Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 30)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
Christina,
Same here... I don't have allergies either. I also don't have a dry eye problem, so I don't really need a lubricant in my eye drops.
I'm off to the store to purchase another brand of eye drops, since I have only one more bottle of Visine LR. After reading the comments you and Rick posted, I'm going to try the recommended Bausch + Lomb eye drops and skip the Opcon-A altogether. I don't have money to waste.
It's amazing what a difference Visine LR has made in my life. I never go a day without using eye drops--and I don't want to. Without them, I could probably pass for an extra on "The Walking Dead." Lol! They really make me look and feel more alive.
I can't believe all these posts. Me too. Been using for over 15 years as well. I have struggled for the past year going anywhere and everywhere looking for LR. Why did they discontinue? I have spent so much money on other products. Should have googled sooner. Thanks for sharing.
Bob - Thanks for sharing the information. I could not find the product on ebay but I did see the seller. Reminds me of the Zoamet eyedrops from India. When I went to order them the entire website disappeared!
Rhonda - Let us know how Bausch and Lomb works for you. It was better for me than Opcon A but not nearly as good with redness and/or irritation as Visine LR. I can join you as an extra on "The Walking Dead!" :)
Hello all,
I have signed the petition quite a while ago and I keep checking here for updates. I just toured this board to see what kind of luck many have had with other products. I do not have allergies, so I am thinking not to bother with OPCON A??? Is Bausch and Lomb Advanced Eye Relief Redness Maximum Relief Eye Drops the product that has worked for some? I know there isn't an excellent replacement yet, but is the B&L Max the one to try? There are so many out there, I just want to pick the right one and give it a shot. Thanks.
The B & L max works for me but I haven't used it everyday-about 3xs a week.
Thanks. I see the B&L Max has a lubricant in it. I think I will give it a try. I still have a full bottle of LR, but I am treating that like gold right now. Sigh.
Hello. I tried what another person posted about getting Afrin Original nasal spray and diluting it to half the dose of Visine LR. It has the same chemical Oxymetazoline HCI AT 0.25% AND YOU mix it with distilled/purified water or saline in your old Visine bottle. And Afrin has no warning label that it's harmful to your eyes. Its Amazing the same chemical as the Visuine LR which has 0.025%. I got 3 1oz bottles(like getting 6 Visine LR) bottles for $7 at Costco. i mixed it with water 50%/50% of each. It works!
in mexico they carry eye drops with oxymetazoline, grimal and oxylin liquifilm.....
Do you know the name of the product?
Hi JuanK, thank you for sharing that information. I looked into getting Grimal from Mexico before but I couldn't find a reseller that would ship to the USA.
Do you know where you can get it shipped to the USA?
J & J is working to get Visine LR back on the market. According to customer care there is a hold up with the active ingredient. Being one of their best selling products you know they're going to solve the problem. CC said the active ingredient will remain although no time frame was stated.
grimal and oxylin liquifilm.....
Unbelievable story: I went out in the snowstorm today and went shopping. I found a lone bottle of Visine LR for sale at a regional grocery store. WOW. I bought it in a heartbeat and laughed as the clerk rang it up for $5 something. I told him this bottle was worth over $75 on eBay. He laughed in disbelief. Man, I feel like I just won the lottery.
Ok, I did a road trip in my area and found 4 more bottles of Visine LR at a regional grocery store chain. Wow, that's a total of 5 bottles found this weekend. Not bad. I think I'll keep 2 and put the other 3 on eBay. Should be able to move them at that price. My advice to anyone still scrounging around for Visine LR in your area is: 1) Forget the pharmacy chains (Walgreen's, CVS, etc.). Those places have been cleaned out of inventory because that is where people normally go to find eyedrops. 2) Look for Visine LR at your regional grocery store, because that is where people go to to get food, not eyedrops. Be sure to check the small regional chains (Piggly Wigglies, Ralph's, etc.) since you will have better luck because their inventories turn less frequently. Call each store and have the store's customer service department do the leg work for you and check their shelves for inventory. If they have some, then ask them to hold the product and drive out to pick it up. That's what I did. Be sure to describe it as Visine LR Long Lasting. Ask them to bring a bottle to the phone and read you the active ingredient (oxymetazoline) to absolutely sure. Man, my eyes feel SOOOO much better using the real deal. Good luck to you all.
Encouraging news, Dman. I just wonder why J&J can't get their story straight. I called them several weeks ago and was essentially told Visine LR would be back. I called 'em again last week and was told it was not going to come back. Frustrating.
I have just heard back from the company in South Africa who makes Allergex which has the same basic formula as Visine LR. They have requested contact information for CVS Pharmacy (which I gave them along with the reference number that CVS had previously given me on this matter.) The Allergex people indicated they wanted to make contact with CVS to see how they could get their product registered and distributed in the US. Sounds encouraging. It would be great if all of you would contact CVS customer service and encourage them to work this avenue to bring Allergex into their stores.
Not sure this will happen. FDA regulatory is strict. This product is probably not approved for human use. I'm just saying because I used to work at JNJ in Pharmacovigilence group and there are a lot of obstacles. Plus SA is not a highly sourced country due to its politics, etc. Think about it: Have you ever seen a product from SA in the pharmacy section for sale? I seriously doubt it.
RTRSR,
I did contact CVS when you originally mentioned them and the south African products that they sell. They said they would investigate the matter. I hope others will also. I believe as a group we should all contact as many revenues as possible to get an eyedrop with oxymetazoline in the US marketplace. Thanks RTRSR and all who are working and/or sharing information here while we try to get something to replace and/or reinstate Visine LR. Thanks for your suggestion and efforts.
I tried the Afrin and water, instead of Afrin I used equate walmarts brand. I still can't believe it works great, no more red eyes. Walmarts brand was only $1.99. So long Visine LR. I looked all weekend at all the stores and no success so I tried looking at Visine prouducts on line, Wow and I found the answer. Equate has the same amount of Oxymetazoine as Afrin.
which Equate eyedrop do you use because I looked at my Walmart and none of those had Oxymetazoine listed.
