Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 46) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
I'm so disappointed... I dug down deep and dished out $50 for an expired bottle of Visine LR. It's dated 2/14 and it is really weak. I think the active ingredient has lost quality since it is so old. I have to apply 3-4 drops before I shower and another 3-4 drops after I get out of the shower to see the same results as I was getting with 1-2 drops of my bottle that expired a couple months ago. My previous bottle lasted me 4 months but I'll be surprised if this bottle lasts me 4 weeks! ugh!!!!
Have you experienced and sinus headaches?
I'm still currently using B+L Advanced Eye Relief (Redness Maximum Relief). Still no comparison to the oxymetazoline eye drops. The B+L works okay as long as I've rested well and have no irritants in my eyes... but on "THOSE DAYS," the ones when I'm tired and I've awakened with deeply bloodshot eyes, the B+L is pretty useless, though still better than nothing. I have to reapply the eye drops throughout the day and my eyes never truly brighten to what Visine LR got them to.
And what about people who are straining their eyes by reading and looking at computer monitors all day? I'm not working right now, but I feel very self conscious about what I will look like when I return to the workplace.
Have just left prison, where you cannot get anything good (and you still pay an arm and a leg on canteen!) and wanted to go back to Visine LR. (I had survived the last shortage 10 years or so ago. Looked all around now and found many references to Oxylin by Allergan, but only sold outside the US. Does look like i can get a source from South Africa (don't trust Indian manufacture.) Did talk to Allergan in CA this afternoon, and hope to hear back Monday. Will let you know what I find out!
Its the mix I do and it works very well! Better than LR I believe?

I've also tried B + L's Opcon A, and I've found the Advanced Eye Relief to be slightly more effective.
Inna, if I'm correct, B + L's Advanced Eye Relief contains a little more of the redness reliever ingredient (Naphazoline) than the Opcon-A, so maybe the lubricant in the Advanced Eye Relief is making it less effective for you.
I didn't want a lubricant in my eye drops at first, but I've found that it feels pretty good in my eyes and the Advanced Eye Relief does not sting them at all.
This morning, I awoke with good rest and my eyes looked pretty clear. I was going out early and I decided to use my Visine LR because I wanted nice, bright eyes for the remainder of the day.
Well, after only a few hours, my eyes were red and irritated. Nothing got into my eyes and I wore minimal makeup. So, knew it had to be the Visine LR. The drops expired in September, so I guess they have finally lost their "oomph." For them to cause irritation, maybe certain ingredients are going bad, so I tossed the last bit in the bottle.
I hope those of you mixing your own solutions are being EXTRA careful and clean. I was watching "Animal Planet" a few days ago. A teen girl got a parasite in her eye via her contact lens case. She was just a normal teenager wearing her contact lenses every day. Apparently, the parasite is in the environment and it likes to live in contact lens cases. The girl was in horrific pain as the parasite started burrowing itself deeper into her eye. She didn't know what it was. Some doctors also misdiagnosed her in the beginning. She almost lost her eye.
You are very welcome, Christina. And thanks to you also for all you have done and continue to do.
I am Meenal, from India. I have started using Allergex since last month and am finding its the best of all the other options I have tried - Vising A, Opcon A, Zoamet.
Cendo Asthenof works better than Visine LR. I think the Vit-A in it makes my eyes fell fresher than I feel when I go back to my LR.
Everyone is so helpful. I just want to make sure before I order any of the suggested eye drops, they are sealed and from a trusted web site. Let's continue to keep each other informed. Thank you all!
Hi , I tried Cendo Asthenhof for the first time yesterday, and today again , and yes, I do find it the best , as good as Visine LR. I had ordered one small bottle online and it was very expensive. I tried to check websites from Indonesia but I haven't been able to find it at a better price anywhere else. Can anyone tell me where it might be found over the counter?
Allergex and Oxylin are great products. Reasonable price online.
Has anyone tried to have Allergex or Oxylin shipped to Canada off the internet? If so, any problems?
I had a surgery in 1985 that caused nerve damage to my eye, I suffered red eye constantly. My doctor, opthomologist, etc. tried every drop and salve, by day or at sleep, and nothing worked. By chance I found Oxyclear, containing Oxymetazaline, the only thing that works. When Oxyclear went out of business, there was a group of people in a panic, shar ng on the internet like now, and voila, Visine LR came to the rescue! I've used oxy for over 30 years. Please write Visine to get this product back on the shelf.
Hi Karl,
We have all done our best. Written many letters. Got responses, but no one is ready to create new oxymetazoline eye drops yet. Perhaps when the economy improves, someone will be willing to take a chance again. There is a need for the drops, but it seems so many companies are still in the process of "cutting."
I emailed Visine and they replied that the product was discontinued in July 2014 due to manufacturing difficulties. The translation of this biz-speak is that the small runs of Visine LR just weren't profitable enough. They did say that they continue to look at "exciting" product ideas using oxymetazaline. There are a number of overseas producers of oxy eye drops, but they are all in the $30-$60 range, where I used to by Visine LR for $6 or less. Also, nasal sprays still use oxy in the same strength, but nasal sprays usually contain menthol, saline, or citrus, making them dangerous for the eyes. One last idea would be to ask your doctor or pharmacist if they could make a supply of solution containing oxymetazoline.
Prior to using the last of my visine lr, I began the search for an alternative. Any brands over the counter in the U.S. did not work for me. I tried Zoamet and it is ok, but results didn't last very long. I then tried Allergex and I am very satisfied. I believe it's better than lr and my eyes are whiter for longer.
This is interesting, please re-post if you discover any problems.
What would happen if you used Afrin without cutting it with an eye drop?
I looked at the Afrin ingredients and they look tame enough, but I don't know what all they are.
