Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 31)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
Are you saying you used Equate Nasal Spray instead of Afrin?
If so, the ingredients in the Equate Nasal Spray are:
Phenylephrine Hydrochloride/Benzalkonium Chloride/Benzyl Alcohol/Boric Acid/Sodium Borate/Water
The nasal spray diluted thing just seems dangerous to me JMO
I did try the B&L maximum redness relief - (or whatever it is!) and it did work for the most part- but by 1pm, they were red again. I didn't FEEL like it though - which was a plus- so, in a pinch... if there isn't an alternative, I guess it will have to do.
I also cannot find eyedrops with oxymetazoline anywhere. It was the only thing that worked. I loved it. I've bought everything else. No result. Feels like my eyes never feel wake. Now what? . I miss it.
I'm in such a panic mode, folks!
I'm basically down to my last bottle of Visine LR (there's just a small amount left in the bottle before it). I purchased two bottles (value pack) of Bausch + Lomb Advanced Relief eye drops (Redness Maxiumum Relief). I decided to open and try the eye drops this morning.
Gosh, I am so disappointed!
Yea, I don't look completely like the "walking dead," but I'm just a tad bit away from it. :-)
I used quite a bit of the B+L in each eye. There was no burning. I think the lubricant helps with that. I also don't have any makeup or mascara on today--that can irritate your eyes when using eye drops. Anyhow, I just looked into the mirror and, let me just say that this situation is KILLING me!!
My eyes look nothing like they do with the Visine LR. There is no comparison! I believe I also need the oxymetazoline ingredient. I would never feel good about going out with my eyes looking like this. The improvement is extremely slight. It's so slight that it's not really worth it. I look like a different person--almost like a wino! With the Visine LR, my eyes turn whiter immediately.
Well, it's back to begging this week. It's back to writing Johnson & Johnson and Walmart again, Walgreens -- and any of the larger pharmacies here in the USA.
To be honest, I want my eye drops coming to me "through" one of the tried, true and respected companies in the U.S. I'm just not comfortable with any of the foreign businesses that I've never heard of before.
I believe there is a better way that J&J can produce a similar product to our beloved Visine LR. Maybe they could cut down on some of the other ingredients to save money, but still create a new safe and effective oxymetazoline eye drops.
Traci @ #604,
My experience was different. My eyes didn't sting when I used the B+L eye drops, but by the afternoon, they didn't feel exactly normal. I can tell there is a lubricant in the eye drops. They don't feel irritated, but just not as refreshed as they do with the Visine LR and, of course, my eyes still look somewhat irritated, red and tired. This is definitely not a good look for me. I don't know what I'm going to do if something isn't done--soon!
Rhonda....it could have been because I was well rested that day and minimal computer use. (Not typical ) I'll have to try again.
Honestly, today my eyes were never white. This is really frustrating! If all I had were these B+ L eye drops, I wouldn't want anyone to see me. Seriously. It's such a humongous difference.
Traci,
I am glad you are getting some help from Bausch and Lomb. Unfortunately, I am with Rhonda. My eyes remained red and irritated. I guess everyone will respond differently.
For everyone else,
I am in contact with a purchasing coordinator with Walgreens. She is going to talk with the Visine Representative to find out about Visine LR. I told her that Johnson and Johnson has been giving conflicting information. Are they planning to introduce a "new" eyedrop with oxymetazoline or is this product and formulation forever discontinued? I am hoping that the Visine representative might have more reliable information than Johnson and Johnson customer care. I will post any updates I receive.
I also told Walgreens if they could sell any eyedrop with oxymetazoline they would definitely be a popular product.
Ha- again - it could have been an anomaly! They were red by early afternoon. Better than regular visine or max relief visine for sure though. Definitely not a replacement by any means. I'm still sick over it. I do have 2 bottles of LR left. and I showed my husband how much they are going for on Amazon - and he was like- Why are you not selling them?! He doesn't get it, does he?! LOL :)
Although I have a couple new bottles of Visine LR in storage, I have purchased Afrin and will mix with distilled water as an experiment. I will follow up with another post to let you know the results.
You are very lucky to have a couple left. Mix Afrin and water half & half you just have to use a little, works all day for me
Traci,
What you said is another reason why I need the oxymetazoline eye drops. I use eye drops when my face is washed and bare. After I apply my makeup in the morning and go out and about or to work, I can't then put more eye drops into my eyes in a few hours. My eyes would get irritated because some of the foundation and mascara seeps into them.
Visine LR is so good that I'd use it in the morning, put on makeup, and my eyes still looked decent at the end of the day.
Ark Jack,
Verified! Used Afrin and purified water (half and half), and the results are in. Overall, the same clarity as using Visine LR. I recommend those reading this thread consider using the valid alternative. You will not be disappointed.
Clear Eyes Maximum Redness Relief works fairly well. I use it 2 times a day. Its not LR, but it is much better than any of the other Visine products. Its crazy how good LR was!
Rick,
I'm pretty sure your homemade solution would clear away redness because the Afrin nasal spray contains the magical oxymetazoline. My concern is about how you are preparing your solution. I mean, we are instructed to avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface because of germs.
Sterilization is extremely important. I pulled this up online regarding preparations for the eyes:
slideshare.net/shubhrajit/opthalmic-preparation
It says, (5) sterility: "Psuedomonas aeroginosa is very common gram -ve bacteria which is generally found to be present in opthalmic products. It may cause serious infections of the cornea. It can cause complete loss of eye sight in 24-48 hours.
To maintain sterility in multi dose container, containing ophthalmic products, a suitable preservative is added. The preservative should be non toxic, non-irritant and should be compatible with medicaments. The opthalmic products are generally sterilized by autoclaving, filtration through bacteria proof filters and addition of bactericides at low temperature."
I'm writing my letters again. I wrote a few already this week. Today, I'll be writing Walgreens. I know some of you have contacted Walgreens already, but I think Walgreens hearing from additional consumers can only help. I'll continue to direct these companies/pharmacies to this website. Hopefully, they will see what some of us are resorting to (using nasal sprays) just to have a solution containing oxymetazoline. I personally believe the nasal sprays could be very dangerous and, hopefully, one of these companies will care and see how important Visine LR was to us.
I wish Afrin could make the eye drops we love so much since they have the ingredient :)
That would be nice. I can't believe how many people can't function without this stuff! Myself included. I think the eyes get dependent on it.
