Hello Dman,

Where did you see this info?

"J & J is working to get Visine LR back on the market. "

Has anyone tried diluting Nostrilla nasal spray? It has the same active ingredient as Visine LR

Are they really? I keep seeing conflicting info. I sure hope that is true!!!! I would be one happy person!!!!

Yes, it burned my eyes a little but not bad. I did try the distilled water and afrin 50/50....it works very good. It may be in my head but I still really like Visine LR the best. I think because it is actually for your eyes and not a nose spray, LOL!!! ;)

Visine customer care provided the information. I would advise everyone to call Visine's Consumer Care Center at 1-888-734-7648, (Monday - Friday, 9am to 5pm) and put a bug in their ear about this issue.

I wonder if using artificial tears (instead of water) to dilute the Afrin would be something worth trying? Even a bottle of Walmart's brand (very inexpensive) would probably be much more soothing than water, which can sting a little if your eyes are sensitive.

That would be great, why would Visine quit making such a great product that sold so good for them.

I mixed another dose of Afrin and Visine tears (50/50) vs. the Afrin + purified water. The result is great. No very slight burn at all. Again, I cannot emphasize enough of how good this works. And, if Visine is not going to bring their product back it is their loss. Thanks to all who have posted on here with the working alternative. My eyes appreciate being clear! As a note, I did try Clear eyes maximum redness relief, and it worked some, but not like the Afrin. Wish you all the best.

#619 missvisineLR,

That's true. I didn't even think about how the makers of Afrin already use oxymetazoline for their nasal spray. It probably wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to create oxymetazoline eye drops too.

I'm going to write the makers of Afrin. We really have to keep applying the pressure, folks!

Looks like an Indonesian company by the name of 'purchaseindonesian' carries this product and ships internationally. I haven't tried them out but someone may want to. $30.00 ea. Appears legit.

Cendo Asthenoff (5mL) containing: Oxymethazoline HCl 0.25% + Vitamin A

Rhonda an MissVisineLR,

I contacted Bayer back in November last year as they are the makers of Afrin.

Let me know if you hear from them. At that time, they thanked me for the comment/request to make an eyedrop with oxymetazoline but essentially that was all they said.

Thanks to you both and everyone who is actively helping to find a solution!

It works very well! Visine tears 0.5/oz diluted 50% with Afrin original 0.5/oz. Visine tears is buffered for ph for the eyes and only contains lubricants and no antihistamine or decongestant has been added. Adding the oxymetazoline reduces active ingredient interaction. I am not a chemist, doctor, or anyone related to the pharmaceutical industry. This is only a personal finding.

This Does Work,

Pretty sure it does work, but is it safe? That is the question.

I was talking to a friend of mine about this blog. I hadn't questioned it before, but she found it hard to believe that some of the posters here are mixing these ingredients themselves and putting them into their eyes without first checking with an eye care professional.

After my limited research about sterilization, I just couldn't do it. The thought of a bacteria entering my eye and causing me to go blind is too scary to think about. I really hope those of you daring to do it will not regret it later on. Seriously.

I would stay away from the home pharmacy mixtures and keep up any possible pressure on J & J to bring back L.R. It bothers me more that they won't explain why it was discontinued in the first place. From what I heard, when they do bring it back it'll be under another name other than L.R. according to Visine customer care.

I agree with you Rhonda I do know my eye Dr told me because I had used Visine LR for so many years it may take me up to a yr to "withdraw" from it she also told me I had calcium deposits from it under my eyelids thats what oxymetazoline does I'm wondering if thats why they discontinued it anyway I'm afraid to put nose spray in my eyes

May I ask how long you were using the Visine LR? I have been using it probably 13 years.....it will probably take me forever to withdraw from it.

Do you worry about bacteria in your eyes after showering, swimming, just washing your face? Sterile only covers the production of the product via the 'FDA'. Once you open any sterile product It's no longer 'Sterile'. Sterility is based on 0.45 micron filtration at final production. I don't like the idea of mixing my own brew. But, a challenge has been set forth for the people that rely on a product that only offers relief without other options. This is just a 'Put in a corner solution' not medically or scientifically proven.

Since before it was called LR probably 15 yrs or so

This Does Work,

It's true that nothing is completely sterile, but it seems that there might be an "allowed" amount of bacteria in eye products that still renders them safe. That's similar to the foods we eat. They have traces of rat droppings, insects, etc from the factories and machinery that produce them, but it's a safe amount that will not make us ill or die.

It's just that (at least in my case) I'm not willing to take the chance with my eyes. If I lose my sight, it's gone for good and it would devastate my life.
