again when I go to Walmart on Thursday. Surely by then, the shelves for the stronger Advanced Eye Relief should not be empty.

Right after I wrote my last post, I went to the Baush + Lomb website to view their products.

Yes, thank God. B + L does make 2 "different" Advanced Eye Relief formulas!

:-)

Phew!!! What a relief!

One is called "Redness" and the other one is called "Maximum Redness Relief."

I guess that just like my family member said, they've sold out. Consumers must be catching on that after Visine LR, the maximum redness relief formula is one of the best eye drops left on the market.

Well, next time I'll do a better job at researching things before I freak out. :-)
