Occifer,

You know, I think it comes down to the almighty dollar at the end of the day. It has to do with money.

Visine LR had devoted consumers. It was the only eye drops many of us bought for years and years. So many products come onto the market today, and in no time at all, they are changed by the manufacturers. They immediately begin "snipping" away at the original product, removing ingredients, making them less effective, cheaper quality, cheaper to produce. Years ago, it seemed that products remained the same for generations.

The Visine brand probably takes in plenty of money for all their other ineffective eye drops that are bought by people who don't know better. Perhaps removing the oxymetazoline will "help" some of the other companies who may be lagging in sales. And Johnson & Johnson saves money by omitting the oxymetazoline.

Notice how most supermarkets and department stores carry certain products that others do not. They balance each other out somewhat. Walmart dominates and I'm sure it is not lacking in sales, but even Walmart won't carry everything. Sometimes you are forced to go to another store to get a particular product or food item. Then too, Walmart will carry things like poor quality fruits and vegetables and you have to go to another grocery store to get the higher quality fruits and vegetables.

I believe these companies work together in some ways.

A user (rtrsr) on another thread referred us to a compounding company willing to make the eye drops if you have a prescription:

"Custom Prescriptions of Lancaster
902 N Duke St
Lancaster, PA 17602
They do have a website
Ask for Andrea"

Other people have posted that they haven't received email responses from the company so I contacted them over the phone. They were very helpful. I can only imagine that there are other compounding pharmacies out there willing to do the same so I'd just start calling around if they won't ship to your area.

The Opcon-A eyedrops have started to work for me almost the same as the LR I keep reading everyones idea of why Visine discontinued the LR before I had posted my eye doctor found calcifications under my eyelids when I told her I used the LR she told me the Oxymetazoline in the Visine can cause this she wanted me to stop using I did not.I went back for my ck up last week the calcifications are gone. So this is why I believe Visine discontinued as I believed before. I think they will never admit it in fear of litigation, ect. That's JMO but makes sense if it was low sales no interest they would say so. I'm happy with the Opcon-A I don't believe any US manufacturer will add that to their eyedrops because of the FDA warnings. Just my two cents and I hope everyone here is able to find their effective alternative.

There are so many scammers in society. I especially feel sorry for the elderly. When "some" people are desperate for money, they are willing to do almost anything to get it. All sense of right and wrong goes out the window.

Another thing to be sure about with these pharmacy companies producing oxymetazoline is if their websites are secure.

A few years ago, I attempted to place an order online with a well-known manufacturer, but an error occurred and the order didn't go through... supposedly. Then I immediately noticed the site was not secure, so I scrapped the order completely. However, just that quickly, someone got my info and charged $200 on my credit card.

Hi Occifer,

It looks like the dropper bottle is all one piece, but it's not. The separation is at the bottom of the tip, right before the area with the horizontal swirls (for the cap to twist onto). You may not see it if your eyesight is poor, but it's there.

Hi Cindy,

Gosh, what a disappointment! I haven't ordered the Zoamet yet, and now I have serious reservations. Perhaps I will find a way to write the company and let them know that they have a desired product and they can "make a killing" in sales if they can get the shipping/customs thing corrected. That might be a great incentive for them.

You stated Zoamet did not work as well as Visine LR. I'm thinking it could be due to the amount of oxymetazoline they're using. It's possible it's not the same strength.

Anyhow, I just hope we can all finally be satisfied and have what we want. :-)

Received 2 bottles of VLR today from Ebay for $53.00. exp 12/2015. This would appear to be the outmost expiration date. Don't buy a bottle for ~ $ 100, or 2 for $ 200. and, DON'T use the "BUY NOW" option. If you want the last of the VLR like myself go for the bidding on the 12/2015 expiration in hope of a manufacturer setting itself up for HUGE sales in the nearby future.

Chris Rock once said: "you can drive a car with your feet... but should you do it?"

Putting nose spray in your eyes might work but it's definitely not safe. Eye drops have to be specifically buffered for the eye because the eye is so sensitive to infection.

Every time you make your own mixture of eye drops using nose spray you should set aside all the money you saved because there is a chance you will need it for your eye surgery!

I've been using Allergex for a while now and haven't had any issues. I can't even tell the difference from the Visine Workplace and L.R. formula!

I tried that site. I ordered 5 bottles to counter the $60 shipping charge. Figured that $100 for 5 bottles was a good deal rather than paying $50 for one from ebay. When they arrived 3 were smashed and emptied all over the remaining 2 boxes. I ended up paying $100 for 2 bottles in the end and it took a while to get here. They said that if I buy more they will replace the lost bottles but I figure it will just happen again. I hate customs and often think they destroy items just for the fun of it!

I too discovered Zoamet and it works great just like Visine LR. Nothing else works. I use it maybe every other day and it gets the red out!

Has anyone on here who has been a long time user of Visine LR undergone Lasik surgery? Just curious to see if that presented any challenges. I am contemplating it, but interested to see if there is any feedback.

Thanks
Mark

I am going to be traveling to Toronto, Canada are there any eyedrops you would recommend that I should buy with the same ingredients as Visine LR ??

This is for Inna - In Canada LR was called Visine Workplace. I ordered from a Canadian pharmacy when they had run out the last time. I believe Workplace was discontinued as well, but it may be worth trying.

Yes from what I understand Visine Workplace was discontinued the same time that Visine LR was discontinued. So far, I haven't heard from any manufacturers in the United States planning to make an eyedrop with oxymetazoline (as least they are not disclosing it.)
I like many others have been using B&L Redness Relief eyedrops. Definitely not the same as Visine LR for me but better than nothing.
I continue to keep on the lookout and monitor this thread.

Thank you everyone for the continued information and input.

Allergex works much better than Zoamet. I could fill my empty bottles of visine lr with Allergex and you wouldn't even know the difference if I let you use it!
