Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 29)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
South Africa makes the eye drops but so far I have not been able to get anyone to ship to the US. I have been using Visine LR for many years and Occu-clear before it was discontinued. It is the only thing that works for me. I have reached out to a supplier in South Africa (M-KEM Medicine City) but haven't heard back yet. I told them there is large market for this product in the US. I'm not sure how US trade works with SA but it's worth the effort to try to purchase from a company that we at least know makes it. I'll post any new updates.
wow! didn't know there were so many people with the same chronic dry eye problem and who also used Ocuclear and now Visine LR. I know I'm probably addicted to Visine LR but like the rest of you, it is the only thing that works for the redness. (used for 15 yrs!) I just tried the B & L maximum redness and it's working well but i'm afraid of the overuse warning making the redness worse. Anyone experience this?
Earlier in this thread, Afrin was being discussed as an alternative to Visine L.R. It does seem logical since every listed ingredient in Afrin seems to match several of the ingredients in VLR (and other brands of eye drops as well). But I've talked to 3 pharmacists about this and each strongly recommended against using Afrin in the eye (even if diluted to .025%). Reason: the Afrin mixture is not "isotonic" to the eye, even if the ingredients are similar. Having said that, if anyone has decided to use diluted Afrin as an eye drop anyway, I'd be interested in hearing the results.
I found a pharmacy called All Day Pill that appears to stock Zoamet (from India). Site looks legit but who knows. Maybe some intrepid soul will give this a try and report back to us, lol.
This is so frustrating I have tried everything even stuff from the health food stores. Nothing is working! I'm miserable: (
I also talked to my pharmacist about using Diluted Afrin in my eyes for the Oxymetazoline. He said it wasn't a very good idea because it's not "buffered" for the eye (whatever that means). He also said that eyedrops could be used in the ear or nose but it doesn't work the other way around.
not buffered means the PH balance isn't correct for your eye can cause burning and or damage.
Hello everyone! Read my post below regarding Opcon A. It is the perfect alternative for Visine LR. It will keep the redness out promise. We can all use it until Visine LR restocks again I the shelves lol.
Do you use it everyday? I've used it in the past but too much use makes the redness worse. Works great for allergy eyes but my experience with it on a daily basis made the redness worse.
Hmmm, interesting! I use it twice a day not more and my eyes are not red, exactly like Visine LR's effect.
When I 1st started using the OPCON my eyes turned really red after the 2nd use too I just kept on and finally after a month that stopped now its almost as good as Visine LR
The South African product is known as Allergex produced by Adcock Ingram Healthcare in SA. It appears to have the same ingredients as Visine LR. I have contacted CVS because they do carry other products manufactured in SA so I thought they might have an established distribution network already set up to bring in SA products. They have answered my e-mail, gave it a case number and advised that my request has been forwarded to their production people. Might be helpful if we can get as many people to contact CVS customer service as possible to show the interest in this product.
Rtrsr,
Great idea! I have contacted CVS customer service on your advice as well basically asking them about Allergex. I will let you know if I hear anything from them. Please keep us posted if you get a response also.
Where are you currently at?
Thank you for your efforts,
Christina
I have one bottle of LR that I am using sparingly supplementing with the B & L maximum redness. I have also e-mailed Adcock Ingram directly to see if they would communicate with CVS or find another avenue if they have an interest in selling their product in the US They too have replied and assigned a case number to my request. Will check back when or if I hear from either one of them again.
I just heard back from CVS. They said they will pass my suggestion on to the Product Selection Team for future consideration. I have asked them not only for the Allergex eyedrops but also to manufacture and/or sell any other eyedrops with oxymetazoline.
Thanks for doing this.. Who can I write too and help out? No one understands what life is like with red eyes....and LR is the only thing that works for me. I purchased a B & L max redness bottle but have not tried it yet....
Disappointed about Visine LR being discontinued but tried OPCON-A (Bauch and Lomb) had no redness and my eyes feel great…Noticed others have tried this too which also worked for them. Hope this helps others too.
Visine LR is a vasoconstrictor that makes red eyes whiter. Opcon A is an antihistamine, its use is for for ocular allergies. Visine LR will be missed, Opcon isnt a red eye reducer.
Rick,
Thank you. You are exactly correct. Opcon A might work for some but since I don't suffer from ocular allergies, it did not work for me. I am still trying to contact any company that is willing to listen to me and urge them to make an eyedrop with oxymetazoline. I for one need an ocular vasoconstrictor.
There is a rip off artist on eBay called "best deal ever 389". He has a product called Cendo Asthenof Oxymetazoline HCL 0.25% + Vit A - Similar Visine LR Long Lasting that he is offering for around $35. I tried working with him to get Visine LR but he balked. Now he thinks he can fleece US citizens with this other eyedrop product. Buyer beware, he is one slick person.
